How will PD update standard cars to premium?

Yamauchi recently said that they plan to update standard cars to premium. If that happens it will most likely be limited to a few select cars. It would seem easy to remove a standard car from the used car dealership (standard) and put it into the dealerships (premium). A natural consequence would be to reset the mileage count to zero in the dealership but what if you already bought it in the used car dealership before it was updated to premium? Then it would probably change category in your garage but what about the mileage count it had from the used car dealership? Chances are that players who already bought a car in the used car dealership will be slapped because the update will make their expensive used car (with engine overhaul and rigidity improvement bills) available as brand new. On the other hand it would also be weird if they reset the cars in your garage because they were updated to premium. Especially if you drove a lot of miles in it and did pay the expensive maintenance bills. Not a huge deal but it still got me wondering how they could update this without making casualties.

Easy. The car is changed to premium with all the stats remaining the same.

A new 0 mile version of the car can also be added to the dealership.

The Car is removed from the UCD

OR

They could now allow PREMIUM cars to be bought from the used car dealership.

The new premium cars remain in the UCD and everything remains the same, expect the UCD has not premium models as well.

This is pretty much common sense?
Only the car's visuals will be upgraded, not the performance. The car would automatically move from UCD to the premium delership because it is classed as a premium car. Same thing would happen in the garage and all the car's stats would be the same...

As I kind of pointed out in my first post I don't really think it's easy and common sense. I don't see how your suggestions avoid any of the possible conflicts I mentioned. Premium cars in the UCD is not going to happen unless they are ready to make radical changes to the game.

Well they won't actually update them because it will create too many problems like the ones you listed. They will simply create new "Premium" versions of whatever "Standard" cars they want to, the "Standard" version will still be available along with a new "Premium" version.

You're talking about PD, remember? We already have cases where there are both standard and premium versions of a car.

If a car is updated, the standard one won't be touched. It will stay the very same, both in your garage and in the UCD. Only difference: You'll be able to purchase a premium one from the dealership at zero miles.

You don't think anyone would get they Toyota GT One upgraded and delivered to their garage for free, do you? :sly:
You'll have to earn the credits and buy it like any other premium car in the game, whether you have the standard version already or not. As far as coding and implementing those updates go, that should be the easiest way by far.

And I'm fairly certain that that's the route PD will take.

Yes, I would think that would be the case.

Maybe but I think Kaz mentioned that we shouldn't expect new cars. Question is if he only was talking about new models and not new versions of cars already in the game.

I wasn't aware that there were standard/premium duplicates. Weird choice as I always considered the standard cars as temporary fillers while we wait for GT6. However, in that case there's no reason why they cannot make more duplicates.

My fear is that Kaz is speaking on a higher level than we want to realize and that his upgrading cars in a later update will we nothing other than GT6.

If they are doing premium modelling, why wouldn't they do it to new cars that arent already in the game?

thats the stupidest way they could do it. if anything theyll just update all standards with better models and class them prem.

Chevrolet Camaro Z28. Available as both premium and standard model. Available in both the UCD and the new car dealership.
Same for the Ferrari Enzo.

And they surely won't be updating all standard cars anytime soon, that'd take way too much time (and probably cover one of the bullet points for GT6, which probably isn't very desirable to PD).

I'd even be suprised if the upgrade is free for all cars that are being upgraded.

lol you cant get a standard z28 or a standard enzo, good way to make yourself look smart

Every Ferrari in GT Life is Premium.

There isn't a P/S Z28 either in GT Life.

The only way to have any of those in standard as well is by importing a PSP garage (meaning they are not part of GT5 by itself) and then they are only available in arcade mode.

Quite interesting. I never knew about that (probably because I don#t bother with the UCD).

In that case, my appologies.

Thank you :)

There is no Standard Enzo or Standard Z28. Every Ferrari is Premium and the Camaro SS 69 is the Standard model so yeah, Im not wrong.

Either way, if you ported them over from the PSP version, you're receiving standard cars of cars that are available as premiums as well.

So the initial point still stands: If those models aren't being replaced by the premium ones, why would PD bother to replace other models?

Another thing to point out is that almost that whole list isnt in Standard except the 787B which I think has two seperate models
Which list are you reffering to? The bit I posted? That are the cars the car list lists as both premium and standard, so I don't get what you're saying :)

why would they want crappy standard models taking up space in their game when they can have premiums?

Because they're already there and it'd be more work to stop them from appearing in the UCD than to, you know, not do it.

It's also easier (and more intuitiv) to just add a premium car to the premium car dealership than to the UCD.

Besides, why give someone a crappy standard Enzo when you have a premium Enzo model? obviously, because PD think it's cool to have both. Or something. I don't really get it, either, but, well, I don't expect them to change their ways. Especially not if it's less work when they're not changing their ways.

Well there you go, I didn't know that!

Back on topic, I'm sure the new premiums will be added to the NCD as new cars to buy, just like the California/GTbyCitroen/Evora were in GT5P. They'll probably leave the UCD alone, as there's no benefit in messing around with them when they could be creating even more premium models.

And I'd imagine that if you've bought a standard and want the premium version when (or if) it appears, you'll just have to buy it again.

As I kind of pointed out in my first post I don't really think it's easy and common sense. I don't see how your suggestions avoid any of the possible conflicts I mentioned. Premium cars in the UCD is not going to happen unless they are ready to make radical changes to the game.

What radical changes need to be made? As far as I can tell they had already planned ahead to allow Premium cars in the UCDs. If you go to the UCD you see the "S" in a box indicating it's a standard car. Why do that if all cars are and will only be Standard cars? At some point, we hope, that "S" will be a "P" for some cars in the future.

Come on, I'm ready to garbage all those standards cars if PD tell us one of these days they upgrade to premium level. I'm going to pay my credits or my money for that. Wonder why Yamauchi San don't want to employ some designers just for these motha 🤬 cars.. What your waiting for? The whole world is loughing/complaining about that.. I love GT I'm a big fan but standard cars in 2011 it's nothing more than a joke. Seriously.

Somebody could say for premium cars they need more time.. 1000 cars.. OK GT5 sold about 50 / 60 milions copies.. take some people for those cars. You got the money for that come on.

I prefer to just wait and see rather than speculate. If we get more premium cars, great! If we don't, oh well! I'm STILL finding different cars to tune and tweak instead of spending 5min with one and throw it out the proverbial window.

I bought the game as it is and highly enjoy it. Anything else is a bonus. Some people get too caught up with the "gimme, gimme" attitude in this internet age. Some games will be busted or have problems, but instead of constricting yourself to the "what could be," bask in the glorious fact that there will be updates and PD is too good of a company to let this beta test go to waste.

(Seriously, you think PD has nothing else up their sleeves?)

Well just because something is common sense to us the consumer, doesn't necessarily mean it's common sense to the developer - lol. I think that there are a couple of cars that are already available as standard AND premium.

I hope they do just upgrade the cars though as I don't fancy having to buy them again! Having said that, a lot of the standard cars are getting on a bit, especially the race models. It would be nice if they introduced some brand new premiums rather than just converting existing.
