Ford USA - Ranger and Bronco Return?

The styling of the global Ford Ranger is great. They should just sell that in the States, but that could be a possibility since they've tested the '16 version in the States.
 
I never even knew they stopped making it.
It's been gone since 2011.

It would be even smaller since they are realizing the world Ranger is much too big since its nearly the size of the F150 but less capable.
 
Ranger + Ecoboost motors? 10/10 Would hoon. Apparently the V6 Ecoboost is already in the US Transit and the auto journalists are doing burnouts with it..
 
Which is exactly why they are bombing in sales.
??? They just went on sale. Granted they've already had a recall and a stop sale, but I think they've only been arriving at dealerships in the last couple weeks or so.

Really? News to me then. I was under the impression they weren't doing well; thought they'd been out longer. Pardon me for not keep up on it I suppose.
 
@Slash unfortunately I don't think Ford would offer a manual over here. The only manufacturer to offer a manual in their full size trucks is Dodge but even they only offer an automatic in the 1500.

It sure feels like it'll be that way only since most trucks are losing it. I have noticed that 3/4 tons, at least with Fords have retained them. My dad was eyeballing them just browsing around and he noticed a lot of old school features on some of the 3/4 tons; stick 4WD, manual transmissions and even manual locking hubs. I have a feeling for ease of use it wouldn't make it into a small truck though. Which is a shame.

I will say though, the 8 speed auto in the Dodge 1500 with the EcoDiesel is pretty damn good. I haven't hauled heavy, only 5K lbs or so but the truck handled it very well and it was never hunting for gears. Still, I prefer a manual.

2014 models I believe he said they were, might have been late/last of the 2013's (this was in June). I pretty much almost got into an argument over it with him because I too had never heard of that. He must have some special connections because I know guys who drop well over 100K with Ford for their new company trucks every few years and none of them could get manuals with the Powerstroke or gassers. I believe the last year Ford offered a manual transmission was 2010.

These trucks were equipped with the 6.2L engine. As far as I know he just went to drop off our Escape XLT for a old recall that never was fixed 10 years ago or so and while waiting was checking out what was on the lot.

But knowing my Dad who is a bigger Ford guy than I am I wouldn't doubt he might have pulled a few strings.
 
Your dad could make a whole hell of a lot of money then if he is the only one in the States that can get his hand on a F-350 with a manual tranny. Hell, the guys I know would probably pay him at least $5K over what he did to get their hands on one.

He told me there was quite a few of them there. He was eyeballing automatic equipped ones but the dealer told him they had manuals available (he saw exactly one) but didn't give a price. My dad's not interested in manuals; he can't drive one to save his life (different when it comes to ATV's though). He was looking at F-250's. He wouldn't buy one anyways; he's too attached to the '85 he's had for almost 30 years.

Do you have the name and number of the dealer? I'd love to give them a call and ask them about these trucks. If they really do have them available I can almost guarantee you they'll have them sold tomorrow because I know at least 5 gentleman who would drive up there this weekend and be at their doors when they open on Monday.

I want to say it was Dave Smith Ford in Buffalo, NY. But this was back in June so I'm not sure what's available now.

I'm willing to bet that, if the Colorado/Canyon are a success (reviews are practically calling them a revelation compared to the decade old Frontier and Taco), Ford will get into the game. Although, at this rate, I'd expect FCA to jump in the game before them. With a Fiat-based light duty pickup. Go Ford.
 
I'm doubting the validity of a 2013/2014 Ford truck with a manual, considering they aren't even offered on the chassis cabs (450/550) or even on the large trucks (650/750).

I'm very, very active in the truck "scene" and @Slash is the only person I've seen mention a new Ford with a manual. I looked at the inventory of the dealership he mentioned and not a single truck had a manual (as expected) but I'll be giving them a call in the morning to ask about it since his father was so adamant that he can get his hands on one.
 
The T6 Ranger, as it is now, will never be sold in the United States.

When it was launched, it was simply too big. Too close to the F150.

And now the Ranger's natural competition, the Colorado, has been released in the US.

But the US Colorado is nothing like the global car. It's much bigger... and bigger than the Ranger, which was already "too big".

In other words... if Ford wants to sell the Ranger, they'll have to upsize it... which will lead to the market cannibalization they were trying to avoid in the first place. They could downsize it, but the rest of the world is already enjoying the new, bigger Ranger, and wouldn't buy a smaller one... so your economies of scale go out the window and you've got a new, small truck only sold in the US that has to meet strict Federal standards... which will cost $$$.

So... no Rangers for you. Sorry.
 
There's less market space for compact pickups in 2014 than there was ten years ago when Chevy and Ford were already giving up on them. The Colorado works for GM because between the utility companies and the private handymen there is just enough buyers to drive sales for a somewhat smaller and more manageable truck as the bulk purchased fleet 2011 Rangers near the end of their life. And the new F-150 makes that market even smaller, since other than cost differences new Ranger will have to go up against a new full size truck that probably wouldn't be any heavier and would be powered by the same drivetrains.


An actual compact truck like the old Ranger powered by four cylinders and turbos starting under 20,000 could work. Ford reviving the name as a Dodge Dakota instead wouldn't.

Also, that Ford spokesman is right. There is absolutely no need for a Ranger when they have the Transit and Transit Connect.

If it won't fit in a Transit Connect, you wouldn't use a Ranger for it. You'd get either an F-150 or a Transit.
