GTPlanet.net Virtual Stock Exchange Competition!

How come I don't have anything when you click my name under competition rankings. Other people have the stocks they own, I have nothing, even though I got some stocks yesterday.

It takes time for the portfolios to refresh -- and when they do, it shows you yesterdays results. So after the closing bell tomorrow (4:00 NY Time), you will see today's results.

So it doesn't show todays activity?

Unfortunately no. My current [real] total equity is $3,027.11.

However in the "Rankings" section it says my total equity is $2,944.24. That's yesterday's closing figures.

ARGH! I sold my NVidia shares at around 10am today, since I was losing big on them. And, right after that, tech stocks went up! :banghead: I had a gut feeling something like this would happen!

Oh well, at least my other tech stocks have benefitted from this. And I'm sure Mrkt's going to be relieved to see EA has finally made up for some lost value.

that's good that tech went up... i had a lot of tech stocks. But the damn wireless nternet in this classroom is dialup slow. I wont be able to check my portfolio till I get home

That happens all of the time. The trick is to look at it from a different perspective -- instead of saying "damn I could have made more money", say "at least I didn't lose anymore money." Setting strict sell rules (i.e. if the price drops below x% sell it) is the key to minimizing risk -- which is a very important. Risk management is key to making money on the market. By selling (even though you sold at loss, or sold too early) you've elminated your exposure to even more potential losses. 👍

I am. :D

Any gains are a good, acutally. ;)
Yes, that would be a good thing for me right now :ouch:. I've done nothing but lose money, lol. Good thing this is play money :D.

Altair killed me today. I saw it was at like 5.25 going up this morning and bought 200 shares of it and it ended up losing me $200 some bucks :grumpy:.

Have you been following my tips? :nervous:
Yes and no. I think my main problem was investing too heavily in tech stocks. They all dropped therefore I lost big.

On the plus side though, Intel made me 10 bucks :) and tech stocks seem to be on the rise again so I'm not reeling as bad as I was.

Mental Note: DIVERSIFY!

OK... just making sure. I was worried that my advice was backfiring. :)

$10 on Intel is good. 👍

Diversification helps. The main thing to concentrate on is risk management.

I lost today. Lockheed Martin went down, causing me to lose. It made up for the $1.25 it went up yesterday.
Haha - thats one way to look at it. I'll break even eventually :).

Now I am at 2,993.77 as a result. I lost about $8.
EIGHT DOLLARS! You're complaining over eight bucks?? Altair cost me nearly $300 today.

$261.80 to be exact.
