In the world of GT race bred supercars and top end racers are provided on tap. with such an abundant supply of cars like the lemans touring cars and JGTC racers, some of the worlds best high performance cars can tend to get overlooked. These are the cars that tend to see little track time after the amateur league. the top speed demons that claim award after award in the real world, surpassed only by the supercars of the most elite manufactures. Ten top end cars, put through a series of three tests to see which one is the ultimate production car.

Viper GTS
DB7 Vantage
Jaguar XKR
Corvette Z06
Ruf RGT
SVT Cobra R
Speed 6
Esprit sport
AMG CLK55
Griffith 500

The tests used to sort the men from the boys range as wide as the cars themselves and measure several aspects of the cars performance. They are as follows...

0-60 and 0-100 mph testing, quarter mile times, top speed testing, and a maximum of three laps around a road course to get a fastest lap. Imposing the three lap limit caps the type of improvements that can be made due to break in and such as well as bringing a cars drivability to the surface. With only three laps, not only ultimate performance, but stability and communicative handling play a role.

TEST 1: ACCELERATION TESTING
This includes the 0-60, 0-100, and quarter mile tests. Sorted by QM elapsed time.

Viper GTS: 0-60, 4.0sec / 0-100, 9.8sec / QM, 12.4sec @ 114 mph

Ruf RGT: 0-60, 4.1sec / 0-100, 9.6sec / QM, 12.4sec @ 113 mph

Esprit sport: 0-60, 4.1sec / 0-100, 10.7sec / QM, 12.7sec @ 110 mph

Speed 6: 0-60, 4.5sec / 0-100, 10.0sec / QM, 12.8sec @ 113 mph

Corvette Z06: 0-60, 4.7sec / 0-100, 10.6sec / QM, 13.1sec @ 109 mph

Griffith 500: 0-60, 5.0sec / 0-100, 10.7sec / QM, 13.2sec @ 112 mph

Jaguar XKR: 0-60, 5.0sec / 0-100, 12.0sec / QM, 13.4sec @ 106 mph

SVT Cobra R: 0-60, 5.0sec / 0-100, 11.9sec / QM, 13.5sec @ 106 mph

DB7 Vantage: 0-60, 5.6sec / 0-100, 11.8sec / QM, 13.8sec @ 108 mph

AMG CLK55: 0-60, 5.7sec / 0-100, 12.9sec / QM, 14.1sec @ 105 mph

TEST 2: TOP SPEED TESTING
Despite a span in horse power of over 100 all the cars turned in speeds in the same general aria, and the slowest car in test (the esprit) was redline limited.

Viper GTS: 188 mph

Ruf RGT: 185 mph

Speed 6: 185 mph

Griffith 500: 184

DB7 Vantage: 182 mph

Corvette Z06: 178 mph

SVT Cobra R: 178 mph

Jaguar XKR: 175 mph

AMG CLK55: 174

Esprit sport: 172

TEST 3: TRACK TESTING
In this test each car is given three laps to put up one best lap. The arena of choice? Midfield

Ruf RGT: 1’18.192

Speed 6: 1’18.241

Griffith 500: 1’19.130

Esprit sport: 1’19.874

Viper GTS: 1’20.098

Corvette Z06: 1’20.591

DB7 Vantage: 1’21.668

SVT Cobra R: 1’22.368

Jaguar XKR: 1’23.243

AMG CLK55: 1’24.431

So, the Viper GTS proved it is the king of acceleration and top speed. And who would have expected less. However, faced with the need to turn between accelerations the viper found itself at a loss and the Ruf RGT found itself a gold.

excellent!

Jaguar XKR... what a turd. I would have expected no better, I hate that car from the licence test its in...

But I might run this test myself and check my results against yours and see how it compares.

Stuff like this seems to be catching on... it might make this forum more popular. I'll come out with another one in a few days. ;)

Thanks for the compliment slowman. Yeah, these things are fun. I've got so many. impreza vs lancer, Henesey venom 800 (viper tuner car) vs TVR speed 12, FIRST CAR SHAKEDOWN (Sprinter trueno vs miata 1.8). I've done em all. Not on GTP actualy, so feel free to indulge. I look forward to your next comparison.

[EDIT]
At Smallfryz

I ran the cars in the order they are listed at the top of the page.

At Slowman

If you do rerun this one be sure to do an oil change on all the cars. I was going to use completely stock cars but some of them where so rediculously under speck. the Z06 was making about 350 hp before the change. the same as a regular corvett. even after I changed out the oil some of the cars where still under the advertised hp so i think changing the oil actualy brings the car up to speck. Perhaps a full brake-in would do the same, but i don't have time for that. Also, i started each test at 0.0 miles. you know, I reset the game for each test. and ASM and TCS were off.

WTF?Top Speed Lotus Esprit only 172 mph? I went more then 440 kp/h with it.

Anyway, nice job Inferno 👍

Cheers,

all the cars where completely stock. The esprit was redline limited at 172 mph. It only had five gears. That dosent sound right? mabe I fell victim to a glitch. Looking at the old high speed shootout the esprit recorded 174 mph for me then. WTF?

You know, I did something like this a while back,(and so did Motor-Trend in June 2003) but it was a very warped idea from yours. It was calledThe Speedy 12*

In fact, I wonder if you did not use this magazine issue as your inspiration. :D

Cars Used:
Corvette Z06
Viper Srt-10
575 Maranello F1
SVT Cobra
Jag XK-R
Lambo Murcielago
Merc-Benz Cl55 AMG
Lancer Evo VII
Mosler MT900 Photon.

Results were remarkably similar, but that is GT3 for you.

I'm shocked the Griffith 500 did as well as it did.
Are you nuts?! (Just kidding. :) ) The Griffith 500 has a p.w.r. of about 3-flat. (3.054 on my new one) They are like a new Cobra!

hey, great thread! there are more than a few great cars in gt3 that rarely see the light of day. i have brought every car in the game, and recently whils looking at my garage (sorted by distance), i noticed that there were quite a few cars below 100km driven. my list compares favourably with yours, and it made me wonder why is it that we always seem to drive the same sorts of cars?

a few questions about your tests. did you use automatic or manual transmission? that could also effect car performance? if you used manual transmission, are you competent? how long have you used manuals? im not trying to make you look bad here inferno, just interested in finding out the scope of your tests.

Ok I'll recap everything I've said and ad your questions just to create one all encompasing post.
DS2 controller
automatic transmission (with R2/L2 "hold gear" trick, when necesairy)
TCS and ASM off
oil change (to bring the cars back up to factory speck. A full break in would probably do the same.)
all tests started from 0.0 miles.

that about covers it.

Did you record the 0-60 times with a stopwatch or something?

LOL. I know it's been a while, but while watching the replay of the 400 meter test I paused it as the spedometer read 60 mph and recorded the time on the in game timer. yup, this is old news.
