Replay Checking:

  1. It is customary for all participants of the WRS to verify each others submitted replays
  2. Once you have checked the replay, post in this thread to say that you have checked it and whether it's clean, dirty or doesn't meet the required race specifications
  3. When verifying a replay, check against this weeks race specification, check that the tyres are the correct compound and that the power and weight is correct for example
  4. If you are unsure about a replay, always seek a second opinion before posting

Since the other thread is closed...I'll respond to Dragonwhisky here. Thanks for the post.

I agree 100%, the old adage about "perfect practice" - I am not practing perfectly. I tried to find any videos online of fast laps but with different cars it's impossible to compare.

I'm looking forward to downloading and studying some laps when I get home later this week.

Interesting lap data, I'm sure I had a very similar curve but mine flattened out and stayed at 2:13.xx since I wasn't doing anything different from lap to lap, just some were a bit cleaner than others.

If it were easy it wouldn't be fun!

You could start with checking the replays of the fastest guys. And when you do,check how they use the whole track at maximum width.
Check the interior view of them and notice how little (and early) they make steering movements.
Use a replay and load it as a ghost.I allways use it and it made me faster after all those years (except this week :lol:)
It's allways tricky when tuning is involved like this week.I checked your replay and I think you shortenend gear 1 to 4 and streched 5 and 6.
Despite that I see you runnin' first corner and last chicane entirely in first gear. The third corner in second sector you're in second gear (not good)
I think you'll be suprised when you shift early to next gear.Cars with this amount of torque will pick up before the red line in revs.
But it's like youi sad,if it was easy it wouldn't be fun.Good luck with the learning process

I'm curious why my lap showed up as requiring review?

There's philosophical post brewing about the whole "perfect practice" thing but, no way I'm doing it from my phone and work netsec is blocking gtp these days. Will have more tonight or tomorrow on this.

Perhaps you're up for a promotion :).

Congratulations to all podium finishers. Some absolute insanely fast times out there .

Haven't had a negative handicap since I got promoted to d1b. Don't see how this one would get me promoted but I'll take it if it does.

Apologies @nascarfan1400, your lap wasn't included in the results, but I've edited them now to include it. @Vaxen is on vacation for a couple weeks, so I'll be doing the Unofficial results threads, but all promotions and rookie division placements will have to wait until he returns.
It's all good, thank you for the quick correction! ^-^ I made D1 so I am pleased.

It's my belief the phrase "perfect practice" is much like that word "multi-task" in that both are made up by coaches and management types to get more out of their subordinates for nothing. The only thing the human body truly multi-tasks is autonomous functions. Breathing, heartbeat etc. Everything else is multi-switching. The faster you do it the more it looks like you're doing multiple things at the same time, but it's not really multi-tasking. As one example, you can check out how some doctors are trying to "multi-task" (although their management types are labeling it "concurrent") for bucks and not doing it well here, here and here.

Trying to practice perfectly is an exercise in futility. You don't learn nuthin' from perfection and if you ain't learnin' from yer mistakes, well, you might think of picking another endeavor. Of course, learning from mistakes only follows identifying a mistake as such, determining the root cause and deciding on corrective action. Then, testing that corrective action to see if the mistake is rectified and the results are an improvement. Once you're doing a thing as best as you can, which only you can decide when that is, and it becomes an autonomous response to stimuli, otherwise known as "second nature", you can focus on the next thing that you want to do better. Once a particular action becomes second nature, identifying when you performed that action poorly is practically instantaneous and you already know what needs to be done to correct it.

There's also the 10,000 hour theory. What it boils down to is until you've done a thing for those 10,000 hours you cannot be considered an "expert". That's about 5 years of 40 hour weeks. Of course, expert could be another term for a former drip. Having natural talent, aka alien, certainly helps this time factor but, lacking otherworldly characteristics, time served is the only other way to get there. So, @ontherivet don't sweat it if you're missing 4 seconds. If you want 'em, put in the time and you'll get 'em. Keep raping replays and studying them. Hell, I used to fall asleep watching replays of other players. Wake up and watch some more then go emulate them. I've spent more time watching fast than I ever will being fast. When one of those aliens posts a tune, use it. Don't fiddle with it much either. They know what they're doing. Besides this combo being at Spa, which is almost certainly the track I'm at my best at, the tuning generosity of a few of those aliens is the only reason I even ran it. If this car and tuning had been at any other track I probably would've skipped it.

