F1 Esports Launches "Women’s Wildcard" Qualifier for Pro Exhibition

A women's division would be a better alternative.
P.S. If women had some type of fair edge, would there be a male division opportunity?

I'm sure they're glad to have you speaking for them.

I know they don't need it (they win races since the beggining, last weekend at Monza by the way), better that thinking they need an extra opportunity in order to achieve a final.

But they don't. So the question remains...

And the answer remains : there is nothing stopping them.

One solution can be making more advertising targeting women, as they do also for age ranges.

You're just doing this for attention right? You have to be pretty miserable to die on this hill.

And I'm just gonna take a shot in the dark and say you're probably very far removed from being an expert on Women.

Are you insulting me ?

It's okay, I think we all know why you don't want to answer and keep evading - after all, you think women can see women competing in a think women don't compete in - it's just weird to keep persisting is all.

I'm evading nothing, as I said before, the solution can be making more advertising targeting women, as they do also for age ranges.

So the answer is possibly that they have done advertising (intentionally or not) targeting men in precedent years, instead of targeting women and men.

You do realize this competition is a form of advertising... right? They're not running it because they have nothing better to do, they're doing it because they want to sell more games.

And over your head it goes again.

How about you actually answer the questions you have been asked, rather that just do your usual avoidance routine?

Just done, and been done even before.

So stop your usual poor lessons routine.

Right. They can do open events (by raffle or VIP people) with women and men in order to make it as an adverising and sell more games too.

Let's make this simple.

Answer the question @Famine asked you without avoidance.

No avoidance here : as I said before, nothing is stopping them, the solution can be making more advertising targeting women, as they do also for age ranges.

So the answer is possibly that they have done advertising (intentionally or not) targeting men in precedent years, instead of targeting women and men.

Definitely got a whiff of Mountain Dew and neckbeard from one or two people in this thread. The Women's Wildcard is a positive thing. How anyone can see it otherwise is beyond me, other than feeling salty that you won't qualify or something.

While it's a very over-simplified version of the sentiment, the phrase "you can't be what you don't see" applies here; women are underrepresented, so less women can identify with those taking part, and as a result less women end up taking part. And on the cycle goes. You can trace this back to toy shops having blue and pink toys, "this is for boys, and that is for girls". It's all socialisation, and F1 Esports is trying to do their part to correct it, good on them. This article about women in tech basically explains what I mean, just substitute computer science for sim racing. https://www.themuse.com/advice/you-cant-be-what-you-cant-see-how-to-get-more-women-in-tech

The WRC has a very similar thing through WRC 9, the FIA Rally Star, and it's only open to 17-26 year olds, because they want to attract more young people to the sport. If this doesn't make you angry, but the Women's Wildcard does, then we've found your problem.

FIA Rally Star also has a women-only final, and one guaranteed female berth in the first stage of the final prize, with a full-season JWRC drive :D

Motorsport (and by extension, sim racing) is a very male-dominated sport in terms of representation, and I'm sure we can all agree that certain pockets of gaming communities are less than welcoming to women.

There are plenty of talented people out there (Emily Jones being one GT fans might be aware of) but the environment can be rather hostile so I imagine a bunch of solid female sim racers don't bother as a result. Hopefully this changes that as racing is for everyone.
Well, No, we can NOT agree! This is always the same not true tale, that motorsport is male-dominated sport. We lost our gridgirls, who everyone liked (as well the gridgirls themself) and racecars have no gender specific functions. The helmet is unisex, the raceoveral is unisex, the cars, the tracks, even the champagne.

Also, no one (except of some radical islamic states like Saudi-Arabia) forbit girls to drive cars or race cars or even sim-racing games. This comes with intererest and passion for the topic/sport! Counterquestion: Why exist basically no male synchronized swimming team or serious competion? (they exist just 2-3 funny movies about some guys who make this). No woman ever said, boys cant do this, or are not allowed to do this sport? So the reason is just the lack of interest and passion from boys for this sport!

Same with cars, racing and sim-racing. I consider this woman wild card as pure living sexism!

I doth tip my fedora to you n'oble sir. M'ladies will surely findeth thou to be a t'rue Nice Guy.

Wouldn't it be better to educate the idiots who bring a hostile environment towards females than to shove them all into a different event and say there you go girlies?

Why not both? They're not exclusive. Making women more visible in e-sports may already go some way to educating those same people.

