I believe there was an oil crisis in the States at the end of the 70's, no one wanted to buy 400 HP V8 cars any more. Some names continued but basically became different cars. This also wasn't helped by the fact that American cars from the 80's/90's were terrible anyway.

In 1988 this was what the Mustang became:

Smallest engine was a 86 HP L4.

Still better than the proposed replacement, the Ford Probe.

Don't forget about the second generation "Challenger" :yuck:

American cars really did take a turn for the worst then... Good thing that things are now looking up for American Muscle cars...

I have heard that the Ford Mustang V8 Premium is a pretty hard car to tune. Is that right?
Don't forget about the second generation "Challenger" :yuck:

Technically, the second generation Challenger is not an American car. It's a Mitsubishi Galant rebadged as a Dodge, and it was born and raised in Japan. But it definitely didn't live up to the Challenger nameplate.

I know, hence the quotation marks. The 2nd gen should've never had the Challenger name just like the current Dart. While I don't dislike either of them I just don't feel they should bear those names.

It's slightly slower than the F-150 Lightning. Funny how an old S13 nearly beats it

It's slower than the Kusabi, FTO, Focus ST and the R32 GTS!

I've lost a lot of respect for this car now!

I'm surprised at some of the cars the Kusabi beats actually. I remember driving it once on GT4 and never went back.

Interesting how the Mustang gets beat by cars with about 40 PP less, but it manages to beat a few vehicles that have about 20 PP less.

The Mustang proved to be good at something. Drifting. Other than that it somehow just cannot compete against the other cars in its class. Unfortunately PD got the PP value wrong on this car also, making it overlooked and unpopular. This week's car is one you more than likely haven't seen or heard of in Gran Turismo. This week's forgotten car is.....

The Toyota Carina ED 2.0 X 4WS '89. Some of you may be thinking "oh great, another sleeper car that nobody will look at". I was looking for a different car to drive around online and I stumbled upon this thing. Surprisingly it has been very good to me so far.

The restyled second generation was introduced 1989 and luxury equipment content increased. Four-wheel steering appeared on the top level offering and styling was updated more closely resemble theCorona EXiV. Electronic fuel injection was made standard on all engines offered.
In December 1988, a full-time 4WD system with a center differential was added to the sedan (chassis code AT175). The 1587 cc 4A-FE is the only engine available for this new AWD model.

In May 1990 only minor changes. The Toyota emblem in the back is changed to a bright tail lamp lenses bulging from three places and was changed from the previous split design. (The front of the van was not changed). The previous generation was a gasoline car engine and is still using the 1800 cc the 4S-FE, 1500 cc with a 5A-FE type. For the front-wheel-drive vehicle 1600 cc 4A-FHE the horsepower is increased from 105 to 110 PS (77 to 81 kW; 104 to 108 hp). 4WD vehicles are still equipped with the 4A-FE type. Surf Wagon 2,000 cc 2C has been changed to a diesel (CT170G type). It could be fitted with a driver-side airbag as an option.

So what do you think? Let me know and as always, keep the suggestions coming!!!

For what it is, the Carina isn't a bad car. It doesn't deserve the Carina nameplate since it isn't a beautiful car. I have no experiences with this car in Gran Turismo.

I got a fresh-out-the-dealer Carina to run a low 1:38 at Mid-Field with a maximum speed of 105 mph.

Cars that finished within 0.500 seconds:

1:37.916 - 341 - Mazda Demio Sport '03
1:37.924 - 358 - Chevrolet Corvette Convertible (C1) '54
1:38.323 - 340 - Toyota Carina ED 2.0 X 4WS '89

1:38.493 - 332 - Toyota Vitz RS 1.5 '07
1:38.651 - 384 - Mini Marcos GT '70
1:38.660 - 340 - Honda Accord Coupe '88
1:38.670 - 327 - Toyota Prius G Touring Selection (J) '03
1:38.728 - 330 - Volkswagen New Beetle 2.0 '00
1:38.734 - 346 - Nissan Skyline 2000GT-B (S54B) '67
1:38.794 - 341 - Toyota Voltz S '02

Honda's Accord wasn't too far behind.

One thing I hate about this car:

Look closely at the name. Do you see it? Look closer. That's right. "4WS" Four Wheel Steering. FOUR WHEEL STEERING! Do you see that thing steering with all four wheels!? Why would you put a car in the game with 4WS in the name and not bother to put in the 4WS? Potentially the only interesting thing about the car and it's not even there!

Anyway, rant over, I like this car a bit, I think the back looks pretty good. Reminds me of the VN Commodore.

PS I hope I'm correct...at least I know the Celica 4WS is not actually 4WS, because I bought one for that very reason, and then found out I wasted my money.

The Skylines should also have 4WS. Basically every japanese middle or luxury class car at this time had 4WS as an option :D

I'd like to suggest possibly a Citroen C3? Great car for 350PP-400PP racing. Shame you never see them online.
