One of the most fastest-growing sports in America is lacrosse. This thread is one I want to open in regards to college lacrosse. Lacrosse games can be very fun to watch. On the collegiate level, you are looking at many teams who are usually the top dogs in the sport. NCAA Division 1 features quality men's teams such as Johns Hopkins, Navy, North Carolina, Duke, Georgetown, Syracuse, Denver, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and even newcomers like Florida. The only women's lacrosse power I know of is Northwestern. College Lacrosse is the most famous Spring sport besides college baseball and college softball. Lacrosse itself is older than basketball, football, and yes- even baseball. College football has the Heisman; college lacrosse has the Tewaaraton Trophy. You are in for a treat if you have never seen lacrosse, let alone college lacrosse.

If you're a fan of college lacrosse, this is your thread. The Division 1 National Championship on the men's side will be at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA on the weekend of May 25-27.

Let's chat college lacrosse!

You jumped the gun by a couple months John .

College lacrosse for 2013 is underway! Right now on ESPNU, it's the Siena Saints at the #5 Johns Hopkins Blue Jays. Time to get a new season underway! Currently 3-1, JHU with 1:39 left in the first quarter in rainy Baltimore.

Not a huge fan of field lacrosse, I watch my University's team play a little bit, but I'm more of a box lacrosse guy. If you guys ever can get to an NLL game, I highly recommend it. Box lacrosse is intense.

If you play box, you have a death wish .

Another season for my Duke Blue Devils, and another chance to build on our recent tournament appearances.

Our high school team is now in its second year, and we are eligible for the state tournament if we win our conference. Unfortunately, we lost our all-state goalkeeper and all of our defenders except myself and another guy. So our rising underclassmen will have to score at a high rate for us to succeed.

I look for Duke to be a consistent threat this season. They'll be up against the likes of Johns Hopkins, Georgetown, Maryland, Syracuse, Loyola College, and oh yeah- North Carolina. Duke will be just fine as long as they handle their business.

I suppose I will continue the discussion of our school team here. Not sure how we will fare. We received a good number of skilled players from local travel leagues, but a brand new goalkeeper may be iffy. He has been better than expected so far.

We've only had two legit practices and have a game next Friday. We will see if our D1 level midfielder will be able to keep the team on his back all season.

Duke is in the ultra-talented ACC. I'm not saying Duke lacrosse is sorry or anything, but they're taking on some tough opposition to try to be and remain one of the top teams in NCAA D1 lacrosse. Haven't followed too much of this season to see how things are going so far.

Duke never has a problem in conference. For the most part. The only score I've seen was a 21-4 win our way.

Heading into this weekend, here are the Inside Lacrosse rankings in the NCAA D1 Men's side (rankings as of February 25, 2013 from the NCAA's website):

01 - Maryland
02 - Notre Dame
03 - Johns Hopkins
04 - Loyola College
05 - Cornell
06 - Virginia
07 - Massachusetts
08 - Pennsylvania State (or Penn State, of course)
09 - Colgate
10 - Denver
11 - North Carolina
12 - Princeton
13 - Ohio State
14 - Fairfield
15 - Pennsylvania
16 - Lehigh and Syracuse (tied for 16th)
18 - Drexel
19 - Duke
20 - Albany

Best wishes to all teams trying to make the tournament. Right now, it's #12 Princeton at #3 Johns Hopkins on ESPNU.

Thanks for the tip. Didn't think there was a game until tomorrow.

And so it begins. Final preparations are over, and we ride 5 hours down the road to play one of the best teams in the state tomorrow. We're supposed to be their warm up game for the big name squads later to come, but we hope we can follow our surprising winning record from last year with a W tomorrow. It looks as if I will start as well, pretty nervous since they are an offensive juggernaut (my man will be playing on scholarship at Dartmouth) and I play defense. Wish us luck!

It actually didn't go that bad. We were only down 5-3 at halftime and had momentum, but we tired out and lost hold of the game in the second half. I held the Dartmouth guy to one goal and laid him out once, and we looked pretty good for a young team. Unfortunately the 14-4 final score doesn't reflect that .

