Edumicate me on these DS's

My 16th birthday is coming up, so my mom's already pushing me to pick a present (She's already paying for the build of my Toyota Pickup, so that's the bigger present). I'm almost completley decided on a DS Lite, I have some questions though, as my last mobile console was an original non SP GB Advance (still have it, and my game boy color, and my game boy pocket as well). I know mario kart rocks apparantly, but what about other race games? Burnout Legends any good? I won't even bother with the NFS trash, but I was also looking at Ford Racing 3, I dug the original on PS1. Also, what do they do besides play games? Doesn't really matter as far as what it does in comparison to a PSP, I have an MP3 player already, and have no intrest in watching movies on a screen smaller than my hand. Anyone got any must have accessories?

The DS's forte really isn't racing, but MarioKart is fun. Most of the gaming website giants have it pretty much down pat for mobile games.

Well, like Omnis said, the DS doesn't have a ton of great racing games. With no analog stick, I even find it a bit clunky to play Mario Kart. But, for other games, Animal Crossing is a must-have, and Brain Age is fun too (well, maybe not fun, but it definitely keeps you hooked because of the sudoku puzzles). If you really like the original Super Mario Bros, then New SMB is for you (it's basically the same game, but it's 3D and has a ton of stuff added).

As for accessories, you don't really need anything, except maybe a car charger (don't get the ones for the original DS though, get the DS Lite chargers, since those work properly).

And with the DS, you pretty much play games on it, with some of them with online capability. You can get an ARMAX Media Player for it, so you can play music, videos, photos, homebrew, etc on it, and there's a possible future chance that there will be an internet card released in the US and Europe that'll let you (gasp) browse the internet.

Yeah, I also planed on picking up the mario game from the 64, and I'll give the new super mario bro's a look. Depending on the cost, being able to browse the intardweb might be kinda cool. Thanks for the help guys.

Be sure to get the new starfox game when it comes out.

yeah, I dug starfox on the 64, this is great, I get to play all the cool old games again. If they come out with army men games, I'll be in heaven. I still don't know for sure if I will get one of these or not, kinda got the itch to get a new BMX frame too, just a matter of how much she'll shell out (good frame comes in at 200+)

Burnout Legends isn't as good as the normal console's versions. But it's not a BAD game, it's average. But don't let that stop you from buying it used for $12-$15.

...And it got a 3.5 rating on IGN (which equals "Bad" on their scale).

Yeah Nintendo isnt really the company in general for racing games apart from the EA tye stuff which comes out cross platform but def get a DS because there is just so much more to do on it! Its really got so many random things that are great fun..... like warioware! plus all the mario stuff!

Don't buy a DS for racing games. I have played just about every racing game their is for it and haven't been impressed. Mario Kart is a must and Need for Speed Underground was actually not bad, but that's all. For portable racing games PSP is the daddy.

I love my DS for the creative games it has on it. Feel the Magic, Warioware Touched, Nintendogs, Animal Crossing, Pac Pix, Puyo Pop, Yoshi, Advance Wars: Dual Strike, Kirby Canvas Curse, Mario 64 etc. etc. are all great, but I almost always end up playing my PSP on the way to work.
