Oh no...

Gran Turismo® 7_20240229174857.png

Ah yes, this. Thing is we've now gone from 1 missing circuit from the MEC to 2, as Indianapolis is becoming a 5th round starting this year.
So the ones we have are:
  • Daytona (GT7 Launch)
  • Watkins Glen (Update)
  • Road Atlanta (Update)
And the ones we don't have are:
  • Sebring
  • Indianapolis
Still, if counting Daytona, the last 3 real circuits that have been added (not counting extra layouts for existing circuits) have all come from the IMSA MEC, which might be seen as a potential pattern.

MEC aside, probably the most significant IMSA circuit that we don't have is Road America, known as America's Spa Francorchamps.

But I'd at least imagine that Polyphony would try to mix in circuits from different regions, rather than continue to only focus on North America. Though at this point I'd be happy with anything lol
I totally expect they will bring those tracks to GT same with remaining SuperGT tracks but most likely it won't be in GT7 life cycle :/

I honestly doubt that we will have complete tracks and veichle list and licence for one racing category in GT7/GT8, and I am fine with that.

Just give us variety of road cars, and for official racing categories there is ACC and iRacing.

Thought I'd go over the various racing series and see/speculate what is feasible and what isn't going forward.

F1

Current cars in game: RA272, MP4/4 (F1500T-A is a legally distinct Lotus 97T as well)
Licenced?: By EA (F1 24)
Future prospects: As we know, F1 generally allow one modern-ish car to go to non-licensed games along with historic stuff, such as the Merc in GTS. Worth noting GT are no longer on Hamilton's cap, so there's not an obvious team that screams out "they have a relationship with PD" anymore.

WEC Hypercars (LMH/LMDh)

Current cars in game: GR010
Latest cars not in game: 499P, 9X8, V.Series, 963, M Hybrid
Licensed?: By Motorsport Games (Le Mans Ultimate)
Future prospects: For LMH - the GR010 in GT7 is, to my knowledge, currently the only LMH in a sim outside of Le Mans Ultimate. That means these could pretty tightly locked down license wise, though a lot of them are also pretty new to be fair. LMDh seems a lot more free - the Cadillac is in all of Forza, iRacing and AMS2, and the BMW and Porsche are also in iRacing, and we know PD and IMSA are on okay terms.

LM top class endurance (Group C to LMP1)

Current cars in game: XJR-9, 787B, Sauber C9, R92CP, 962 C, BMW McLaren F1 GTR, CLK-LM, 908 HDI, R18, R18 TDI, TS030, TS050, GT-R LM Nismo, 919
Licensed?: No
Future prospects: Mainly putting this here to acknowledge people want the TS020. The early 00's are the hole in what is otherwise a very well covered list. There's also a bunch of pre-Group C cars but my knowledge of which cars those are exactly is patchy.

Indycar

Current cars in game: None
Licensed?: By iRacing (Game TBA)
Future prospects: Not happening, they're very happy to be back with iRacing after the Motorsport Games debacle.

NASCAR

Current cars in game: None
Licensed?: By iRacing (Game TBA)
Future prospects: Not happening, they're also very happy to be back with iRacing after the Motorsport Games debacle. I could see a world with a generic GT stock car being added for GT8's launch, though.

Super Formula

Current cars in game: SF19, SF23
Latest cars not in game: None
Licensed?: No
Future prospects: They have the cars. The only question is whether Fraga being in Lights last year is enough for the Lights car (iRacing just added it, they also have the full fat SF23).

WRC

Current cars in game: 205 T16, Celica ST205
Latest cars not in game: GR Yaris Rally1, i20N Rally1, Puma Rally1
Licensed?: By EA (EA SPORTS WRC)
Future prospects: Modern rally cars don't really show up outside of the licensed series, so I think the only way we see a Rally1 car is if Toyota really want the Yaris here for some reason. Historic rally cars are possible as seen with the Celica being added. There is the open question here of course of how committed PD are to off-roading of any kind.

Super GT

Current cars in game: '97 Supra GT500, '99 GT-R GT500, 3x '08 GT500s, 3x '16 GT500s, '21 BRZ GT300, '23 RC F GT3 ANEST IWATA
Latest cars not in game: Z GT500, GR Supra GT500, Civic Type R-GT
Licensed?: No
Future prospects: If you believe in patterns, 8+8=16 and 16+8=24, so clearly we're getting the '24 GT500s, right? The relationship here is definitely still at least fine, as we can see by them getting Fraga's Lexus in the game last year, so there's reason to be optimistic on this one I think. I imagine lots of people also want the turn of the century NSX GT500 to complete that trio.

GT3

Current cars in game: A lot. Most recent are 2018 GT-R GT3, 2019 R8 LMS Evo, 2020 AMG GT3
Latest cars not in game: M4 GT3, 296 GT3, 720S GT3, 992 GT3 R, Corvette Z06 GT3 (probably not happening since it's Pratt & Miller)
Licensed?: By Kunos Simulazioni (Assetto Corsa Competizione) - other GT3 championships do exist though
Future prospects: Obviously, very highly requested by a lot of people. My completely unsubstantiated theory here is that PD might be having some trouble with licensing liveries from the individual teams. Because GT3 cars are customer cars, you need licensing from both the manufacturer (to get the car) and the team (to get the livery) if you want a race liveried car. And the most recent ones we've had in GT7 (R8 Evo, AMG Evo, '18 GT-R) have all either had their manufacturer launch livery or a fantasy livery. Maybe something in the ACC contract? I don't know, just speculating. Doesn't seem to hurt iRacing, but I think the team there are closer to the real life teams.

I have the impression that the absence of racing cars in the updates is not due to force majeure or fortuitous circumstances that are beyond PDI's control, such as licensing prices or the like.

I speculate that PDI is deliberately avoiding adding racing cars for a future GT Sport 2, a game that would be dedicated to racing cars and sports mode, or even to serve as a appeal for GT8.

I don't believe these are licensing fees because even Reiza Studios, an independent Brazilian studio, can add current racing cars, including hypercars. I bet it's an internal and business management decision.

At this point I'm hoping that's the case because the alternative is not getting them at all.

Ok. So where are Ferrari and Lamborghini race cars in AMS2? :)

I think they’re just holding them back for gt8

AMS2 does not have all current cars, considering its budget as an independent studio, but it has three current hypercars (Porsche, Cadillac and BMW) and three current GT3 cars (M4, 720S, 992 GT3-R).

That's the regular pricing. When people see Sony (or Microsoft) coming, somewhere between 100% or an entire additional zero gets added to the price...

(while privileged, so I can't reveal specifics, I can say that the prices I've been told for licensing one specific track by a particular third-party title and one first-party one were approximately doubled and seven figures for the latter)

We must not forget that licensing fees is only part of the cost of bringing new cars. You still need to model them, capture the sound, implement its physics, etc. Small studios, even if licensing fees were zero, would still struggle to develop a massive roaster of cars. Expecially race cars, since I would guess these are more difficult to get hands on.

I wish PD/Sony would officially get the licence of the NLS , that way you pretty much get all the latest cars from all the groups :dopey:

but that ain't gonna happen :/

Yeah but why? Maybe licensing fees? ;)
As I said in the original post, I believe it has nothing to do with licensing fees. The fact that Reiza Studios can pay the licensing fee implies that PDI could also pay.

In light of this, I believe PDI has made the decision not to add a large number of new race cars to the GT7. Perhaps PDI believes it already has enough cars for the Gr.3, Gr.2, Gr.1 etc. categories. Therefore, PDI does not want to miss the opportunity to debut the new racing cars in a future GT Sport 2 or GT8, as these new parts would serve as a marketing appeal and commercial gimmick.

Even the Super GT cars (GT500 and GT300) with which PDI has a historical relationship, PDI is avoiding adding (only one car in GT7). It's very curious.

Yeah,

I mean the TOM's Toyota GR Supra GT500 won the Super GT championship in 2021, we have the BRZ GT300 in the game. Where is this car? This car could be the cover car for GT8. I can see the argument for PD to hold this back for the next game, though I don't agree with it.

Hopefully with the 'Games as a service' model dying out as a business model, the next game has the same fresh feeling that GT3/GT4/GT Sport(mostly) had with up-to-date racing machinery.

GT8s cover car? Who's going to be enticed by them flaunting a car that will be a minimum of 5 years old by the time GT8 comes out hahaha. That doesn't make any sense.

Here's our new, current gen only game! Our pride and joy cover car won a championship over half a decade ago from before the previous installment came out!

I don't belive that GT Sport 2 is going to happen, PD has lost FIA partnership as they turned to some games that can implement complete real car categories, so that FIA ship has sailed, and PD is fine with GTWS and players competing with VGT and fantasy cars.

Reiza obviously don't spend as much on other aspects of the game, they don't have as many cars to license and they charge for the DLC (current bundle is literally DOUBLE the price of GT7 25AE). Yes budget allocation is an internal and business management decision, but that doesn't mean that because one does one thing the other can automatically do it too.

Just ran through my stored tickets to see if they still change post-update, with the following results:

1 - 4* - 3/3 - PART Rampage TitRods -> GR Corolla TitRods
2 - 3* - 4/3 - PART Atenza SportSus -> Mazda3 SemiR Silence
3 - 4* - 5/3 - CRED 30k -> SAME
4 - 4* - 7/3 - CRED 10k -> SAME
5 - 4* - 9/3 - PART McLaren 650S SportSus -> SAME
6 - 3* - 12/3 - CRED 5k -> SAME
7 - 4* - 14/3 - CAR Toyota Tundra -> Amuse 380RS
8 - 4* - 20/3 - PART ClioRS'15 SCam -> SAME
9 - 3* - 26/3 - CRED 5k -> SAME
10 - 4* - 27/3 - CRED 30k -> SAME
11 - 4* - 30/3 - CRED 30k -> SAME
12 - 6*P - 1/3 - PART Honda CTR FK2 TitRods -> GT-R NISMO TitRods
13 - 6*P - 8/3 - PART 911 992 CarbShaft -> RX-7 FD CarbShaft
14 - 6*C - 15/3 - CAR Valkyrie -> Peugeot VGT

Seems to still be the case that credit rewards do not change (at least the low ones! I keep the high ones), while car and parts (and engines; I didn't have an engine on this one but I did on the last) may change - both cars and two from six parts changed.

Haven't had an invite in a while to check those. I've also restored the tickets for 20th-30th March on the basis of of a potential March 22nd/29th update, but I'm expecting the one that expires on the 20th will be too early and as the other three are credit rewards they won't change either way.

Edit: As I wasted these stats on a returning banned skidmark earlier, I may as well repost them here:

Roulette Ticket "Odds":

3-Star - 80% Credits (40% 5,000, 35% 10,000, 4% 100,000, 1% 500,000), 10% car, 10% part
4 Star - 53% Credits (28% 10,000, 20% 30,000, 4% 500,000, 1% 1,000,000), 20% part (10% regular, 10% special), 14% car, 10% invitation, 3% engine

My outcomes:
3-Star - 66% Credits (66% 5,000), 33% part
4-Star Excluding kept-ticket - 50% Credits (12% 10,000, 38% 30,000), 38% part (12% regular, 25% special), 12% car
4-Star Including kept-ticket - 55% Credits (11% 10,000, 33% 30,000, 11% 500,000), 33% part (11% regular, 22% special), 11% car

Not far off considering it was just single-digits of each.

Some important point on how PD might be immune to Sony layoffs:

Super GT

Current cars in game: '97 Supra GT500, '99 GT-R GT500, 3x '08 GT500s, 3x '16 GT500s, '21 BRZ GT300, '23 RC F GT3 ANEST IWATA

I am thinking of Drift Spirits getting the latest GT500 cars before anything else, honestly.

To the first bolded you would think so but there are several cars where that is clearly not the case sadly such as the Pagani Zonda R, Ferrari FXXK and Alfa Romeo 155 DTM just to name the most blatant ones and the second one I think actually applies moreso to roadcars; as many historic race cars are usually in the official museums of the automakers or in some type of public/private museum most of the time, while most roadcars tend to be privately owned unless it's a one-off case such as the Toyota GT-ONE Roadcar. For example pretty much all of the legends race cars all came from the museums of the automakers they came from.

You're right, I didn't think of legendary cars. Those must be a nightmare.
