If you're going to convert your PS2, convert it so it can play Japanese games. You'll get GT4 several weeks sooner.

I don't think that will be worth it. You'll just be wasting your money and time if we have a repeat of the GT2 embargo. The PAL version was set back a few months so that it could be properly translated, and the NTSC versions were to be released on a similar date. But PD were met with an angry gaming community, so knocked the NTSC date back to its original release before they changed the PAL date and got it out on time.

It was loaded with glitches.

And they weren't nice glitches either - some of them deleted your entire garage. Others caused the game to lock up or you could drive through the wals of the track, etc. Don't chip your PS2 simply to play an NTSC GT4, because if history repeats itself ... well, you don't want to be there.

And besides, it's a video game ... surely your life doesn't revolve around a little black (or grey if you only have a PS-X like me) box, does it? Because if it does, I have to say that you really need to get out just a little bit more.

Well GT4 is a different game, different console to GT2. Were there any major problems with chipped PAL PS2s running NTSC GT3?

No, I mean actually running the game, not when chipped. Your standard off-the-shelf NTSC version of GT2 was loaded with bugs.

The early versions were. By the time the second shipment came though, PD had wised up to the problem and fixed it in time.

Most gamers never had problems with those bugs you mentioned (I didn't, and I got it when it first came out). The only problem was that once you completed the game the stats read like 97% complete (due to drag racing being left out, so I've heard). The first GT and GT3 had no problems (at least I didn't encounter any). Also remember that the PAL release of GT1 had bugs (like washing the car cost millions of credits), and the translation was pretty poor (since it was in many different languages).

I bought GT2 on release day. No bugs like that ever occured to me.

The worst thing that ever happened was my memory card save got corrupted, but that was because of the faulty card, not the game.

this is why i always say only buy the official Sony memory cards(and if you did, disregard what i said :sly: )-not those cheapo nobrand\crappy brand ones. i would go crazy if i lost all the data on my mem card from all my games  :ill: :scared:

it was an official sony one. that's what burnt me. but it was 20 bucks back then.

the pitiful 8mb ps2 memory cards retail for 35$ (cdn) even now. I would buy a PS2 hard drive if it was actually functional, but you can't even save game files on it.

yeah sony really needs to work on that :grumpy:. you can't even use a hard drive with the new slim ps2's, right?

I too got my copy of GT2 on it's release day, and i know that the saved games can get screwed up, and not becuase of a non sony card, i have always used 2 carss to save my GT2 gams o,n, switching back and forth each save. It has gotten messed up a few times. I will gladdly wait a while to haev Gt4 come out perfect

No, but I still have my older model ps2 in case they decide to make the damn hard drive useful. 100gigs is well and good, but not if the only games you can use it for aren't interesting. (RE: outbreak, FFXI: international nerd fest).

I know the feeling, I got corrupt data on my official PS2 mem card, and the bad part is that it won't delete, so I have to format it. Oh, and at least you can copy saved games onto the HDD (just like PSone saves onto a PS2 memcard), and it has some utilities that allow to format memory cards (though you can dl those off the internet).

lol, Sony said the people who want an HDD already own a PS2.

You don't have the FFXI hdd, correct? Cause that one is 40gigs. And at least there is HDloader.

You will need a chip to mod your system with (make sure it's compatable with DualLayer games), and you'll also need an NTSC-PAL video converter for it to play right on your TV.
