Gave Race B a go tonight in the rexy. Beat my love bug qualifying time which put me P10/15 on a grid of DR/C with the exception of myself and one other D. I'm only up to page 10 of the "woe is me" thread someone quoted me on, but from my perspective, I consider myself to be a fastish DR/D, so having all those DR/Cs I think is a pretty fair grid.

It was mayhem. T1 was a bit of a disaster for me. I got the inside of the first part of the T1 chicane, but that left me vulnerable on the outside of a gridlocked pack. I was hit on the inside and got the orange SR and a 2s penalty. I've come to the conclusion that for lower DR races they should just ghost everyone for T1 on any track :P.

The race progressed, and I got bumped about a few times. I was running too close to the guy in front and he braked and I didn't pull up in time. I tapped him, he squirmed a bit and regained control. I kept behind him till he got up to speed and stable. I did apologise later. In the end I crossed P8 but dropped to P10 due to a 2s penalty.

SR dropped to 95 and DR dropped by 250. Another day above DR 1

One of the main things I practice on most tracks before entering a race is turn 1 as many drivers gets confused with the breaking point. They practice on time trial or free practice [FIA], but forget that come race time corner 1 on the first lap on a rolling start is always taken at a lower speed than the following laps, hence the breaking point is not what they've practiced. So they brake too early, then accelerate and brake again, a sure recipe for disaster. This helped me in many races to escape the corner 1 mayhem.

Haha... what was he thinking trying to pass while heading into the chicane? You can tell he thought he was just going way faster than the other guy, not, "We all need to brake for the oncoming chicane."

That's a shocker. 5-6 car lengths back (which is never ever in a million years even close to sniffing an overtake opportunity) and you just beelined to the inside line.

Very, very poor judgement on your part. If you understood racing of any kind (not banger racing or demo derby) you would know that a move like that was never on. You were never going to hold the inside, and the other car was already turning into the corner, meaning you shouldn't have been their.

But racing incidents happen. Just learn from the experience (please lol).

Sorry, just read your reply to somebody else reference your "overtake". Didn't mean to rant.

Try and get a bit closer before trying this again.
 
My GR.1 testing is complete. All 20 GR.1 cars driven at least 3 times on Sarthe with stock settings while adhering to the old track limits, no cutting, except sometimes using the runoff at Maison Blanche that was allowed already. Always a tire change and driving AT with TCS 2.

Audi R18 '16 is the meta for a reason, often battling the 919, sometimes getting beat by the 908 HDi due to its excellent fuel economy. I'll be driving the R92CP tonight, to see if I can sharpen my time in that. I retested the Audi R18 as it was the second car I drove on Monday in very messy rooms. Since I did much better now I wonder how far I can still push the R92CP.

I did a no stop in the SRT Tomahawk last night in daily C. I used a tune on transmission to help keep the shifts short the whole race, around lap 2 i had to switch to map 2. halfway through lap 4 i switched down to map 3.

Overall i think it's a little slower and way more stressful lol. Would not recommend.

On the plus side the Tomahawk is a BEAST through the porsche curves.
 
Wow first red S post race in a long time, one minor contact that I’d argue was more the other guy than me during T1 chaos, got a 2 second penalty and lost 8 SR! PD you are cruel.

My GR.1 testing is complete. All 20 GR.1 cars driven at least 3 times on Sarthe with stock settings while adhering to the old track limits, no cutting, except sometimes using the runoff at Maison Blanche that was allowed already. Always a tire change and driving AT with TCS 2.

Wow. Yesterday was probably the best single day of racing I’ve had since starting this game about 9 months ago. I ran something like 17 races at La Sarthe, won 12 of them, podium 4 times and one 5th place which I still gained like 10 points for. Not a single SR or DR loss all day. The rooms weren’t the strongest, since I had 10 poles, but there were always 4-6 other A/S or S/S drivers if not more...not to mention the B/S guys that are capable of a killer pace, there are many. Several A+ drivers made appearances too, but not a lot. I even had the honor of beating a couple guys I consider to be among the fastest in the Americas region. Wut?

I actually managed to make it to A+ and I never really thought I would. At least what this tells me is that I perform on an A+ level on this track/car combo. That’s not the case for most tracks so I know my rating will fluctuate, but this at least reassures me that I’m getting there. I try not to worry about DR too much but it still feels good as a personal accomplishment kind of thing just to know that I’m capable.

@rex1825 probably taught me yesterday’s most valuable lesson when racing with the R18. Bro, you were one of only like 3 people to beat me yesterday and you did it with great strategy. That pug is so fast on the straight and you saved fuel like a champ. After that race I didn’t take tires the rest of the night and won almost every race. I drive AT and wasn’t conserving at all, so I found that if I can get enough of a jump to keep my slipstream away from the pack, I can usually still keep a fast enough pace to the finish line in P1 with a couple seconds to spare even on spent tires. I chanced it and took tires in that race with you, which is the only reason I pulled that lap time, but the battle was too tight and I didn’t expect you to have so much fuel left! You’re the man :bowdown:

@Sven Jurgens was in nearly half of my races yesterday it seemed and he was consistently gaining 10 or more positions from all the way in the back and made it to top 5 in at least a few. Well done sir. Also saw @vvise in one or two and he was keeping a great pace as well up towards the front pack.

