I've been taking a look at the photographs on your website, very talented indeed.

It sort of goes along with the handicapping, in that some cars will be trickier to drive and race with. Although some may like that!
What's this website?

I think it's a good idea with the aids, I enjoy the process of adapting to different cars. Not on the fly so much like last night! But where you have a week to get some practice sessions in, that's good. Learning yesterday that we can in fact adjust some things like aids, brake balance and anti roll bars on the fly also adds to the incentive to spend a bit of time tweaking and preparing for the races.

I wondered how you found them! thought you were some sort of cyber hacker on the side, then realised where the link was !! Any shameless promotion helps.
Thanks for that though.

Its in my profile Joe. All 'looks' appreciated, makes Google think im popular!

I think if I started tweaking those they'd turn into make it roll bars. ☺

What you been looking at @IfAndOr is @Pantheons in the same line of work as @Hun200kmh ???
No. Nobody is in the same line of work as Mario. Very specialised. 😉

It would have been much easier from your profile if I'd have looked there 1st, but actually it was from your avatar. I zoomed in to see what the writing said and worked from there. So there was a bit of Google searching. 👍

I particularly liked this from your latest shots, very atmospheric. Hope you don't mind me posting it? I'll delete it if you want.

Yes I am. It gives me something to do between organising races. I came across the group The Crap Shags recently @richroo. Teenage Kicks anyone? :mischievous:

Just trying to make my internet more consistent for gaming

Tried this, didnt help much, now being sent back to amazon, handy having 30 days to send stuff back for free.

Just ordered these. I tried powerlines 5 years ago, but different brand, and kept losing connection every few days was annoying so gave up with them. Hope this is better. 3 ports is handy (for TV (Netflix AP), PVR, PS4)

I used to use power line adaptors (Comtrend) to give a connection to my PS3 for online racing. They were very good, I didn't have any problems. Now I've moved my router near to the PS4 they are used the other way around in providing a connection to my streaming box by the TV, again without problems.

I'm OK, it's a bungalow, but in houses you do have to make sure the plugs you use are on the same ring main. Also it's recommended to plug them directly into a wall socket, not an extension lead - particularly a surge protection one.

It's useful to have those with a through port. It frees up the sockets again.

Thanks, I read that they should work on different ring mains that meet at the same distribution board, BUT, not as well as if on the same ring, and if you have RCD's on the main board (as I do) that will probably cause issues across ring mains (as do extension leads with surge protection). Well, at least I can try it out. Typical, I need the best internet speeds at the opposite ends of the house (Bottom left room (Lounge, and where the BT wire comes in), and top right room (office) . I need a smaller castle!!

Fantastic picture Simon, tell us the story, how did you manage to get so close?

Last night I met up with raeggee and we kept switching between cars. For some reason raeggee doesn't have the Panoz available, I know it is a DLC car but I was under the impression he had all DLCs available to him (I know he has Le Mans Classic and other content, is it possible that he needs to install/activate this particular car?)

We kept switching between cars, from a limited run with each I'd say they all have strengths and weaknesses but I found the McLaren to be, by far, the most difficult to drive. I think its the excessive engine braking issue but whatever it is, the consequence is that it's really difficult to correct mid corner if you need to slow down. If you lift the throttle you're gone, and this may happen just because the car in front slowed more than you were expecting. A difficult car alone on track, a VERY difficult car when racing in close proximity.

Thank you. I wore my deer costume and mingled amongst the heard for a few days to gain their confidence (would be a good story). But in reality a long lens and sitting quietly in a bush for a couple of hours with a flask of tea and some toast usually does it, if you are lucky. The fun part of that is having to get there when its dark before sun up, and hope there isn't a poacher trying to bag a deer for the BBQ.

That was the first car I tried (on loose!!) and nearly made me cry.

Have you tried raising the drawbridge? It might help keep the signal inside. :)

I'd be more concerned if you were wearing your deer costume!

The Panoz is part of the 4 car Motorsport pack that comes with the season pass. If raeggee bought the season pass or the deluxe version of PC2 he should be able to download the Motorsport pack. If however he bought the various DLCs separately he won't have it. He can still join in I believe but won't be able to use the Panoz. However - I'm not sure what he'll see on track if someone is using the Panoz? Perhaps you could try that out?

