EA now has a 5 year NFL exlusive license. That means the greatest looking and playing football game (ESPN 2K5) will not have a new version. This is the time Sega and sammy dig deep to return the favor by locking up the NBA.

I really liked EA up untill now. They pulled a M$ like move.

EA has FIFA licence too, but that doesn´t keep Konami from kicking EA´s butt with the Winning Eleven series.

This is the lowest move EA could ever make. They were worried about there competition so instead of making there game better they go and by the liscense so they have no competition. And no competition equals no improvements. EA is alos trying to negotiate the same sort of deal with the NBA and MLB. This needs to be stopped, EA is going to be the downfall of the creativity in the Videogames industry.

Sega can still release NFL games, they just need to be creative and come up with their own team and player names.

I would guess that Sega would bring back their college football series and add all the bells and whistles from NFL 2K5 .

Oh yeah the source Gametrailers

Ea had Madden 64 for N64 with no NFL license. NFL and NFLPA are two different things but im not sure EA has both. Remember Ea Has NASCAR.

edit: I just read gamespots info and EA has both.gamespot

The 2K series died with the Dreamcast.

EA acquiring NFL rights is a good thing IMO.
.

Yes it is a good thing that Madden 2006 wont be sold at a lower price and will force gamers to play a 128-bit game with unrealistic graphics unrealistic gameplay.

How can you say that it will be a good thing? How can competition hurt the Madden series? EA is just going to get sloppy with the Madden series now that they know that gamers won't buy any other series. What are NFL fans going to play now if the Madden series isn't satisfactory?

I have always preferred the Madden series over any other football games, but this was just low.

EA has never been sloppy with the Madden series. Madden has been the only choice for gamers for a long time.

Not for me and plently of other gamers, last madden I bought was 2002. The game just didn't do anything for me, so I tried the Sega Sports NFL2k3 the next year and I loved it. I bought NFL2K5 this year and it looks like its gonna be the last football game I get for a while.

Same her I ditched madden after 99. I owned all maddens up to 99. I played and liked madden 2004, I just happen to like ESPN 2k4 more and got 2K5. Also I've always played Eas College Football games.

What if it was the other way around? What if Sega secured the rights to the NFL, would that make you happy?

Is it the right thing to do?

I wouldn't be happy if anyone secured the rights to NFL. Football games are just going to go to **** now that Madden is the only choice for the NFL fan.

Some people don't like Madden, but still like to play football video games with actual NFL players, now thanks to the schmucks at EA, their game is the only choice.

It's safe to say that I'm not going to support EA or the Madden franchise anymore, this is bull****.

Well, those schmucks over at Sega tried to pull on fast one on me. Instead of making a superior football game, they'll just lower the price 50% to increase profit.

I still don't see how this is a bad thing. Madden is the standard. The NFL rights couldn't have gone to a better game.

Even though I don't play football games, I think I have to say this. Monopolies never work. EA will have no competition, and therefore will be allowed to release a cheaply made product since there will be no competition to be worried about.

Licensing issues with EA piss me off anyway. If it wasn't for them, Gran Turismo would most likely have Porsche, Lamborghini, and Ferrari included.

The problem is, they should never have gone to an exclusive developer in the first place. There's absolutely nothing wrong with a bit of competition. EA just has a habit of taking their competition a little too seriously, and use their business muscle rather than development muscle to overcome it.

Makes you wonder what they have in mind to try to ruin the GT franchise, eh? You know damn well they're trying to think of something. GT is their only real "threat" anymore.

I already cast them to an all time low when they bought out and killed the "New" Lamborghini game.

Hopefully, they'll be smart and return to the good 'ol Supercar racing days.
After all...that is what made the franchise so famous. :)

DON'T diss FIFA!!! It whoops! Right now FIFA '05 is jetting it's way to my letterbox.

I was thinking about how stupid the title of this thread was, until I actually read it.

As Jedi2016 noted, EA is so powerful, they do have the muscle to (try to)take out the competition, such as the Gran Turismo, Halo. I purchased an NBA 2K5 over the "Live" this year. 2K5 was $15 on sale! I'm glad I bought an SEGA game over EA now. What EA did with the NFL rights are exactly what is wrong with the attitude of large corporations.

Now that I've leaned of this, I will cancel on the "Goldeneye" that I was going to get. I will not buy another NBA Live games(as long as NBA doesn't give them an exclusive right). Need For Speed? I wouldn't buy them if they were $20!

I hate EA as much as the next guy but maybe not all of this is their fault. There is nothing wrong with going to another company and discuss partnership or take over. It's up to that company to say Yes or No.If they say no,EA can't do a thing. In a few cases some of the company's said Yes,probably because EA offered a lot of money. You can't blame that on EA.The thing that i hate about EA is when they actually take another company over, why don't they just release their finished games under their name instead of destroying them.

Or you could do what we soccer lovers do and start making patches to the Sega games, with the correct names and uniforms. It works like a charm. :)

Yeah, but to be honest most people aren't going to be able to do that because it needs a modded machine and some technical expertise. Also I think that Konami make it easy to hack their games on purpose because of the lack of licencing. Although they have got around EA by purchasing the licencing of the Dutch/Italian/Spanish leagues separately.

And yes, any FIFA game sucks ass in comparison to a WE/PES game. 05 is nothing special, just another stats update with some fancy bits that make no or little difference to the game. And yes I have played it and I wasn't impressed. Thank god they put PES on the X-Box now so everyone can enjoy a decent footie game.

I think it must be as easy as any other game. We have a hacked version of FIFA 2005 for PS2, with Portuguese language taken from the PC version.

I agree. I don't see any problem with EA snatching up the name. Madden has been the best for as long as I can remember. I'm sure just because EA gas exclusive rights they don't think they can start slacking off. They're still going to pump out great solid games.

I'll bet my penis madden 2006 wont look near as good as ESPN 2K5. And yes graphics are important in this case now. As we wont be getting a new version of the best looking football game ever.