Unfortunately in one of my early races I dropped SR under 90. Went down to a lower tier lobby and while leading by 6-7 seconds I was talking with minecraftian and totally forgot to pit lap 3. Finished last and lost 4k DR because the matchmaking expected me to win the race (got pole and fastest lap though lol).
 
Wow. Yesterday was probably the best single day of racing I’ve had since starting this game about 9 months ago. I ran something like 17 races at La Sarthe, won 12 of them, podium 4 times and one 5th place which I still gained like 10 points for. Not a single SR or DR loss all day. The rooms weren’t the strongest, since I had 10 poles, but there were always 4-6 other A/S or S/S drivers if not more...not to mention the B/S guys that are capable of a killer pace, there are many. Several A+ drivers made appearances too, but not a lot. I even had the honor of beating a couple guys I consider to be among the fastest in the Americas region. Wut?

I actually managed to make it to A+ and I never really thought I would. At least what this tells me is that I perform on an A+ level on this track/car combo. That’s not the case for most tracks so I know my rating will fluctuate, but this at least reassures me that I’m getting there. I try not to worry about DR too much but it still feels good as a personal accomplishment kind of thing just to know that I’m capable.

@rex1825 probably taught me yesterday’s most valuable lesson when racing with the R18. Bro, you were one of only like 3 people to beat me yesterday and you did it with great strategy. That pug is so fast on the straight and you saved fuel like a champ. After that race I didn’t take tires the rest of the night and won almost every race. I drive AT and wasn’t conserving at all, so I found that if I can get enough of a jump to keep my slipstream away from the pack, I can usually still keep a fast enough pace to the finish line in P1 with a couple seconds to spare even on spent tires. I chanced it and took tires in that race with you, which is the only reason I pulled that lap time, but the battle was too tight and I didn’t expect you to have so much fuel left! You’re the man :bowdown:

@Sven Jurgens was in nearly half of my races yesterday it seemed and he was consistently gaining 10 or more positions from all the way in the back and made it to top 5 in at least a few. Well done sir. Also saw @vvise in one or two and he was keeping a great pace as well up towards the front pack.

Perhaps I'll see you Sunday on Sarthe. I probably won't qualify until then or perhaps I'll qualify in the R92CP first. Really looking forward to squeeze the best out of that one. I hope I don't get rammed too often :)

I guess I should copy the tune for the R18 next and not change tires, see how much that changes my race and lap times.
Is there a tune floating around for the 908 HDi and TS050? Those are fast as well and much better on fuel.

Finally my first win on La Sarthe! Plus, for the first time ever in GT, I m an A/S driver!

Used Minkhil's R18 tune. Started 7th, overtook 6th on the first corner, and from there on I made only 1! more overtake on track. The front 5 were constantly battling, and took each other out one by one.
Going 2 or 3 wide into Mulsanne or Arnage cant possibly go right for anyone involved. I dont get why people dont pull out of these situations. I was nowhere near the fastest driver in the race, but since this group of 3 were constantly battling and putting each other off track, I won comfortably, despite all of them having 2-4 second faster qualifying time than me.
 
I had some fun back of the pack racing on Tsukuba yesterday. I know a lot of people hate that course but the crowded narrow track brings some fun challenges to it. I moved up from 11th to 7th and then was immediately held back and separated from the back by a weave blocking moron. He kept threatening an impact and swerving randomly from turn 2 to turn 9 as the pack behind me became thicker and thicker.

Finally on turn 9, I baited him to weave block to the outside right before the turn in point, which threw his car out of balance making him late to block my apex entry. Once I got on the inside I was worried he would ram me off of the track so I eased off of the throttle and lined up my front bumper with his rear quarter panel. He tapped me and backed off after realizing that he would pit himself if he tried to ram me. From there it was like I had Tuberculosis as he pulled wide against the rumble strip to avoid me.

From then on I took 6th and proceeded to make my car as wide as John Goodman, running defensive lines from the middle of the track and braking to the apex. He was clearly angry and he kept over revving his exit, slipping into small oversteer corrections making his pass attempt futile.

He totally could have passed me after every hairpin if he would have taken a wider late apex line but he was losing his mind constantly trying to dive bomb me. When he would try to dive bomb I could hear him behind me and I would actually drag out my braking line until I could hear his revs drop which meant that he was in the wrong gear to work a pass, and then I would just take off and reastablish distance. I wasn't too worried about getting rammed as it would just propel me through my exit line anyways.

