Basically, what's your favorite (or all time favorite) "old school" rap song ever?

My Mind's Playing Tricks On Me - Geto Boys

Regulate - Warren G ft. Nate Dog

Dead Presidents 2 - Jay-Z

Real Mutha****in G's - Eazy-E

Let Me Ride - Dr. Dre ft. Snoop Dog

These three songs have the best beats EVER!
The Geto Boys song is funny but is kinda sad at the same time 'cause of the kind of things that scare them, sorta like fatalism.
The Regulate song is probably the best one because of Nate Doggs voice and the jazzy beat that reminds of an oldies song but of which I can't remember.
The Dead Presidents song is so emotional, you gotta listen to it.
The Eazy-E song is probably the epitome of gangsta music but thats just my opinion.

The last song is probably what G-Funk really is (along side regulate). It has the flute, the guitar and even a nice catchy hook.

 Why do I get the feeling Fitty Scent is gonna be in da house soon... ?

Not totally a classic but the best rap song to me is Juvenile - Back dat ass up.

Just about anything by

Public Enemy
Eric B. and Rakim
Jurassic 5

all 3 have a truly timeless sound. Their music has been around for at least 10-15 years and they still sound fresh and exciting today 👍

Any thing of Dr Dre-Chronic 1993 thats a classic album or snoop dogg-Doggystyle 1993 those albums are awsome. oh and warren g regulate.

You guys can just scrap the songs you just mentioned.... because the best old school joint ever is:

Pete Rock & CL Smooth - T.R.O.Y. (They Reminence Over You)

Don't even dare to argue.

2 other great ones are:

Nas - NY State of Mind
Paris - The devil made me do it

"Can't Touch This" by MC Hammer.

Just kidding.

"Burnt _feat. Hieroglyphics", by Del tha Funkee Homosapien.

Also "Ahonetwo, Ahonetwo", Del tha Funkee Homosapien.

Lastly, anything by Jurassic 5, Public Enemy, and "Homegrown" & "Illusions", both by The Pharcyde.

:sly:

A few albums (remembering I'm only 20, so "old school" to me isn't necessarily 'proper' old school).

Common - Resurrection
Dr. Dre - The Chronic
Nas - Illmatic
Ice Cube - Lethal Injection
Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle
De La Soul - 3 Feet High and Rising

I like the above choices and so I shant mention them again but basically anything tupac and anything that Dr.dre had his hand in. Snoop and warren G and Ice Cube is all good stuff aswell.

A good song to cruise about in is:

Big Poppa - Biggie Smalls

Dr. Dre-Let Me Ride
Eazy E-Boyz In Da Hood
MC Shy D-Come On Shake It
Cybotron-Clear
Freestyle-Don't Stop The Rock
N2Deep-Back To The Hotel

Anything on the fly?

Agree. I love that track:tup:
and i also like 'aint nothin but a g thang' by Snoop and Dre. Thats not a very old tune but its a classic.

Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang/36 Chambers

eliseracer
Young MC - Bust a Move

Rage Against the Machine - Autologic

^off their first demo-tape, never officially released.
Young MC. Yessssssssssss! I liked Rage's "pocketful of shells" song(I don't remember the title). Very good album, I have it on CD somewhere.....

"She's dressed in yellow/She says hello/Come sit next to me you fine fellow."

The Rage tune is Bulls on Parade.

That solo is absolutely mind blowing. I don't think that people give enough repsect to Morello for his breakthroughs in guitar effects and technique. Rage is pretty much the grandfather of Rap-metal as we know it today, with all of the Linkin' Parks and Limp Bizkits desperately and embarassingly trying to keep it alive.

LL Cool J - Mama Said Knock You Out

Ice Cube - No Vaseline (most of the Ice Cube I got is old school)

Tupac

Sir Mix Alot - Baby Got Back (I do like that song, and I do like big butts)

Wu-Tang : C.R.E.A.M , Method Man
Cypress Hill: Rock star, insane in the brain
WARREN G: REGULATE, This Dj, I want it all, I got 5 on it
Dr. Dre : ain't nuthin but a G thang
213: Fly remix
Monstar's- Hit em high
Tupac- Changes, Ghetto Gospel
Nas- One mic, Got yourself a gun, ether
Jay z- Big pimpin

I love to hear old school joints whenever I can, either radio or TV. A lot of the stuff out now I can't listen to it no more than like 3 times before I change the station or channel. The old school I can listen to all day every day, which I can do every other day as I have Music Choice channels on cable. I can't decide on one, so I'll have artists listed and tracks/albums where they fit.

RUN DMC
Beastie Boys - License to Ill, To the 5 Boroughs
LL Cool J

I think it seems that Def Jam had a lock on Old School.
_______

Audio Two - Top Billin
Mantronix - Bassline
No I.D. - Sky's the Limit --I can't find this album anywhere
Common (Sense) - Hits by the Pound
Ganstarr/Guru - Discipline, Full Clip
Kid Frost (?) - La Raza
Ice T - High Rollers
NWA
Pete Rock - Soul Survivor(the album)
Camp Lo - Uptown Saturday Night(the album)
Grand Master Flash and The Furious Five - The Message
Pharcyde - Passing Me By

Definitely a good list, by the way.... a little off topic, but all real hiphop heads should check this link:

http://wingrinsmedia.com/thebreakdowntv/main/main.html

It contains a new interview with Immortal Technique, whose next album will be big once it comes out. It also has a bunch of good old school and lesser known hiphop videos thrown in between. It should keep you entertained for at least half an hour.

Luchini - This Is It

BTW, "Regulate" by Warren G samples Michael McDonald's "I Keep Forgettin."

I've been looking for this for A LONG TIME. There's a regulate remix with the bass tuned down with Michael McDonald lacing the chorus.

Tupac;
Thugz Mansion
Changes
California Love
**** The World

House of Pain;
Jump Around

Coolio;
Gangsta's Paradise

LL Cool J;
Something like a Phenomenon

Wyclef Jean, Pras, Mya, ODB
Ghetto Super Star

Fugees ( i don't know if it really counts, but they used to be in my car at all times, for the ladies of course )