As you can see from my video, I like the McLaren! :dopey:

@Hun200kmh - If you haven't seen his website here's some more of Simon's landscape and wildlife photography HERE

Fantastic pictures Simon! All are great, but some of the wildlife ones are breathtaking, I guess I enjoy pictures where the subject (animal or human) doesn't know or doesn't care about the camera. Did some digging and found your UFO section very funny! :D

Sorely missing ... a motorsports section :mischievous: ! Time to visit the track nearest to you and catch the ambiance, even if it's only for the council championship of heavily tuned Reliant Robins ;)

EDIT - Paul, raeggee sees the Panoz on track. However the car doesn't show up in the GT1 roster when he wants to select the car to use. I'm a few hundred miles away from him now, maybe I'll ask Ricardo (RPrego) to pay him a visit and find out if it's only a question of installing this particular add-on or if indeed he needs to buy it.

Might be worth a try since he may have the pack and not realise.

The easiest way to see is to hover over the PC2 icon, them tap down to the bottom of the screen that appears to PlayStation™Store.

Then tap to the right to Your Add-Ons. Press X and that will open a list of what you have. If it's shown just click on the arrow to install.

If he hasn't got it on that list I'm not sure if it can be bought separately.

You didn't see these then. ;)

No I did not, I lack your "webPoirot" skills :D

But yes, now I looked a litle better and I did see great pictures with subjects/objects I also love, like cars, bikes, planes, boats.

However ... I will suggest a Morgan section :P . They do make great pictures, and I won't resist to share here my all-time favourite (and I have many, believe me)

Morgan-Three-Wheeler.jpg

So, Simon, look out for a Morgan (or two) in your area and use it to enhance your portfolio. Next to the Avro Lancaster maybe ;)

So, Simon, look out for a Morgan (or two)
Great shot!, Morgan yes please. Yes, I have some vague plans to visit some tracks with some friends, but there are only so many hours in a day. Those two of my racing shots there, I was on the inside of a dirt oval track, prior permission from the owner, as long as I didn't kill myself because he doesn't like paperwork. I did go to Goodwood festival of speed once, fabulous day, 1 day not enough time though to see it all. I suggest you would all love it, Maybe we should all meet up there, one day. eh eh

Paul, thank you for the visual guide on how to check DLC content. Turns out raeggee had everything but for some reason the "motorsports bonus pack" was purchased and downloaded but ... not installed. Problem solved, he can now race with all 7 cars! 👍

Had a few runs again tonight with raeggee, I find the cars become very different with even the slightiest variation in track temperature. This time I insisted in using the F50. Despite being a "no assists" car, it is very fast and very driveable, well balanced and transitioning smoothly between understeer and oversteer. However, all it took was a change from the hour of practise to hour of race to totally change the car's behaviour, it almost looked like a different car needing different inputs to keep it pointed in the right direction.

raeggee left soon and since no one else was online I went to Time Trial to see how this car fared in TT conditions. And I found out that 1 PM April is better than 10 AM October. A LOT better, I did get a time that I wouldn't dream (and never got even close) to do in the lobby I had just closed.

In any case I don't find TTing to be really relevant here, in TT you don't have traffic around you and (ideally) you don't do course corrections, neither do you perform emergency braking/avoiding/swerving because of other cars. And to do it without crashing/spinning is what will be needed.

Should be fun! :D

So my impression of the cars after trying them out, I am by no means quick but these are my thoughts about them in my hands.:

Porsche 911 GT1-98: Its abit skiddish, not impossible to drive but not exactly the most stable either. High speed corners it excels, but low speed corners tend to be the main obstacle.

Mercedes CLK LM: One of my favorite cars to drive so far, all that power and yet its somehow still composed. One of only two cars that I feel I can attack ANY corner with and feel comfortable doing it.

Panoz Esperante GTR-1: While not as planted as the Merc, its surprisingly not difficult either. It is abit happy in the rear, but it thankfully feels far more catchable then some of the other cars.

Mclaren F1 GTR LT: Its a car that slots in between the snappy nature of the Porsche and the good handling of the Mercedes. Rear is abit lively but apart from that it's fairly decent.

Ferrari F50 GT: Second favorite of mine to drive, its shocking how good it is considering how on appearance alone it feels like its completely out of its depth in comparison to the other cars. I would argue it might be the only car that can compete with the Mercedes in terms of just being able to point the car where you want it when you want it.

Toyota GT-One '98: Its an interesting one. It's hard to handle especially in the tighter sections but yet it can actually match the pace of Merc (as it did in real life). Its a car that seems to require very fine precision to get the most out of. Get it wrong and you're just too slow, get it right and you are definately gonna be fighting with the Merc.

Nissan R390 GT1: Somewhat in the same boat as the GT-One, but to a worse extent. While the Toyota is at most abit of an understeer prone car, this feels like it's both understeer and oversteer prone (The absolute worst combo to have). Not really sure it could be as competitive as it feels like it needs by far the most management in general just to keep it on track with how much it both keeps you guessing as well you consistantly having to be on alert with how it reacts to even the tiniest input.

So it seems your return to PC2 when using a wheel was a good experience then? :)

I think most would agree with your findings. You may have already done so, but don't forget that you can select either of the default setups, loose or stable, they can make a difference to how the cars behave.

If you're still interested I'll add you to the reserve list. I'm still not entirely sure how many are racing, but as I've said there can often be a space available.

I have a similar problem
I think Beachboy had a similar problem and got around it by running an extension lead plugged into the router circuit out to his shed and then plugging the other power line adaptor into that. Not the neatest solution but it worked.

Simon, let us know how you get on
So far, not good!. The TP link powerlines work fine(tested in the same double sockets, full speed, big downloads consistent)
Across ring mains, works, but downloads drop out (sort of as expected).
On the same ring main, various sockets, Downloading 4Gb+files for test consistancy, nice and fast, but still getting drop outs, so the files just doesn't finish downloading, tried various sites with large files (although the internet still works.)
This is one site for test files, best to try various ones.

Tomorrow
1. will test big file downloads directly plugged into router, to make sure its not my internet having an issue, but unlikely as initial test was fine.
2. Will open up the sockets and check its wired properly, earthed etc.
If all else doesn't work, will send the powerlines back.

Ive obviously got the wrong type of house!!

Please do, I am very interested in this.

As you should know i use the power adapter lan on a extension lead to my shed ! i am running a caravan hook up lead from the cooker outlet so i get 40amp supply ... might fluctuate abit but always been able to race .. i get 46mb 17mb avarage..

Very good @Pantheons Bulletproof vest for xmas ! lol
i see this pic of you after you took the photo!

Oh deer.!! ive been rumbled gov.

@richroo
"i am running a caravan hook up lead from the cooker outlet so i get 40amp supply"
Im not an electrician, but I dont think that configuration was in the "GCSE home electrics" module, just dont turn on the cooker AND the shed at the same time.

Internet update:
I was asked to feedback, I know its not really the right forum, but ill keep it brief.
Well, I'll never get those 3 hours of my life back!! the powerlines were ****.
In no configuration would they download a large file before it dropped connection for a split second. So downloads would fail.
With live TPlink support chat help, it turns out the TP link software to configure the adaptors doesn't work on a newer Mac (M1)!! So you cant update the firmware, turn off power saving etc etc.
So they are going back!
Now moved the router downstairs, and running a flat 7m network cable under hallway rug from router to PS4, not pretty but see how that goes for a bit. I get 35mb down and about 7mb up, which is the max under my Vodafone contract, cant complain for £22 a month
"Every year we evolve, technology still continues to relatively suck."

I know they are going back but actually that shouldn't be a problem under normal circumstances, with buffering and requesting data packets again it's how most WiFi networks operate, they rarely have a constant connection. You don't notice it because it's all done in the background.

Racing games transfer very little data between the players/server so don't need high throughput, way less than 10Mbit generally. They do work best however with an uninterrupted connection to transmit and receive positional data. That's also sort of tied into lower ping times too, the faster the PS4s can "talk" to each other the better.

It's a shame we couldn't have tried them out online in a race, they might have worked OK. Maybe better than WiFi anyway. Your direct connection should be great though.

Mine runs at about a 35 / 7 speed also. And the PS4 is only ¼ metre away from the router!

It's my thread and I don't mind us discussing it, it's sort of racing related. And we've not started the championship yet anyway. So carry on. 👍 :)

@RACECAR I enjoyed your commentary on the cars and had similar experiences with them myself. Curious about your comments on the Ferrari - how come you thought it wouldn't hold up to the others, on initial appearances? @Pantheons after you said it sounded like a scalextric I'm struggling to take it seriously .

@IfAndOr did you have any more thoughts about this interim session on Monday; more GT1 practice, or testing the teams idea perhaps?
