Sorry if this has already been discussed (delete or append if it has mods)but something I'd like to see in online racing would be what the topic is.
I can't remember if GT5P does that but even though it's not realistic it could be really annoying if backmarkers or the w*****s that drive wrong way have the opportunity to screw up other peoples races.

I hope it's an option that can be turned off, though. I happen to like avoiding whatever obstacles are in the way, even if they're other vehicles.

I agree about the backwards drivers being "ghosted", however having to maneuver around lapped cars is an important part of racing. Although a flag system would have to be implemented as well since they could cost somebody a win if they don't let them pass.

That's ok if you can implicitly trust the people you are racing with. I always try to be a fair racer but I don't know if I would guarantee that I wouldn't do something wrong if in the position of being lapped by two people racing for the lead and I would trust myself more than the majority of people I've raced against online.

Agree with this, but the whole flag system would raise countless new questions, will it be implemented in some mandatory/ unescapable way like the current penalty system or be voluntary ( meaning you choose to obey or risk penalty afterwards ).
As a lot of online gamers unfortunately will probably ignore it or think someone is cheering them on:D.

I think the best way to enforce a black flag would be to give the person the option to obey the penalty or have the AI take control if they don't.

here is an example.
Blue Flag(signaling to let the faster car pass in a set limit of time)
Black Flag(either come down the pits or AI will take control and do it for you(would have to have additional punishment if the AI does it for you))

It's an interesting idea to let A.I. take control ( already a punishment in itself ).
It would certainly make it fair, but there should also be, like you said, a certain amount of time before it kicks in, otherwise fair drivers who unintentionally might get in the way, will be unfairly punished,
It should be mostly left as IRL, warts and all, only by refusal to obey after a certain time the A.I should kick in.

If a back marker I was lapping didn't get out my way in what I considered a reasonable time I'd punt his sorry butt into the middle of next race and carry on.

I always hated the ghost thing. As long as I can turn it off, that's all that really matters to me.