Despite all that nuttiness I secured the clean race bonus. Fun times.

OH! Does anyone have a good LSD setting for that Impreza to make the car more competitive? I'd rather work the middle of the pack instead of playing bump butt with the DR D guys.

Sounds like an awesome party, and a really fast one, too. I had every one of those guys creeping up on my rear view several times. I think if Minecraftian hadn’t been pushed off track by another guy in our race, him and I would have had a great battle as our pace was pretty similar. Looking forward to seeing you on the tracks again.
 
Have had to give up my strategy of non-stopping at La Sarthe (managed it in the TS050 and the 908) - the positive effect on my DR has been outweighed by the negative impact on my SR! I have been rammed in the rear so many times today whilst fuel saving, that my SR has fallen from S to A.

Whilst I received no penalties during any race, my SR was red at the end of each - presumably on the assumption by the system that I was brake-checking other cars.

if anyone has some feedback on this i'd be very happy to hear it. going to try driving this car tonight. i'm comfortable tuning a gearbox but don't really know what i'm doing with suspension.
Did this one, very good overall, expect to do some mean overtakes on straights where it seems to excel.
The only thing adjusted myself was top speed to fit it to this track.

LOL Tsukuba is so funny with penalties, it completely ignores demolition derby, but go outside even a bit on those elbow turns and it slaps you with 1.5s penalty.. After getting t-boned left and right without anyone getting penalties, I get 5s on 3 turns :lol:

Just a quick question as I'm working and cant check. Can you simulate fuel usage in time trials? As i need to work on it but arent keen to do it in the race?

My GR.1 testing is complete. All 20 GR.1 cars driven at least 3 times on Sarthe with stock settings while adhering to the old track limits, no cutting, except sometimes using the runoff at Maison Blanche that was allowed already. Always a tire change and driving AT with TCS 2.

Audi R18 '16 is the meta for a reason, often battling the 919, sometimes getting beat by the 908 HDi due to its excellent fuel economy. I'll be driving the R92CP tonight, to see if I can sharpen my time in that. I retested the Audi R18 as it was the second car I drove on Monday in very messy rooms. Since I did much better now I wonder how far I can still push the R92CP.

Here's a clip of starting in the backfield with some lovely penalties.


Did you try a non-stopper race with the 908? I kept doing that over and over today, which always made me end up in Top 5 if nothing happened. (Meaning, If I don't spin, get bumped etc.)
I always start around 16th or 18th position. My best result so far was starting 14th and ending 2nd.

However, I've seen somebody doing this with fuel mapping 1.
Makes me wonder how he does it, because even with short-shifting and trail-braking into some corners, I won't make it with fuel mapping 1.
So I keep switching between 1 and 2 to get speed, and while drafting I'm going down to 4 or 5.

If anybody is going for a no-stopper, prepare to let a lot of people overtake you. Your lap times are around 3 - 4 secs slower, but the Pit stop is around 30 seconds. So it's def. worth it.
 
My GR.1 testing is complete. All 20 GR.1 cars driven at least 3 times on Sarthe with stock settings while adhering to the old track limits, no cutting, except sometimes using the runoff at Maison Blanche that was allowed already. Always a tire change and driving AT with TCS 2.

Audi R18 '16 is the meta for a reason, often battling the 919, sometimes getting beat by the 908 HDi due to its excellent fuel economy. I'll be driving the R92CP tonight, to see if I can sharpen my time in that. I retested the Audi R18 as it was the second car I drove on Monday in very messy rooms. Since I did much better now I wonder how far I can still push the R92CP.

Did you try a non-stopper race with the 908? I kept doing that over and over today, which always made me end up in Top 5 if nothing happened. (Meaning, If I don't spin, get bumped etc.)
I always start around 16th or 18th position. My best result so far was starting 14th and ending 2nd.

However, I've seen somebody doing this with fuel mapping 1.
Makes me wonder how he does it, because even with short-shifting and trail-braking into some corners, I won't make it with fuel mapping 1.
So I keep switching between 1 and 2 to get speed, and while drafting I'm going down to 4 or 5.

If anybody is going for a no-stopper, prepare to let a lot of people overtake you. Your lap times are around 3 - 4 secs slower, but the Pit stop is around 30 seconds. So it's def. worth it.

Try my tranny setup, and drop shifts to 5k... Prolong 6th gear from 283 to 304 (455 to 490)
 
20 pt SR loss because i was hit twice by an already out-of-control car as i was trying to avoid it....and back to SR A -_-
 
So I gave La Sarthe another shot today.. Absolute disaster as soon as the fuel notification popped up.

Went from P4 to dead last in 3 turns. I got so enraged I wanted to rage quit for the first time ever.

Who on earth came up with something that will block critical part of my screen when in roof cam. :banghead::banghead:
I seriously salute anyone who manages to get any result with roof cam and fuel notification for 1,5 laps on that track..:bowdown:
