Gran Turismo Sport: General Discussion

Is there a commonly understood code of etiquette in GT Sport races? And does it follow real-world motor racing?

For eg, I just watched Tidgney’s weekly track guide, where he complains about a driver bumping him while Tidgney was edging the other driver on the inside round a corner - the implication being the other driver should have given up the inside line. But, as I understand it, in motorsport the driver with wheels in front is entitled to hold the racing line, even if it means the undertaking driver is pushed off track. So, as I would understand it, Tidgney should have either driven off track or pulled behind the leading driver to allow him the racing line round the corner.

Tidgney presumably knows a lot about GT rules (written and unwritten), so it seems unlikely he would get this wrong.

Around 2 mins 27. It’s the Norwegian driver that goes on to try to ram him off the road and drive like a general idiot.
But that incident, Tidgney let’s him off for not noticing him, but as the car with the nose ahead, I’d have thought the Norwegian guy had every right to come into the apex and Tidgney should have pulled back or moved off track.

For reference, Scott Mansell talks about the very similar situation between Verstappen and Hamilton recently:

Ah right, that incident. I think the movement from the Norwegian half way around that corner was excessive. They had understeered wide through the corner. Either they were steering too much and when the tyres bit and the grip came back they were already steering too far right and came across Tidge. The other option is that they were purposely trying to nudge Tidge off. Either way the left kink is approaching and turning right in that manner is not the best way to take it in that situation. @Tidgney did nothing wrong. He was finding space whilst keeping as much momentum as possible. I'm sure expecting the Norwegian to come across like that was low in his expectations at the time.

The problem is that this game covers a lot of aspects of racing. Some classes like Gr4 might expect a bit of contact a la touring cars but Super Formula for example wouldn't. You touch in Super Formula and you'll end up in the barriers most of the time. But on this game stuffing it up the inside with loads of contact does nothing and the cars are fine. A divebomb isn't dirty and you see it lots of the time in racing, even F1. With control and no contact it is a valid move and when poorly executed then punishment usually follows. However a lot of divebombs on this game are different. They are aimed from too far back, too late and usually at the side of the preceding car.
It's an interesting one with the first point at the hairpin, and I'd actually argue for the most part you're right in that they were always coming back that way but to me, the turn was extreme and I'd have expected a car there if I was them going that deep. But I didn't have a massive problem with the hairpin bit mainly because carnage had just happened already and in general its Race A :P! But yes I'd agree with you for the most part with the hairpin.

My main problem is the turning right afterwards but you can see throughout the video they genuinely have a "don't care approach" about any drivers they race with, with a laps later them going off at the same point which I would assume quite confidently was another take out. You can quite quickly get a sense of somebody early on.

My time with GT Sport is ending in a few hours. Enjoyed as much as I could from March 2018 through to today. I'll just say, PD delivered with many cars in the full car list. Group C being my favourite race cars in the game. However, my most used and ultimate choices have been these cars below, as they were released. Some are dream cars I've wanted to see & use in a Gran Turismo game(E30, Fugu Z and 930T) and some are completly unexpected "Didn't see that coming?" surprises(300 SEL, Crown, Mini, Mustang "GT4", ZL1).... most of all, the Gr.4 Supra.

By far, the Gr.4 Supra was my most used after the Gr.4 Mustang. PD BOP'd it to underperform and didn't even "homologate" it for the FIA Manufacturer Series. That hurt.
I pushed myself, to prove the Supra could be competitve. For a good run, it was my buddy. Only niggling thing was, PD half baking the model with no race interior. These are the people that specialise on car details and with Toyota as partner... no interior? On the actual car that competed in the Nurb24? pfft.

Bugged me so much, I didn't care to delete it each time I restarted a new game. I prefer interior view and it was killing me. Now, I'm more than happy it returns for GT7(better have the dang interior this time!). Had my fun with it making liveries and being the underdog in every race. Can't wait to drive it properly, hopefully in FIA and enjoy watching it in many replays(makes me seem like a little kid ;) ). Should be worth the six month wait.

Peace, GT Sport.

So last OZ race this year, still got some NZ Porsche though, bad 1st Q and second ruined by a slow guy who had went off and I had been purple for 3 sectors so 10th rather than somewhere near the front. Just took it easy as tyres are the issue and made a couple of places before the pits. Most went in on 9 and I left it till 10 and when it had settled I was in 5th. Caught and passed 4th at 15 and now 3rd is around 8 secs in front, but I'm sure he pitted on 6 and had softs (he was too far back coming out to tell what he changed to) so he has bad tyres by now or a harder compound. I'm much quicker and catch him at end of 18, pass and muck up first corner, still I'm right on his tail and next time I pass on the straight and can take 1st corner normally. Nice podium to round off the season, hopefully I can repeat that later as well.

So anyone racing this week will see one of the things the last update did. Murray's corner is now sponsored by Pedigree dog food.

If you are referring to Bathurst, that's been there since the game came out:

Dumb question time:
What does the flashing of headlights mean during a race?

I do it because I want the other racer ahead of me to know the line he is taking I will not challenge him to it, am I wrong?

In my experience it’s mainly used in GTS by folk who want to be blocked or punted. It also seems to be used by folks who have also suffered the foregoing. 🤫

The lights is a indicator that you need to let me pass
If someone behind me is flashing their lights I am doing my best to prevent them from passing me.
Flashing with lights are for multi class racing, for a safe pass of a slower class.
Now most people that flash in GTS are using the default set-up where the flash is at the left stick so if you push down on it while driving it flashes.
But if the flash on straights I know it's on pirpose

Another PS breach of blah blah regulations warning, so I try and contact them to find out what I'm supposed to have done and can't get anyone to complain to. What a great system they have to protect us.
Step:
  1. Warn someone, but don't tell them what they have done
  2. Make it impossible to contact support
  3. Eventually it will be a ban as that's the second one and I still have no idea what I'm supposed to have done.

What you've done is:

  • Used offensive language in the post-race chat
  • Created a livery/decal employing offensive language or imagery

That pretty much covers it. It's moderated by humans and of course they can make mistakes - such as the chap with the KKK Turbolader decal which we kinda got overturned; the humans are Sony moderators, not GT Sport specialists and won't have that depth of knowledge - but that's the whole thing right there.

There's no way to appeal it directly, but then there's not much chance of you being pinged for not breaking the rules either (the KKK decal being a wild edge case). The last guy who protested he'd not done anything wrong turned out to have the Confederate flag (well, the one everyone calls that at any rate) on his car...

Has anyone noticed the anomalies concerning Special Stage Route X? Let me point out a few...
A) it's in a desert environment with a deep water port facility?
B) there it's also an airport, with only one runway and it seems to be jointly operated by commercial and military (military cargo transports are visible)
C) there is a large array of deep space satellite dishes adjacent to this airport, which either will interrupt any reception because of air traffic in area, or cause navigation errors in aircraft in flight.
D) because of airport and shipping port, where it's the city that is ususally to be close by?
E) the control tower(s) for the airport do not have any green/ white beacon identifying there is an airport there, even military airfields are required to have these beacons.
F) too many high towers of sort are too close to airport, wind powered generators cannot be close to airports for safety reasons.
G) there is a marina in the area, but no city or town near for people to live.

I could find more if I try to really dig but I thought this will get some explanations...

Desert towns with manmade lakes nearby is common. And workers may be commuting by air.

The airport is most likely private. These sort of of setups are common for Super Villain lairs.

The satellite dishes are for Wi-fi. They may need to add more.

It's a little creepy, but beautiful as well, it gives me Death Stranding vibes tbh.

I don't think there's any deep thought or research behind the design choices, just a bunch of disjointed ideas. "A runway here would look cool", "the surroundings are bit too barren, let's put in some windmills and satellites. Those things are in deserts, right?", "water looks good with our lighting engine, let's get that in there too".

The idea behind SSRX is you're there to drive flat out as fast as possible, and the background scenery should all just be a bit of a blur. If you're taking in the scenery, you're not driving fast enough... ;)

In all honesty though, it's probably just a random mix of things they felt would work in big open spaces, which help to fill some of the immense space this circuit occupies. There's always going to be inconsistencies when you get a bunch of game creators who work on racing games and ask them to create an enormous environment and fill it with things that make the environment feel like it's a place, not just a space. Loads of the PD-original tracks have elements which wouldn't work in reality, like the pit locations being inside the circuits with no access roads under/over the circuits, for example.

Random Question Alert.

Does anyone know if there's a practical way to communicate with someone who's followed you through the GT Community site? I suppose I could send a friend request through PSN, but is there a simpler way to contact them?

EDIT: Just discovered the PSN app, and did a friend request/message through there.

SOLVED!
