GTPlanet.net Virtual Stock Exchange Competition!

I'll correct it.

But before I do that, I just want to let everyone know this --

I've cashed out on my first trade! :D :sly:

My balance is now $3,012.29 -- all cash.

This continues for a year, right?

I'm not sure if that short-term startegy is going to serve you well, MarketMaker...

I made a dollar today!

Superb 👍

woot!

I lost a about $27 today .. but thats only because of trade commissions. I would have made $0.65 otherwise.

Could someone give me a breakdown of how I've done in my previous post. I'm unsure about how much I've actually made.

Total equity = Cash + the value of your stocks
Cash = the amount of cash left in your account
Total Return = percentage increase/decrease since the day you started
Today's Return = percentage increase/decrease for the day
Margin = amount of money you've spent on margin (credit)

You bought 100 shares of Applied Materials and the stock price went up $0.08 from where you bought it -- you have 100 shares so that's an $8.00 gain. The commission (what you pay to make a purchase/sell) is set to $7.00. So you've realized a gain of $8-7 or $1.00. But you didn't actually sell the stocks yet, so these "gains" are only on paper.

I sold my stocks, so I have "realized" an actual gain.

I see.

I'm actually looking forward to tomorrow.

Cool! Glad you decided to participate! :)

I just realized something:

Once in your portfolio, if you go to "Rankings" you'll see the last trading day's rank. So that means tomorrow, we should see how well everyone did today (and so on...).

I signed up and my orders will be places on the opening bell tomarrow. I think I will own you all :D. Ok maybe not but I think I will do quite good.

I've played the market for years and made some good money at it. I'm starting to sell of some stocks now though and putting the money into a mutaul fund. Seems like the better way to go right now.

Possibly... I've stopped trading altogether [for now] but for other reasons. I will resume during the summer. :)

Gah, my NVidia stock lost me 15 dollars. Hopefully the markets will be kinder to me tomorrow.

The simplest way to fix that is by investing in the competitor: ATI.

[edit] how do I lose $32 between Sony and Microsoft? Reeeeeetawded.

Heh, I was thinking of doing that, but with the way the graphics card race is going now, investing in eother company isn't too bad a plan. I decided to go with nVidia since they have a stronger high end card now, but as I said, the race could go either way, so it should make for some interesting trading!

I bought 25 shares of AMD, so you guys better start building computers and lots of 'em.
I'm putting most of my money on the idea that VoIP is going to be the next big thing...so it had better be.

how do you find the little companies?

so far, i've invested in Clear channel communications, because they own like a million radio stations here (i think), and they are doing pretty well.

[offtopic] nothing like investing to the sounds of Tokyo Breakfast, and the *****h family.

"Good morning, *****h."
"Good morning to YOU, *****aaaaah!"

I figured that EA and Apple would be decent investments. EA with their current binge on trying to monopolize the industry, and Apple for being Apple. Unfortunately, I've lost $30 on the two together within 20 minutes :irked:. Hopefully tomorrow

I own stock in EA in real life. 💡 Good pick -- but I bought in at a much lower price. :sly:
