Ford and Volkswagen Looking to the Future With a Potential Partnership

Badge Engineered sedans.

Ford realises that it pissed off its investors, so partnering with another automaker to build your cars for you is much cheaper than making your own.

This is funny, the British offered Volkswagen to Henry Ford II to buy in the 1940s. Ford said the car was a piece of junk and would only sell for 2 to 3 years best. Ford thought it would be a loss of profit. Well the rest is history and we all know what VW became.

Ford and Volkswagen are both known for selling some of the best selling and most popular cars of all time:
Ford Escort (1968 - present) 20 Million Sold
Ford Model T (1908 - 1927) 16.5 Million Sold
Ford - F Series (1948 - present) 40 Million Sold

Volkswagen Beetle (1938 - 2003) 23.5 Million Sold
Volkswagen Passat (1973 - present) 15.5 Million Sold
Volkswagen Golf (1974 - present) 30 Million Sold

Forget the new Ford Focus RS, it will be the Focus GTI. :)
Actually, it would more likely be a Focus R. The Focus ST would be a GTI.

----
Though, this is something I really didn't see coming. I actually kinda look forward to seeing what results from this partnership, even if it's just commercial vehicles.

Dear God, please no. I want the 'coal-rollers' to stick to pickups. Even better, they should stop those habits.
One can "diesel" without rolling coal...

Yeah, no...that strikes me as exactly the sort of thing a diesel Mustang owner would do. Frankly, with an old Changer and a Mazda RX-8 as recipients of diesel swaps to do it, I'm astonished nobody's done it to a Mustang already.

Oh look...

Coal rolling right into a crowd of people. The extra torque will help make sure it has deep crowd penetrating power too.

Diesel Mustang? Anyone? Anyone?

Well, the Volkswagen Group is no stranger to monster diesel engines. Like that time Audi offered the Q7 with a diesel V12. Or even the diesel V8 they have in the SQ7 now.

I mean, there some serious possibilities. As per luxury brands. Could be something there Lincoln could use from Audi, Porsche, Bugatti(yeah right). Just saying.

I mean Mustangs like to drive into crowds of people. With all the extra torque of a diesel, it can really slam through the crowds with ease
Wow. Seeking a little more context, I dipped my toes into the "mustang crowd" memeosphere. I have no love for Mustangs and Mustang owners, but that's news to me.

Hey, I just said that.

No thanks, I don't want to drive a Mustang and be reminded of a school bus.
Kind of ironic. I owned an '88 Jetta 16V w/VR6 conversion. The exhaust was by Techtonic Tuning. Matte black, 2 1/4", people said it looked like a school bus exhaust.

Ford badge at the front end and a VW badge at the rear end of the car when it is an European Ford and vice versa when it is a VW.
