I will try some Kyoto races today. Tried some different cars for quali laps yesterday. In my opinion the NSX is no less twitchy than the Lambo, especially in the chicane. But this could also be due to the fact I am more used to the Lambo. If I can more or less match my Lambo quali time with the G70, I might try that in races because I find it generally stable. Also tried the Megane shortly, but I don't have the time to really get to know the Megane or NSX in order to drive them better. Actually the Lambo is not too bad when you handle the brakes with care before the high-speed left handers.

Last week was a blast in Atlanta, and I climbed to mid DR-B. Most of the time, the following week I drop back to low DR-B or high DR-C. However, it turned out I could maintain and even improve on Kyoto (with the Lambo). Now I'm reaching high DR-B, with DR-A in sight. The question is: double luck with the circuits, or am I really improving? Time will tell...

Did some Kyoto races today, wasn't disappointed. QT of 1:41:2x started me midpack most of the time. Had a podium finish after starting 5th and defending a 3th place for 3 laps or something. First time that I pull something like that off. Normally I always make a tiny mistake somewhere, or just don't close up the inside of a corner enough so someone can push through.

Also had a nice 4th place after getting hit and having to drive back from P9. Both of these races were packed with very close racing, and people that have the awareness to actually brake on time if they see that 5 other cars in front also have to make the chicane. Both races were full of DR B drivers

I also had two mixed DR A / DR B lobbies. I had to drive my ass off for 11th / 12th places finished hehe. But this was still nice.

Somewhat later in the afternoon I encountered some dirty drivers (maybe kids that get off from school?). Some people were just clearly driving into each other, and calling each other out in the chat. At some point someone just ran into me on the straight while I didn't do anything wrong to him / her before that moment. This was the cue to go do something else with my day. Maybe tomorrow some new chances! DR wise I think I gained slightly (5 or 6 top 8 finishes, a 10th and two times 13th).

I've thrown away 8 poles this week in the NSX.

This is why I'm a B driver and not A sigh.

The racing is mostly fine, the Lambo is a tricky car on this circuit so you see lots of weird lines and braking patterns and lots of drifting and running wide with it. Mostly I think they are being over driven more that dirty, what doesn't help me is the NSX brakes amazingly compared to the Lambo and those following me try to brake when I brake and that's about 200 yards too late for them.

And when they do get it stopped they literally have no traction for half a second

I actually improved my QT time in the NSX today, and 100% @newmedia_dev on the overdriving thing as I think I do this myself,

On the corners I hit properly and brake correctly in and apply slow throttle too earlier, it’s certainly faster.

I do love this track though. Struggling to get the NSX through the chicane at times but it’s much smoother overall.

First day of pushing the envelope at Kyoto. I went down to an 1:40.310, so I'm halfway there.
The track is basically new to me (I did "race" there only if mandatory in single player). I can maybe shave one more tenth from T1-T2, but there's still lot to do in T3 and 4. Tomorrow I'll try the 2nd esses in 4th. I noticed that switching from 3rd to 4th in the first esses gave me both, a lot of time and car's stability. There's way less pivoting hitting the curbs. Why not try that at last esses also? And yes, the Huracan seems always on the edge, ready to bite.

Guys, I'm trying to understand more deeply some "practical rules". Can anyone tell me who's to blame here? I tried to avoid contact on turn 1 and could have been closer to the left apex on turn 2, but I think the other guys just turned too hard into me. Any thoughts so I can learn a little? He didn't properly check the radar? We were both AS. Thanks!

I'm missing out on all the fun, I'm so amd I had to cancel my PS plus subscription. I spent too much eating out the past 3 months. I'm a fan of the NSX though.

I improved my B QT a bit more to a 1.40.317 which put me top 1300 global. I’d love to figure out how to get into the 1:39s though..

With that I had grid starts around 3rd and finished with two 3rds and one 2nd over three excellent races.

The last was so close and I led for several laps but for a second race, the same guy in an Audi TT was able to get past on turn 1, when for two races I pushed a smidge too much and went wide.

Regardless that last race pushed me over the boundary and I’m back to DR A for the first time in VR. Oh lord, help me now! :D

If you are unsure, also watch it from the other car's camera view so you can see it from their perspective. But this doesn't really look like your fault I think (but I'm no expert). You were in front during T1 and you gave him loads of space.

A sidenote from this: Can you easily cut a video when you upload it on Youtube? Then I can maybe try to upload some situations whenever I encounter them. Feels like overkill to just upload the whole race when you only want to show a fragment.

To make it ontopic: Couldn't resist and did 1 one Kyoto race yesterday evening. Best result up until now. I started 4th and finished 2nd. The leader was way way beyond everyone. We were battling for scraps with one guy (who was quite fast) driving super aggressively, blocking others and at one point tried to take me and someone else out of turn 1. He missed us and went wide himself. Too bad he finished just behind me in P3 and didn't completely ruin it for himself. So nice to have a 2nd place, but it could've gone all wrong because of people who lack love or something.

You were clearly inside (almost in front) entering the corner, then (due to different lines) he basically "lost you" (I'm assuming he's not using the radar) from his "automatic spotter" (that shadows that appear when somebody is side by side with you, i mean). He then cut the corner like you weren't there, so either he was intentionally doing this (highly risking to be sent out) or he just thought he was way more in front than he actually was, leading to an avoidable racing incident, but still being in good faith.
I agree on looking from his point of view, from inside camera (you'll see his steering time and angle compared to previous laps) and from outside the car.

It looks like he thought he was ahead enough and took the racing line.

