As of this writing I've gained $16.67 :D.

Excellent! Apple (AAPL) has been doing very well. :)

Ashland Inc. (ASH) on the other hand blew up in my face ( :ill: ) -- but I'm not worried, though. I've got a stop-loss order in place. :sly:

EDIT: I'm down $17.80... :ouch:

Bingo!

It'll be interesting to see who actually comes out ahead since we don't have to do any calculations anymore :),.

Exactly. :)

It looks like the bottom fell out from under ASH, losses including commissions total $22.60. :scared:

EDIT: It looks like my avatar has become a self-fulfilling prophecy... :ill:

NSTA is up 0.34... from when I bought it. I would have made quite a bit if I bought closer to market opening

Apple is also up by a good chunk. I should have invested in 5 or 6 more shares - that way i would have had a gain on the $7 commission :P.

AME is down 0.05 - so no complaints as of yet :)

$200 left to invest and I'm not sure what to put it into yet

True. Good pick, though.

Yup. The commissions are the worst part about investing because they exaggerate losses and take away from your gains.

No complaints. 👍

If you want my opinion I would save the $200 so it can earn interest. Though based on my :dunce: performance today, I can understand if you buy a few more shares anyway. :sly:

i made 150 bucks today. mmmmmm. i rock.

now then, why do i have -.25 on margin?

I'm looking into that -- I don't want to have to start another competition. :scared:

EDIT: It looks like you bought more stocks than you could afford only because FFIV appreciated, but it's not seeing that. Just disregard it, it's a small number -- but there is no buying on margin in this game.

It's funny... right as I said that, my stock for NSTA goes through the roof :P

Anyways, I'm wondering how Omnis manages to cash in so awesomely 👍

all i can say is THANK GOD i tuned into cnbc that one day. showed me a lot of good stuff.

umm....even though i have a 25 cents of debt, it seems like the equity is accurate. right?

Good. :)

Good question. You'd have to ask him, though -- I can't make any assumptions.

With ASH, I've experienced the biggest intra-day loss ever (with the exception of FMTI, but that's another story :indiff: ).

Equity is 100% accurate this time. :)

Believe or not, Google was 1 of 4 stocks I was considering purchasing. Then I bought the Ashland Inc. and watched it tank.

There is some light at the end of the tunnel though -- ASH is starting to rise again. Last I checked it was at $63.70 though I bought in at $63.78. It dropped to as low as $63.38 and I thought it was going to stop out -- I guess I was wrong. This stock may have a chance... :)

well....the markets are closed now and i made 177 dollars. not bad, eh?

unless the markets go on some more or something.....f5 is on the rise. :D :D :D

Not bad at all! Actually, the quotes on the VSE website are delayed so you won't get the real closing prices until about 4:30pm. The prices may change in that short period of time.

Yes, there is "after-market" trading and "pre-market" trading that takes place on the exchanges. However, they won't show up in the simulator -- so you'll have to wait until tomorrow to see whether or not the stock will continue to climb (or drop in my case :sly: ).

Omnis
yeah, it keeps rising and rising!

lol, now it's at 183.

Yay! I've lost $14.60 today! It's not my biggest intra-day loss anymore! :D

Final total equity figure: $2,985.40. But that includes the $7.00 loss for commissions -- so the stock lost me $7.60. :dopey:

EDIT: Good job, Omnis. 👍

Gawd. I lost $41 on MCI. wtf. Explanation, Brian!!! Tell me why MCI tanked today. I really have bad luck.

I did make $6.90 on hershey's, though. $.10 short of the commission charge!

DAMN, EH! man, i feel bad for you. that's how i felt when XPRSA started tanking. they were on a 8% rise when i bought them.

good job with hersheys though. i lost 5 bucks on ati, but thats just because of commisions.

I made $31 on Apple today .. and thats including the $7 commission.

So after one day I'm at 3022.50 :D.

I have the worst luck ever. Everything I buy turns to poop. Happened with google, happened with Symantec, now it happened with MCI. And I was gonna short-sell Qwest, too. That went down 4%. I'm an idiot.

Apparently investors were not confident about the buyout (which is impossible to predict). Verizon screwed the investors, though -- while Qwest was offering $23/share (or something like that, can't remember the exact figure), Verizon is only offering $20.75/share.

That's not the only reason why I think it tanked. Over the past few weeks investors kept buying -- to the point where shares went up about 10-15% -- it's possible that the market simply "corrected" itself from the price increases. Eventually what will happen is this:

*The price is slowly going to rise until it reaches about $20.75 and then it's going to stay there until the shareholders paid. Due to the fact that the shares have been valued there is no need for speculation anymore, so people will continue buying and selling until the "market price" is reached -- $20.75. That's what we do know. What we don't know, is how long it's going to take before it gets there, and whether or not the stock price will continue to fall before it starts to rise again.

That's cool. :)

Don't be so hard on yourself -- even fund managers (and remember it's their job to always make the right decisions) have bad years -- let alone a few bad trades. :) This may sound repetitive but for long-term growth you have to minimize your risk... :)

I'm not selling ASH until I turn a profit. :P

I ****ing hate my luck. I BOUGHTit at $20.75!!! Why does Verizon hate me?!

That's unfortunate -- you have 2 options at this point. Sell MCIP now and move on (perhaps you'll have better luck elsewhere), or wait to cash out on MCIP and still take a $7.00 loss because of the commissions. Also, you don't pay commissions when a tender offer is announced. So it's not like your selling the shares -- your account will be credited the $20.75 per share -- I just don't know when that's going to happen.

Really sorry to hear that... :guilty:

EH, you should've put a stop sale on it. i might do that with riskier stocks. you can always have the stop as an emergency backup, and just sell it at market price manually if you're happy with it.

That's what I did with ASH -- but it didn't reach the stop price.
