How do you keep the HUD from distracting you?

I find the stupid race info display very distracting and I crash a lot more with it on or off. However, having it off, I would miss gear changes a few times and hit the rev limiter. Is there a view that shows nothing but the gear you are in / the rpm meter?

There are many premium
cars that have some sort of rpm gauge and/or shift light easily visible in cockpit view. Also listen to engine, it will help... I usually can 'feel' the limits of the car I use.

There are more things to distract me in a cockpit view :D

Depends on the car, the McLaren F1 has a huge view, central position, and simple, yet practical gauges way to the bottom... The Citroen GT however, is very distracting with all of the stuff in view and tiny windshield.

I just learned to listen to the sound of the engine to determine when to shift, even with the HUD on. When you drive a car long enough, you can "hear" when to shift. I also learned to use my peripheral vision to see the blinking red shift light on the HUD so I'm still focused on driving.

It annoys me more without. The car looks a lot slower and every movement looks very soft...

Doesn't give enough action.

Wish there was an option to kill everything except the fuel gauge, that one's pretty key to me. Everything else you can substitute easily, eg rev meter can be replaced by ear, you'll know when your tires are shot, etc. Fuel on the other hand, you won't know that you're running out until its too late :)

And I'm referring to bumper cam of course.

well, look at the road when you're driving and it will not distract you:tup:

I wouldn't mind having all displays off except for Gear/Shift Indicator and Time Split pop-up.

I use DS3 only, so it's real easy to forget which gear I'm in at any given time. If I raced with a wheel and H pattern shifter I'd play with no HUD.

How long have you been running in the cockpit view? Once you get more time in you'll get it.

Think about it, in your real life car(assuming you have one) does the speedometer distract you from driving? Focus on the road and nothing else matters.