Just a racing incident, he was aggressive taking the normal line. You could have backed out a little in hindsight especially being on the outside for the next corner which is almost impossible to go round the outside on that sweeping right hander.

I wouldn't worry about it, it happens.

I had a lot of this yesterday. I got lulled into a false sense of security, as Tuesday's races were clean and I had some great dices with other drivers!

I think the fact that I (as usual) am driving the wrong car (G70) - nearly everybody else is driving the Huracan, and they don't like being passed.....

Thank you all for the replies! I didn't thought about checking his view. I'll do that next time. Btw, which camera do you all use when racing online? I always use that one upon the hood.

I really left a lot of space because on controller I prefer to play safe and avoid screwing someone else's race, which can easily happen when taking corners side by side. Sometimes I go more agressively, but other times I just give space to avoid battling with the little joystick.

And yes, you can easily upload a video just from a cut. Just pause the replay where the cut would start, then press share button and the middle option (in english it must be something line "start screen recording"). Back to replay, let it roll until the point you want and then just go to share button and stop screen recording. Fresh cut's ready for YT upload! 🙌

A prime example here what you can get away without penalty currently. Apparently that is not "pushing another off the track". Well to be fair I kind of drove off the track after he turned me sideways. 🤷 Im once again not surpriced of the flag on top of that GT-R. Is this something they teach (that its ok) in schools down there? Thats why i call them "spanish kisses".. can be expected 90% of the time if that flag is near.

Seems like an accident. The Renault jumps so erratically to left that its either lag or controller..

I think my best time for Race B is about 1:41.6xx, but I’m still qualifying towards the back. I wonder if I can find another second or so?
If you happen to find that second, please do share it's hiding spot.😁

Feel completely deflated this week and have done next to no racing at all....maybe that's the problem with my mood, lol. Tried some laps at Yamigawa but am really struggling to get into it. It feels slow to begin with (sorry, too much Gr.3 lately) and the times I'm hittin' reflect that...slow. Trophy, Mustang, Veyron, F-Type, Viper matters not. Whatever machinery I choose, I find a way to weave incompetence into the lap, lol.

Guess I should try some more before I chuck this week into the memory hole. In reviewing, doesn't look like I've thrown the WRX at it yet.🤣

Yeah, I’m just not sure if I’ll find it, and I’m so used to doing relatively well in Race A. Could it be that the competition is stiffer for races B and C because they can affect your DR? I swear that in the three races I did for Race B yesterday, nearly half the field had DR A.

Most time to be had is in the left, right, left at the bottom of the hill. You can straight line that when you get it right. Use ALL the curbs. Right wheels on the left handed, left wheels on the right hand and then right wheels on the second left hand.

I turn in on 3rd gear and usually shift to 4 th just before hitting the second left turn.

This is a lot easier to judge in VR. I could never get it right in bumper cam view as you lose the positional awareness of the car for such balanced driving. At least that is what I found.

This place is awesome...just needed to be said again.👍

Thank you for the insight @TheNormsk and will keep in mind when turning some laps later. Think you're right, too...I rarely hit that section the same way twice. Time to correct that.

@MIE1992 Yes, the races will be much more 'elbows out' when DR is thrown in. People chill-out exponentially when they don't have to worry about their rank, lol.

I have one more question to all of you: in the current daily C race (or other similar), do you change tyres? Or just pit and cancel everything?

About my video, I agree, that's possible. The Renault behaved way too strange.

About your video, that was either very dirty or the third contender bumped him into you. The game could really use some improvements to punish dirty side-pushing or leaning on turns, as well as some new physics to make the "victim" less screwed. Usually it takes one silly incident (one dirty or bad or sleepy man) to throw away a whole race, specially the daily C races, because it usually becomes wasted precious time of the day.

I've been watching a few VR replays on YT and definitely think that it's a much better way to position the car (micro corrections, coasting better)

But one thing that struck me from watching the replays is the sense of speed is so so different to my bumper cam, does it feel "slower" ie you have more time in VR?

Both strategies works this week.
If you get stuck in a traffic jam early in the race with slower cars ahead, the best strategy is to pit inmediatly (no tyre change) to get some clean air.

If you have a similar pace with the rest of the pack, I preffer to change tyres at the middle of the race because Im not very good saving tyres.
It also depends on what car are you racing and your driving style.
The RS01 can make a stint of 10 laps in a much better shape that the 911 for example.

I would say that it feels less frenetic. Perhaps it does feel slower but as you perceive you have more time to plan and position, but obviously it is not slower; I'm driving as fast or faster than I was in my 2D days. But the way the world is presented around you in a 1:1 viewport rather than a small telly screen, gives your brain the depth perception and I think the speed to react that you don't get in 2d.

Watching YT replays doesn't do it justice.

EDIT:

On a slightly different subject I watched this video

earlier in the week and made changes to my controller settings that appeared to improve my driving of the Huracàn as well. The video has a super annoying AI voice and generated clips but in short:

  1. Switch vibration off
  2. Set controller steering sensitivity to 10
  3. Set force feedback sensitive to 1
  4. and for my DD GT Pro at 8NM with a 330mm RS wheel I run max torque at 7.
I also upped my brake force settings for my V2 pedals from 65 to 70 so I reduced the chance of over powering the brakes and sliding out. As to the actual wheel settings I left those as-is as I pretty much love them. May not be the most sensitive settings but they feel realistic to me and I'm used to them. Happy to share later if anyone is interested (though I know wheel settings are very personal preferences).
