GTPlanet.net Virtual Stock Exchange Competition!

AE is splitting as well - seems it would have been smarter for them to sell after the split ..

So far everything looks good!

* Strong earnings growth
* Positive earnings surprises for the last 3 quarters
* EPS estimates are increasing
* The stock price has steadily climbed for a year
* I've seen $56 and $60 USD price targets

Usually, I would be concerned if that many shares were sold -- but there are enough good qualities about the stock to merit further research.

DISCLAIMER: The above is not a "buy" recommendation!

American Eagle looks to be a good buy, by that insider selling is a dark, looming cloud. I should probably steer clear of the clothing sector for my next purchase, I already have shares in Abercrombie & Fitch. :lol: I'm thinking food service.

ANF looks pretty good, but they were downgraded recently -- not to mention the fact there is a lawsuit pending.

Wow, I'm dumb. :dunce:

Not really, if they win the case the stock price will skyrocket. :)

EDIT: Not to mention the fact that there earnings per share estimates are increasing as well as earnings growth. They have a history of positive earnings surprises so that helps. :D

I read that lawsuit news story, and I have NO idea what that said, I can't even remember what I had for lunch, now! :dunce:

Basically, the company received the lawsuit from a shareholder that owns about 2,000 shares in the company. The shareholder is complaining about the amount of money the CEO is making. Then the company goes on to say that the CEO deserves the money because he was able to make the stock price go up from Jan. 30, 2003 until the Feb. 8, 2005 when the lawsuit was presented.

Under the terms of the Amended and Restated Employment Agreement, dated as of January 30, 2003, between the Company and Mr. Jeffries, the Company is obligated to cause Mr. Jeffries to be nominated as a director during his employment term.

What the above quote means is that he gets more money.

Yes. This is good. 👍
Any gains are a good, acutally. ;)

On the London stock exchange, I think the stocks are measured in pence? -- US stocks are measured in dollars.

Yeah, its in pence so any rise or fall looks more dramatic. :P

MrktMkr's Random Trading Tip:

One way to minimize risk is to set strict selling rules. For example, if you buy a stock at $21.50, you may want to sell it if it drops below a certain price. By doing this, you protect yourself from further potential losses.

Ah man, I actually had a gain.

Well, I guess I know what stocks not to buy.

Thank you for giving me the basis for my next random tip! 👍 :D
Sometimes, you're better off knowning what stocks not to buy when investing.

EDIT: Yeah -- I made $35 from the start. :indiff: Now it's all gone...

in other words...utilize stop and limit or stop-limit orders.

Woohoo! So losing $300+ from Altair isn't going to kill me! :D

Sucks that we have to start all over again though.

I know, but all of the numbers were inaccurate. :crazy:
Also, I got tired of seeing people with losses rank higher than me! :sly:

...and yes, you're $300 loss isn't going to kill you. 👍
But bear in mind there is no more buying on margin -- so whatever cash you have, you'll have to deal with it. :sly:

Yeah, I don't quite like buying on margin. I mean you have to pay interest on it .. whats the fun in that?!?

:lol:

:lol:

Precisely. Paying interest is not nearly as fun as receiving interest. Also, I adjusted the interest rates for the accounts. In the old game I think it set to about 4% which is unrealistically high for a brokerage account. I set it to 0.20% which is about what I receive in interest -- annually. At least in the simulation it's 0.20% daily.
