How do I change car colors???

I've been trying to get custom colors on my cars and I've got nothing so far. I want to make my RX 7 red, but that wasn't an available color for the car. And I also want to get my Dodge Intrepid ES purple, and that color wasn't available. I used the code for GT1 when I have GT2. Any and all help would be appreciated.
