Are you kidding?
Couldn't see a thread on this...

BMW's latest race car hits the track, the Z4 GT3 powered by a 4.4 liter V8 taken from the BMW M3. This highly customized Z4 has widebody hit, large rear wing along with dozens of other race only enhancements. The front and rear wings, bonnet, roof, fenders and many other components are made of carbon fibre reinforced plastics.

Engine management systems use the modern ECU408 while the Power400 electronic control unit is responsible for controlling all the actuators. The goal of the latest modifications was primarily to improve aerodynamic efficiency in order to ensure the car's competitiveness in the GT3 classes.

Edit: Now why's it done that with the thread title...?

Forgot to mention the price, 450 grand. I can definetely see bits of batmobile in it, I like it.

Silly question but, how much does a GT3 cup car retails for? Even for a fire breathing racing car, 450 grand seems quite excessive.

Isn't the Porsche GT3 like only 150k.

I heard the Mustang FR500 GT3 runs for about 250000 euros, if the 450 grand is in US dollars, it's actually a deal.

If it's in Euro, it is too expensive, but it looks amazing.

A 2009 secondhand 911 RSR GT3 would cost you 320,000 Euros.

450,000 doesn't sound unreasonable for a brand new GT3 spec racer. They're all going to be bought by professional teams with sponsor money behind them so the price isn't going to be an issue.

Tell you what.

We'll club together to buy one, strip the body off the chassis and pop the Lotus Cortina body on top.

I won't tell if you don't.

One question, is this the road-going version of the Z4 GT3, like the Nismo LM Road Going from GT?

It's actually a pretty competitive price. The Z4 GT3 costs 300k in Euros, without taxes. About the same as the Audi R8 LMS.
The GT3 cup car costs only half of that, 150k without taxes. Only that one isn't competitive. If you want a more competitive 911 GT3 racer, you'll need a 911 GT3 R that costs 280k without taxes. Sets the price of 450 grand in a different perspective.

Most expensive GT3 car I know of is the SLS AMG GT3. I believe that car costs 330k without taxes. Despite the high prize, it's the most common GT3 car in the German Nordschleife endurace championship (VLN) with 6 cars in the first race.

Amount of Z4 GT3 entries? None...

No it's the GT3 spec race car.

This thread should have really been posted in the Motorsports section. Danny.

You're right, moved it. Seems a trend though that all race car threads start their life in the Auto news section and then get moved...

Okay, I get it. So this is the new Z4 GT3 for the GT3 races. Thanks mate.

I think it's the prettiest of the GT3 cars (maybe 2nd behind the Ford GT), and it looks like it has performance pedigree, so I'm confused to see why nobody has entered it in the recent races...

What recent races? GT3 European Championship hasn't started yet this year and last year Team Need For Speed Schubert Motorsports ran the car, I imagine they'll be running this new spec one this year.

Schubert NFS already won the 2011 Dubai 24 hour race in the Z4 GT3 (probably last years spec I guess)...

Yeah it was the 2010 spec, just with a updated livery. First time we'll see the new GT3 Z4 is in a few weeks at the Algarve GT3 European Championship race. 👍
