Game Freezing/Locking Up After 1.06

Hi all.

I've been having a freezing problem recently also. It's driving me nuts. First it started freezing when I went into the car settlings menu after the update where it has new logos for the new settings like weight ballast etc. When I first went in there, the screen showed up a small 'installing' logo that flashed on the bottom right of screen. The music went off and it sat there for as long as I could stand it and then I quit the game and went back in. After I went back in it seemed to work the second time. But from there it's gotten worse.

I cannot complete the Sebastian Loeb rally challenges because it does the same flashing 'installing' logo freeze when I enter the race.

My friend sent me a couple of cars and it froze when I clicked 'accept'. Then after the 1.06 update he sent me another car and all of a sudden there was a prompt telling me I had a gift. I went in there to accept an X2010 and the freaking thing froze again :grumpy:

Also the final race I have to complete in B Spec before being able to do the endurance races is the formula gran tourismo championship. Each race takes almost an hour and when I get to the second last one it freezes every time. This is SO annoying and I've tried it 3 times now.

I just completed the Indy 500 and hit level 30 A spec and tried to do the Vettel red bull challenges to try and get all gold and get the X2010 myself. I go into the track menu where you can select start, exit, options etc. I can hear the car going around the track but I can't see it. It seems as though it can't find the info on the disk it's looking for. When I press the green flag to start the race, it comes up with the 'installing' freeze again.

I have installed the 8gig (or whatever it is) data onto the PS3 as prompted when I first installed the game just before Christmas. Since then I've done all updates and have played online. I've tried logging off, same problem, but haven't tried the Restore File System option. I might try that tonight. But failing that, is there anything else that can be done? If it's the PS3, I'm happy to get a new one. If it's the disk hell I'll go get another copy and sell this one on eBay. It's driving me crazy! I'm obsessed with the game and it's ruining it by freezing all the time.

If anyone is having/had the exact same issue with the 'installing' logo flashing in the bottom right of screen I'd love to hear from you and/or if you've fixed it somehow.

Thanks so much guys 👍

This really sucks man, do you have a slim or the old fat PS3, might be the laser dying on you if it's an old one, I've read a few articles about this...

I'm still having issues, and still don't buy into this crap about the internet connection. Mine, while far from the best, is definitely no slouch. I cannot even view a car in a dealership anymore. I've completely wiped the PS3 and am starting over from scratch (guess I should have backed up my other data first -- oh well). I also still find it odd that all these problems started occurring after the 1.06 update and suddenly now maybe my laser went bad? All other games and any movie I throw in there work flawlessly! Also, if it was a problem with trying to connect to the servers, why isn't everyone having this problem? The people posting up positive things about this update and the ability to ACTUALLY PLAY THE GAME far outweigh the other camp who CANNOT EVEN PLAY THE GAME ANYMORE. Furthermore, if it is a problem with the GT5 servers, why did it just start, and how can anybody be expected to be able to play an online game?

This system is just over two years old and really has only had maybe 50 hours of total use, and even that is probably a stretch.

Sorry for the scatterbrained post. I just woke up. Also, thank you for your original post, Dan. I forgot to thank you yesterday.

I think it's a case of left hand not knowing what the other's doing. PD has made this game so huge and digitally cumbersome for current Sony standards. The fact that older (phat) PS3 have more of the freezing problems seem to indicate that the BluRay disc reader system has something to do with it. The slim or newer PS3s have a better system. Server and connectivity technology definitely has something to do with it since disabling internet connection makes the game more stable.
My system is an upgraded (325GB HDD swap) phat PS3 with a wireless Mac 100GB airport router. I get 70% internet signal most times but my online performance varies. During peak gaming times, after dinner or weekends, my game "freezes" all the time. If I leave and come back 5 minutes or so later, the next screen is usually up. Off-peak hours, it's usually trouble-free, albeit slow - from the sheer size and complexity of the game.
Remote racing has definitely slowed this game down.