We lost our best player and both other starting defensemen than myself. This Friday night may be much worse than 14-4, hopefully our subs can step up.

Duke-Carolina is on now as well, wasn't expecting us to play well but they're hanging tough.

Jeez.. That really hits close since all of our bus rides are at night and we aren't exactly quiet to aid the driver's focus..

Condolences to all involved.

So far, we have lost 14-4, 16-8, and 18-3. The injury to our star player is really beginning to show, as well as our inexperienced keeper.

On the upside, we play a team equally as awful as we are (supposedly) on Friday night and my booking agent chose me to referee 6 games at $40 a pop on Saturday morning :D.

Yale at Princeton on right now on ESPNU. The score is 9-7 in favor of the Princeton Tigers. Less than 13 minutes left in the 4th Quarter.

DOWN GOES MARYLAND! The only unbeaten team this season finally got their first loss of the season as #14 North Carolina downed #1 Maryland 10-8 at Maryland. UNC cashed in five scores in just the first quarter alone. Maryland could only manage two in the first quarter. Maryland put on three more goals in both the third and fourth quarters, but it was the Tar Heels who reigned supreme on this day.

The Konica Minolta Face-Off Classic is going on right now. Currently playing are Colgate and Navy. The Colgate Raiders lead 7-2 with 9 minutes left in the third quarter.

It's #20 Brown at #7(?) North Carolina on ESPNU. UNC leads 5-4 with about 7:30 left in the 2nd Quarter.

DOWN GOES NOTRE DAME!

#1 Notre Dame was upset at home by St. John's. Maryland may likely jump to #1 with a win at Virginia. Maryland ended up winning 9-7 earlier today. Don't let the score fool you, though. Maryland was leading about 9-4 for most of the fourth quarter until Virginia finally woke up cashing in goals. The Cavaliers, unfortunately, were too little too late to try to suppress the Terrapins on this day.

I found out earlier today that North Carolina beat Johns Hopkins in Overtime at UNC. Not sure what the score was, but it was pretty close.

#8 Duke is hosting Virginia right now. UVA just scored, but Duke leads 8-7. It is about 7:35 left in the 2nd Quarter.

Go Blue Devils.

I have two games to officiate tomorrow, I hope the kids are less belligerent than last time.

And we conclude our season this week.

As of now, we have not won a single game, with the closest defeat being 16-8. A very common score has been 17-3 for some reason, with 20 goals posted against us more than once. Tomorrow we play our next to last game, which we have quite low hopes for. However, we feel we may have a slight sliver of hope on Friday.

Overrated? Unranked Virginia blew out #2 Maryland just now in the ACC Semifinal. It was either 13-6 or 13-7 UVA beat Maryland by.

Funny. Before our final game we were saying how UVA had no shot against Maryland.

We finished winless, although we were tied at halftime in our final game tonight (we went on to lose by 10).

I just heard something just now. The NCAA Men's Lacrosse tournament field was announced some time ago, and for the first time in over 42 years... Johns Hopkins did NOT make the field! Can you believe that?

You'll have to look on the NCAA's website for the full field. But man. Johns Hopkins is usually as much of a lock in postseason lacrosse every season like Duke and/or North Carolina in basketball.

Quite surprising. If you'd have asked I'd have said Duke had a better chance of getting snubbed than JHU.

Let's get it on! The NCAA Division 1 Men's Lacrosse Tournament is underway! Lehigh at North Carolina is under way. Tied at 1 right now with 8 minutes left in the first quarter.

[UPDATE] Once North Carolina's offense heated up, the Tar Heels were too much. No. 5 UNC won 17-6. They will get the winner of Albany/Denver in the next round at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis next Sunday.

Cool, the quarters aren't usually played at a neutral venue. Progress.

Go Denver, they definitely have a better shot to beat UNC.

Cornell at Maryland is among one of many matches today. Duke will take on the defending champs- Loyola College.

The defending champs go down in flames. Duke needed double overtime to put away the Greyhounds of Loyola College 12-11. Up next for Duke... Notre Dame.
