Welcome to the Gentlemen's Virtual Racing Club, a place for Gentleman drivers to compete together in the virtual world. This will be a casual club with an emphasis on clean driving and camaraderie and all drivers will be expected to race their fellow drivers the way they would want to be raced. No dive-bomb passes, no brake checks, no punting, and if you cause a fellow driver to spin, crash, or leave the track you will be expected to slow up and let that driver have their position back. But the main goal is to enjoy yourself and and socialize with fellow sim-racing enthusiasts. All skill levels are welcome as long as respect is shown for other drivers. We're not here to find the fastest driver, we're just here to have fun.

Our server is up 24/7 except for a few hours on Friday nights when we run the Friday Night Fun races. We will post a new car/track combo each week. We are currently running Minorating and for now we're allowing grades A, B, C, and N. The server name is Gentlemen's Virtual Racing Club.

1. Drive as clean and respectful as possible. Try to avoid contact with fellow racers.
2. No hitting, ramming or corner cutting allowed.
3. Accidents can happen. If you crash someone or cause them to go off course you should slow and allow them to regain their position.
4. If there is any doubt as to whether you will be able to cleanly pull off a pass, wait untill another corner.
5. NO DIVE-BOMBING (to the inside OR outside)
6. Drivers are expected to keep at least 2 wheels on the track/curbs at all times.
7. Blocking is not permitted. You get one move to choose your line and then you must hold it. You can not swerve back to your original line.
8. Rage quitting is frowned upon
9. Please keep mic chatter to a minimum during the race (during practice is ok).
10. Should a driver win in an un-gentlemanly fashion (i.e. crashing their way to the front, flagrantly abusing track limits, etc.) I reserve the right to promote the second place finisher to Wall of Fame status.
11. The goal of the GVRC isn't to prove who the fastest driver is, it's to provide a fun environment where you can drive/race with your fellow sim racing enthusiasts.
12. And of course please follow the GTPlanet Online Rules and The Good Racecraft Guide.

Penalties:

I am not here to penalize people for driving hard or driving passionately. I understand that while we all try our hardest to race cleanly, none of us are perfect, especially in the heat of the moment. That being said, I also expect everyone to learn from their mistakes and I'll do everything I can to help drivers improve their racecraft. If any driver shows repeated instances of gross negligence or overly aggressive driving I reserve the right to disqualify them from the club. Any contact or incident that is deemed to have been intentional will almost certainly result in immediate disqualification from any future events.

To start we will be focusing on Assetto Corsa but if participation grows and demand warrants it we can branch out to include other sims as well. Assetto Corsa is a very user friendly sim with plenty of great content/mods and it seems like most sim racers have it in their library so this is a good sim to build our user-base with. I am open to, and encourage, suggestions for future events but I do have certain things I want from a car/track combo so I will always test them before adding them to the event list (so don't be offended if I choose not to use a specific combo). When possible I will look around the real motorsports calendar and setup events inspired by real-world races happening at that time. As we grow and mature we will improve and maybe even have our own website. This is a starting point and I'm always open to ideas or suggestions on how to improve the club or the racing. For now I am running the server from my own system and I can accommodate about 16 drivers, if things take off and we have more demand than that I'll look into renting some server space to allow for larger grids.

I look forward to seeing you all on track!

So you know that Turn 1 incident we had at Goodwood in the GTAs when you were server testing... Is that allowed? ;)

I have no idea if I will be able to participate in many (if any) of these, but having raced a little with you I know this will be fun for sure!

That too... :P
Seriously though, I hope I can make at least one race at some point!

Me too! Hopefully the time works well for the Euro crowd, I tried to pick a time/day that will fit the greatest number of time zones (even the Aussies/Kiwis).

I think I should be around tomorrow evening, might try to get a little practice session together if anyone's interested.

Looking forward to this, thanks Brandon. Make sure and put a direct link to the version of the track or car mod we're going to use. I know there is more than one version of Donington for example and you can only get into the lobby if you have the right one.

Yes, I'll always provide links to any mod content we're going to use. I want to get home and confirm which Donington I have before providing the link though, I know it came from RD and it's a good one (includes the National and Full layout).

Escorts @ Brands GP, I can get down with that, need to spend more time with the Escort anyhow.

I was last there with the WRC Polo R, e-brake entries into that steep turn 1, 'I tell you whut' :sly:

This is interesting, I'll keep an eye or two on this.

Excellent. It's just for fun, no points or anything and you don't have to attend all the races, just what fits your schedule. A group of us did a test race a couple weekends ago, it all went well and we have a variety of skill levels so everyone should probably have someone to battle with. 👍

Nice initiative, thank you Brandon.

I like those points very much:
Accidents can happen. If you crash someone or cause them to go off course you should slow and allow them to regain their position.
4. If there is any doubt as to whether you will be able to cleanly pull off a pass, wait until another corner.

I will do my best to attend.

Wow! I'd love to participate. Are there limitations on aids? It would be neat if we were all having to rev match and work an hpattern.

I don't think that's an option in the server settings and I don't know if everyone has an H shifter. I forget what the server limitations are but I'd only limit aids to the "factory" settings.

Right on. I'll try to at least join a practice. See if I'm able to keep pace

I'm interested. Not sure if I'll be able to make it next week, but definitely February 6th

Cool, hope to see ya!

Ok, I've always used the Brun version of Donington but checked out the RD version today. I think the RD version looks slightly better but the Brun version drives better with the Abarth AC and the road surface feels a little better so we'll go with that one. Link in the OP.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. Isn't there some debate as to whether camber actually does much in AC?
Usually on street cars it's always like that. Race cars are another story though.
There is actually a thread on AC's official forums I think.

Setting the gear ratio for the specific track, it's important to be able to use the high revs all the way to the top of 6 gear.

The Escort only has five gears. The gearbox is usually the only thing I tinker with, my crew usually doesn't let my ham-fists near the suspension bits.