This really sucks, I have a brand new ps3 (my old one died a couple months ago) good Internet connection, have tried everything mentioned to try and fix this and nothing has worked. Now if I want to play the game I have to delete all my progress and start from scratch. The problem with that is I don't see the point, why Would I believe that the same problem won't happen again? This game takes a lot of time to get through, and without anything to play for and trying to progress through the game there really isn't any reason to play it. Its very disappointing as I've waited for years for this game only to seemingly waste my money and not be able to play it. It looks like I'll just have to move on to another game and keep checking from time to time to see if they've done anything to fix these problems.

For a game that has been in development since the PS3 was announced, and probably before that, the reasoning of having an old PS3 system just doesn't make sense. Shelling out an additional $300 just to play this game is unacceptable. Call me crazy.

Yeah It happens to me also sometimes! My game freezes up and in some races when I finish 1st, It says I finished 2nd or 3rd a few seconds from behind.. I don't know what's happenning.

I hope the new update repairs those bugs.

OK. I'm done.

After wiping the entire PS3, it still locked up.

Just for gits and shiggles, I signed out of my PSN account. I restarted the game and was able to navigate around in the garage! I thought "Wow! That really fixed it?!" Then I clicked on another car and it locked up again. It's not a problem with PSN. I don't see it being a problem with my laser, suddenly just immediately after this latest update and I'm not buying the notion that my system is just too old to support this game. Does anybody have any contact information for Sony or Polyphony Digital? I tried calling Sony, but it seems as if they only want to deal with hardware issues and nothing else.

Your hard drive is corrupt,( cooked, fried, done) which means having read your posts, I think you have an old fat PS3.Back up everything to a (fat 32) formatted external hard drive,go buy a new 2.5 inch hard drive reinstall and put it all back on.i had the same problem 6 months ago.

I'm having exactly the same problems as Geor and I also don't buy either the "internet access" theory or the "fried hard drive theory". I do have the fat PS3 but it works perfectly well with other games and movies. I've checked for corrupt files and sure enough they were there so I let it fix this. Still no joy. I then signed out of PSN and this makes no difference either. I did not have this problem before Update 1.06 so logic is telling me this is the problem. Is it possible to have too many cars? One thing I have noticed though is that if I go into Arcade mode and scroll through the car list it ALWAYS freezes at a McLaren! Too many McLarens?

Well, as bizarre as this is going to sound I sold the two McLarens I had this issue with and hey presto! It doesn't seem to lock up any more. I had trouble selling them as every time I tried to do it the game would lock up after I attempted it. After rebooting when I went to the McLaren section in my garage the thumbnail was gone but the car details remained. The only way I could sell them properly was to use the Triangle button to bring up the menu and sell them from there.

Again, I know this seems somewhat fanciful but I'm not prone to hair-brained theories. I simply eliminated the possible and was left with the impossible. I'm touching wood as I write this though, in the hope that the problem doesn't re-occur.

I have a problem with my GT 5 :-(

The game is sorta hanging.

Very often when i drive a event or license, then after i finish it, my car just keeps on driving around slowly by it self. There is nothing i can do to stop it or go back to the menu. No matter wich buttons i press on the controller, the game does not respond.

Only solution is to quit GT 5 and restart it, but then after a few races it will hang again.

I have and older 40 GB PS3 model, but i installed a bigger HD a long time ago, never had any problems with it though. Nor do i have problems with any other games. its just GT 5 having the problem.

Anyone have this problem too, or know a solution ?

Mine started freezing on random screens however it now freezes when it gets to the main menu screen from which you select GT mode or Arcade mode or other options. No light appears behing the GT Mode Icon and the buttons are unresponsive.

The weird thing is this only happens on one account on my PS3 the other account seems to be unaffected. I have been posting about this problem for roughly a month to 2 months and have never received a decent answer or solution for this problem :(

I'm taking a guess here but from what you say I think it's more than likely a network issue. To check you should disable the network in the PS3 options and see if that helps.
