Bram Turismo's Toyota GT86

So today I finally noticed both bulbs have now died, so there's no license plate lighting!

I better get that fixed ASAP before I get pulled over. Ordered some OSRAM LED T10 W5W Cool White 6000k lights. Will post the results!

Look forward to it. Mine light up the road something silly but I don't have the exact same LEDs and it's a different car.

Aye, I hope they aren't too bright.

I found a really nice set from Diode Dynamics that are adjustable. However, they were only $10 a set, with $25 shipping costs to Belgium. No thanks

My car points the light directly to the road as my plate is on bumper. Yours has the bumper in the way to stop that. They are the same LEDs I used in my gauges so it's surprising that they are as bright as what I am getting. Either way, 6000k is a nice temperature to have for a modern car.

Received my LED lights today. A quick 5 minute install, very happy with the result!

Stormtrooper approved! 👍

In the second to last image you can see the difference between the stock halogen light, and the new ones. I probably should've bought an LED replacement for the dome light while I was at it...

Looks great. Not too bright at all. I like how these ones have a bulb shape to them rather than LEDs dotted all over a circuit board.

Really like these. Saw one with a ridiculous wing the other day, glad you haven't got the same one! It looked like something from a Group B rally car...

Cheers mate!

Sadly these seem to be popular tuner cars. Most of them are pretty nicely put together, but some of them take it way too far.

And yes, the aero pack looks absolutely ridiculous!

Excuse the double-post, long post incoming!

2 weeks ago I went to the Ardennes with my cousin, and a friend. The region was still under a snow blanket, and the roads were covered with salt and gravel. I got stuck in a parking lot that was basically a muddy field with a thick layer of melting snow over it. Needless to say my tyres just drowned in all that stuff. Luckily it needed just a push to get going. Once I got it going, I got it out.

I've never seen my car being such a mess, both on the out- and inside. The salt and dirt turned into some kind of a crust over the week over the paint. I wished I had a foam gun. That may be a wise investment for the future.

Anyway, first up some images of what I was dealing with.

It doesn't look all that bad in the photos, but the area directly behind the front wheels were worst! Also, the rear rims were in terrible shape.

Even though they predicted rain for this week, I just wanted to get all of that salt off my car! Sometimes you don't realize just how much junk and gunk there is on your car until you've cleaned it!

Time to bring forth the tools!

This is the magic that wheel contaminators do:

When it turns pink, you know it's working. When it turns green, though, you know you've been in places you shouldn't have been...

After that a rinse with the pressure washer, and most of the dirt is gone. Now therapy starts!

I swear to god, AMMO Hydrate is a gift from the Car Cleaning Angels!

After that I did the entire interior. Cleaning the back of a GT86 is like a yoga session...

The car desperately needs a wax, but I was pretty much out of time. Depending on the weather, I might do that sooner than later. It could use a go with a clay bar. There are some small chips here and there that I'd have to agitate too much with the wash mitt without scratching it in...

So today the sun finally came out after two weeks of rain on and off.
I therefore decided to go and buy some new toys to play with:

32565188363_4b01053985_c.jpg

The quick wax will serve as a replacement for Ammo HYDRATE. I'm still not sure what Hydrate really is, but the quick wax has an almost similar attitude. Very pleased, though. It really is ridiculous how easy it is to dry your car by spraying some quick wax on a damp microfiber towel. Really pleased with the effect it had.

My AMMO tyre gel ran out, so I got some from Meguiar's. I love the new tyre gel much better than AMMO MUD I'm afraid to admit. I get the impression I'm using less gel now, and it shines more than AMMO Mud. I'm yet to see how long it'll last.

My engine bay needs cleaning, so I bought an AP cleaner, as well as a degreaser. I'm planning to mix both products, and add water so I'm using not too much product, but keeping it easy to work with. First I need to study how to do it properly, so that I don't damage anything by being a knob.

Anyway, today I spent 6 hours cleaning my car. Added that much needed layer of wax as well. Pictures don't do it justice, it really looks like it's still wet!

She's looking good boys! 👍

She's looking extremely good. So clean and very shiny.
I find a similar thing with cameras. Sometimes they make the car look better and other times they can't show something you can see like what you are describing about the wet look on the paint.

Good selection of cleaning and detailing products. Sounds like they do well.

I use the same Quik Wax and tyre gell. Both great products. The tyre stuff smells so good right?

Aye, I find it difficult to showcase the state of the paintwork. It's exactly as you describe.

I took it for a little ride to check my tyre pressure during sunset. I couldn't help but inspect the reflections from all the lights and have a little inner crisis :dopey:

Also, I get the impression that any car that's been properly taken care of gets a second glance.

The quick wax smells delicious! However, the Chemical Guys wheel cleaner smells like chewing gum. I have even had my sister ask why it smells like candy.

Just dropping this here very quickly:

Hello everyone,

I've never been to a motorsport event. But seeing the tickets to the 6hr FIA WEC race at Spa only cost 30 euros for all three days, and the track is only an hour's drive for me, I would like to see if any GTP'ers are going?

As much as I'd like to experience the race, track, and atmosphere, I'd hate to not be in good company to share the experience with.