Do you have a source on everyone liking grid girls? I certainly didn't. It was completely unnecessary.

And yet there are still far fewer female racing drivers in both real racing and e-sports. Why do you think that is?

Or maybe it's because there are still no male events in the Olympics and men have only been able to compete in mixed groups in the World Aquatics Championships since 2015?

Motorsport is most certainly male-dominated, pick a series that isn't. I can wait.

The only ones that are not male dominated are either ones that are women only like W-Series, or required by regulation to have mixed teams, such as E-Extreme. Those two are also pretty much it for example in those exceptions as well.

We lost our gridgirls,
'Our' gridgirls?

The language here speak volumes. They are not property, they are not 'ours' at all.

Not everyone. When I took my daughters to race events I wanted them to believe they could be a driver if they wanted to, not that the only place for women to exist within the world of Motorsport was as a sex-based marketing tool!

The helmet is unisex, the raceoveral is unisex, the cars, the tracks, even the champagne.
Unless you have some odd ideas about anatomy, race overalls are most certainly not unisex. Then again you've utterly missed the point.

Going to need a citation on this claim that the real reason is that women are not interested.

Oh and male synchronized swimming exists at every level apart from the Olympics and even that is looking likely to change, it was also almost exclusively a male-sport until the early 20th century, so you might want to pick an analogy that has some basis in fact, rather than just pulling one out of your rear.

Oh look here's the Mixed World Synchronized swimming championship, I can literally deluge you with videos of male and mixed synchronized swimming team and competitions if you would like.

Oh and to further compound the utter inaccuracy of your claim, men's synchronized swimming doesn't have events at the higher levels at all and the mixed events have only existed at the higher levels since 2015, so it's not because of a 'lack of interest'. So men were banned from competing, and that ban was kept in place by men not women (as FINA's 26 person voting committee is 90% male).

To even further compound you inaccuracy, women have been able to drive in Saudi for a year now, and some (still a small number) hold race licenses and have raced in Saudi.

Oh and given that 40% of eSports competitors in Saudi are female, I'm going to need to see some proof that they are banned from sim racing as well.

Oh waity, I can debunk that nonsense as well:

"SAFEIS believes the simple beauty of Esports is that it is digital by design and can be enjoyed by everyone, anywhere, and at any time. Men and women, young and old. And with COVID-19 making the world feel more disconnected and distant than ever before, SAFEIS is proud to help unite and connect the global gaming and motorsports communities at a virtual Le Mans."

SAFEIS is the Saudi Arabian Federation for Electronic & Intellectual Sports, its Chairman is HRH Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Sultan, they openly promote Sim Racing among its eSport programmes, for men and women.

To be blunt not only is your analogy bogus, but it's based on 'facts' that are simply not accurate at all.

Same with cars, racing and sim-racing. I consider this woman wild card as pure living sexism!
Nope, but to see some real living sexism just re-read your post. The sexist assumptions littered in it are quite clear.

This initiative feels like ticking boxes rather than making an actual effort to bring women into e-sports. Why just a spot for one woman? Why not a whole championship just for them, like the men have theirs, with teams, prizes, broadcasts and everything? Whoever wins this qualifier is going to end up feeling like a mere add-on, an afterthought for an event that was not originally meant for them, and they're going to be under unnecessary, serious pressure to perform, so that they don't feel like they're there out of courtesy instead of merit.

Also, I really dislike the idea that lack of women in motorsport/e-sports, is automatically linked to some kind of discrimination. What if these things are male dominated because males just like them more? What's wrong with different people liking different things?

What's wrong with different people liking different things?

Nothing. The problem is it's increasingly common that those "different things" for both/all sexes don't involve motorsports or associated games. Things like this will hopefully do something to gain a few fans, and if not at least they can say they tried.

Motorsports in general is running out of rich old guys willing to spill money into it, any honest attempt to reach a new audience should be applauded, not ridiculed.

Interesting topic. I can see both sides of the argument to be honest. For example, there is nothing to say that women can't participate in eSports, even if it's male-dominated. On the other hand, it's possible that they may feel uncomfortable in a 'macho' kind of environment and so would feel better having their own eSports series?
There's also the whole thing about certain hobbies perhaps not resonating with a particular gender. While there's no doubt that there are women who are interested in cars and racing, it's probably quite safe to say that statistically, men on the whole would be far more interested.
