And Max has a 62 point lead. If Lando gets all available points, Max only needs 24 points in the last 3 races.

After next race there will be 60 points left over. So Lando needs to gain 2 points to be able to tie with Max, but Max should win on the tiebreaker I think. So Lando needs to gain 3.

Well the extra money Alpine win from going up in the WCC will surely be welcomed by the engine department... Wait.
Could be a masterstroke by Alpine and this result will just boost the coffers for pure car development. Could be a dark horse in '26.
 
Were they really under the budget cap? I doubt it.
That wasn't what I meant, I meant that they can now plow more into pure car development with no worries of engine spending. Yes they still have to buy in from Merc but it'll be a dam sight cheaper than self development.
 
That race shows why Verstappen deserves this title. He hasn't had it all his way since Spain, car development hasn't worked well for RB vs McLaren and even Ferrari, yes there have been questionable racing decisions from him which landed him (mostly) deserved penalties, but a drive like today, there can be no doubt how good he is.

Could Lando have done that drive from P17 today? No, I really don't think he could have.
 
You know, I didn't think one interview could suddenly turn me sour on a driver but wow, I suddenly am not a fan of Lando.
 
If Hamilton is struggling with Russell as his teammate, I wonder how he will perform in 2025 against Charles.
I think at Mercedes, he didn't have quite the challenger teammate after Rosberg for a while so Russell has kinda pushed him the hardest (in a similar way that he himself did to Alonso). Going to Ferrari, he's on one hand gonna have to be the one fighting his way in again but he's free of the baggage of essentially having "His" team suddenly taken from underneith him.

That said, I'd argue he's handled it far better then Vettel did when Ricciardo showed up at Red Bull and then Leclerc at Ferrari.

I haven't seen the race, but P17 to win for Max is very impressive, albeit a bit of a shame for what was left of the jeopardy in this year's title chase.

With how unpredictable this season was for awhile, I was never comfortable betting on ANYONE.
 
Betting on Sauber to not get a point even?
Buddy, I wasn't even predicting this season to entirely go on without Alpine somehow getting a massive points haul. After today, I feel vindicated with said decision despite how easy it could've been to bet on it.

We still COULD get a race where Sauber somehow gets points.

We may have the final result in a few hours. Seeing some decisions come through. Mercedes get a 5,000 euro penalty a piece for the tire pressure adjustments. Carlos gets a reprimand for trying to drive away when the marshals started recovery. He put the steering wheel back on as they were starting to put the recover loop on.

Are Williams going to have enough spare parts to make it to the next race? I'm watching the race for the first time now and seeing Colapinto hitting the wall again.

Thankfully, there is a break before the final three races so at the very least we won't have the Sargeant situation. That said, it still might be abit tight.

You can say the second half of the season has been very exiting. But on the other hand, no one's been closer than 44 points at any point, which is still a huge gap considering RBR's reliability and Max' consistency.

I applaud Mclaren and Ferrari, though. I hope we can start 2025 off on the same foot as the balance currently is.

We basically had that same hopium from the beginning of 2022 (Although the multiple race winners and lack of Red Bull wins for a while made it quite legit for abit). That said, I did forget the one thing out of all those parallels I made to 2012: Red Bull still wins.

And if 2013 is anything to go by, We have AT least one more Red Bull championship before Someone really figures the new ruleset and runs with it. Calling it now.

What's the whole 'cooling' water in the tyres about ?
Wouldn't any moisture increase in volume as the tyre temp went up and increase pressure and therefore temperature ?
Although I can see that being an advantage on a wet circuit ,if you could generate enough heat in the tyre ?

Drive some Gran Turismo 7 races with wets on a drying track. You'll be hunting for water to keep them from wearing to shreds.

Because that's how it works.
An overheating tyre will give up some of its energy , heat , to the water on the track surface.
If that water is trapped insde the tyre it will quickly reach its boiling point , well within the operating range of an f1 tyre , and basic physics demand that the change of state from liquid to gas result in expansion which when trapped inside the tyre has to increase pressure and thereby increase tyre temp and wear.