Don't sweat the mistakes. When you make 'em, do it differently next time. Omelettes man. Omelettes. Or lemonade. Or whatever. WD40 maybe.

Thanks for your thoughts, very much taken to heart. I'm not looking for shortcuts, don't get me wrong, I want to learn. I'm grateful my 4 year old inspired me to dust off my PS3 and DFGT and I'm thrilled I found something beyond bumper cars for gold cups and 100k credits a race. I'm not a young man and for nights when I'm not taking pictures of stars, this is a lot of fun. I'll be doing lots of studying.

Rikson, thanks for reviewing my lap and for the feedback. I thought I had stretched all the gears just a bit over the Mcsq tune; I guess I jacked something up along the way. I should have left well enough alone as I ain't no tuner.

Curious, what's the best way to determine ideal shift points? I don't believe the power curve on the tuning screen has any #s. Also, are folks using any TCS or ABS? I've been running both at 1. I recall reading somewhere that having any ABS changes the way some of the suspention settings behave?

It has also been said that it is braking and stability assist. Suspension makes sense as karts do not have suspension nor an ABS setting.

If you don't mind me giving my 2 cents :nervous:. As for it being a stability aid, I have no definitive view. It is true that the higher the ABS setting, the better chance you have to hold the brake on harder further into the corners. So I suppose you could call it that...in a way :dopey:.

But from my experimenting there are absolutely signs that it can limit the suspension movements. This is of course dependent on the brake setting used.
If the brakes are set too high for the tyres and the ABS has to work hard. The system basically cuts braking force for a small moment to stop the wheels locking, then reapplies the force. If the brakes are very high this process repeats until either you let of the brake or until it can operate them without locking. During this period of cutting the force and re-application, the suspension will react if even only slightly. So the front suspension will compress as usual until the ABS cuts the braking force then it will extend very slightly and when it reapplies the force the compression will resume. This will potentially limit the suspension travel and stop full compression occurring. There will be a similar effect on the rear extension also.

In saying that, I normally use ABS for the WRS events (because I'm far enough behind as it is :lol:) and focus on finding a BB that will limit how much the system has to work (usually a fairly big rear bias with low front settings), so I can allow as much free movement of the suspension as possible. The best way I find being to set ABS off and set the BB, then turning ABS back on and then adding single digit increases until I feel the handling changes then go back to the setting before it got worse.

Do not take this as gospel though, that's just what I have found through testing on track and analysing the datalogger, others may have different experiences :).

Craig .

Congrats to all podium finishers, well done 👍

Thanks for checking @Rikson 👍

I only use ABS on 1 and no TCS, that will kill your acceleration.

About the gears, the usual tranny trick will do the job for 99%. Some fine tuning will help you in the end just a little. With all respect to the lower division drivers (what i was too one day, started out in D3G) the right lines and good exit speed gone bring you much much more in the beginning, like @Rikson explained. That's what WRS is really good for specially because it's mainly no tuning events.

One tip start entering the corners slower than you need and focus on your exit, once you nail the exit try to brake a bit later and later and later, till you reach the limit without suffering the exit.

21 submissions is awesome for this stage of the game, thanks to everyone who gave this a go :D

Here's my lap, couple little mistakes at the end of T2 but was pretty happy overall for the time I spent on it.

Very nice lap @mcsqueegy, quite insane how you can take those corners.

Here is my best lap on the controller:

Enjoy!
Awesome laps guys . Very educational .

If I could ask though. Do you guys drive from those views too? Or are they only selected for replay purposes to show the lines better?