If need be, I could meet up somewhere, or even pick someone up. Although, since I'm driving a GT86, there's a limit to how many we could fit in the car.

Anyway, if anyone is planning to go, give a shout in this thread!

Thanks!

Spring is here, and with that also comes the switch from winter tyres to summer tyres. I therefore decided to also clean the engine bay, as well as the wheel arches.

Firstly I prepared the summer wheels with the usual stuff:

Wheels ready, time for the engine!
I sprayed it thoroughly with 20/20/60 ratio of AP cleaner/degreaser/water. I worked that in with a soft brush. Then I rinsed it off, dried the engine, applied a thin coat of WD40 over it, only to finish it off with a dressing application. The dressing isn't really of any use, but it does make the engine pop a bit more.

The result isn't 100% as I lack some dedicated brushes to get to all areas of the engine. But it has somewhat transformed!

Last task for today was to clean the wheels arches using the same mix of productes as used for the engine. After that was rinsed off, I went over it with my wheel cleaner, and then simply rinse that off, dry it, and apply a dressing to the plastic housing:

Hey guys! Quickly sharing some images of detailing the engine of my sister's 3-year old Mazda 3. This car is from Norway, so it's seen a lot of roadsalt, grime, and sand. It's gone 100,000km without any cleaning. Thought I'd make it look like a new engine again!

She was super happy with the result. And so was I. Imagine the state of the engine after another 100,000km without a clean!

Tomorrow I'm going to do the exterior. If I have time left, the interior! 👍

Looking good!!! I know they are stock headlights but they looks so cool, very jealous. MR2s got stock off the shelf square housings that pretty much every 80s and 90s Toyota had.

What's the reason for the red plate on the front and black on the rear? I don't know my Euro plates well.

Cheers mate! No need to be jealous, I've always dreamt of having an MR2. And yours looks pretty darn good at that! 👍

I do love these headlights. There are some bits and bobs that make it look a bit outdated, like the yellow foglights, interior lights and reverse light. But those are pretty easy to change for something more fresh like I did with the rear license plate lighting.

Both plates are red, but I guess it's the daylight that makes the rear plate seem black. The rear plate is steel, the front plate is just a plastic plate. Which is nice, because it is super easy to keep clean!

Good job on the detailing. Have you got experience with a dual action polish machine?

Love the GT86. I have sat in one, the driving position is excellent.

None. I'd like to polish it myself one day, but it's no priority. There are no deep scratches, so other than for it looking like a show-car, there's no reason for me to polish it just yet. As long as I can keep the paintwork clean and healthy, I'm satisfied. 👍

So this month I've reached 30,000km in the GT86 since I've owned it. I took it to the dealership for its planned 4th service, which was a "big service". I paid 380 euros for an entire service of the car. The braking pads were not replaced since I replaced them during the previous service, which was 15,000km ago. According to the mechanic there was no need to replace them again, but recommended to replace after another 15,000km from now. All filters were changed, as well as the engine oil and the differential oil.

There was some rust build-up in the braking drum in the rear of the car that contains the handbrake. That was cleaned up so that my left rear wheel didn't make the noise it used to make which was basically the rust build-up hitting the inside of the drum.

Other than that, the car has been an absolute treat to drive. I've had 0 mechanical issues with the car so far. It feels absolutely bulletproof, and it still drives brilliantly. Even more so after its service. I've also had my first experience with the car where it was driven hard in a group with 4 GT86's. When the tyres are warm, the car drives just so darn good. There is some understeer, and near the limit I don't really feel what the front tyres want to do. So this has me thinking about the kind of tyres I would like to upgrade to in the future.

Anyway, I gave the car a treat after its service and gave the engine bay a good detail:

37137142582_f68e9fc903_z.jpg

Now comes the question about the car itself, and whether I should modify it. More to the point: Should I get a new set of shoes for it?
I'd like a slightly sportier tyre that offers more front grip. I don't really mind losing some playfulness in the rear. I was thinking of stayong on a 17" size, but perhaps go from a 215 tyre to a 225 width. I even have some friends who run 235 on this car, or 225 front, 245 rear. 245 rear does look great on this car.

I will be getting a company car from my new employer within a month or two, so I will need to think about having this car as a weekend toy and possibly for trackdays. Either way the Michelin Primacy needs to go once they are worn out. Someone can even get me in touch with someone that can get me semi slicks for half the price of the shop prices, but I would need to fit them myself.

Anyway, feel free to share what you guys would think look good on this car. Currently I'm looking at 17" wheels as I don't really see why I would increase the diameter, and sacrifice performance. Unless I want a garage queen. Japan Racing makes wheels that are fair in price, and look great. So far I've been looking at the Japan Racing JR-3 and JR-10 wheels.

Let me know what you think about these, I adore the CCW-like look of the JR-10s!

@SVX As much as I love RPF1s, they are expensive. They are nearly double the price for an entire set compared to JR wheels...

Will BBS SRs come in budget?

Subaru-BRZ-BBS-SR-18.jpg

I’d go with a big name brand like BBS, Enkei, OZ or Volk over Japan Racing. They might cost more to buy now but you’d be able to sell them on much easier if you change cars.
