I hate the license tests

Especially the guide laps, where they give you a low performance car and expect you to drive around the track in a certain amount of time. I still don't have the B license because of that.

I got most of the pace car laps on my first run all the way through. (sometimes after several 'partial' laps, because the pace car drives to damn slow and you're not allowed to pass it. Or run into it when it slows down too fast. Bastard.)

It's okay if you hate the license tests, a lot of people do, a lot of people think they're the most fun part. Most people of either opinion don't start threads about it though.

You must not have never played GT1. Those were license tests to DESPISE.

Giving all due credit, some of the tests in GT4 can be a real pain. Specifically, some of the tests on Nurburgring's downhill sections were just a tad too much speed lands you in the dirt or the dirt/snow/city tests and the FAIL when you just barely brush along the barriers. I don't like the guide tests either, particuarly because you're always driving some slow FF car.

This type of thread goes hand in hand with those what should I use to win the Clubman Cup? I can't decide between my M5 and DB7. I have no interest in challenging myself or learning anything. I want it all to be easy. Every thought that pops into my head is worth sharing with as many people as possible.

The license tests have been made so easy to pass it is stupid - you even get a prize for getting all bronze - a blind, one-armed neanderthal restored to life from a frozen corpse could get all bronze - wtf do you want? Press X - congratualtions you have been awarded all the licenses, and, while were there, here are all the prize cars, you have 100% Congratulations. You may now watch the ending movie and then go and create stimulating and insightful threads on GTP. Go to IGN - they love stupid pointless threads over there.

End of Rant

If you find the license tests annoying, wait till you get to the "Magic Lap" driving missions—I'd like to meet the sick jerkface who decided to make us wait for the other cars to leave (2 minutes at Nürburgring! Christ!). I don't mind the actual missions themselves (they're fun), but the wait is killer.

Yeah, the wait is the killer on the one lap magic missions, I have to take 100 calming pills (kidding) to bare the wait, just to get that ****%&"!! 5sec (you'll never gonna make it now....) penalty when I try to pass the idiot AI drivers, and then have to wait another 2 mins......

the licences arent too bad. they can be a bit tricky at times, but race your ghosts or stick to the butt of the pace car and you'll be ok :)

I only have the S licence to go but I have other objectives first :)

i HATE the Mercedes vs Nurburgring... grrrrrr.. i cant get the damn thing to stay on the road w/out drifting @ the wrong time. lol

Instead of opening useless threads saying 'I hate this' and 'I hate that' , there is something better you can do.

Just do not buy any other Poliphony Digital game and tell your friends to do the same.

That's what they deserve for filling GT4 with ********* !!!!!! :grumpy: :grumpy: :grumpy:

Awwww, so sad. Da bad bad PD made da game too hard for da poor widdle guy :( I hear Need for Speed Underground is nice. Maybe you should try that? Really. I've never played GT1 or 2, but I remember throwing my controller across the room after trying for hours to get even a measly bronze on some tests in GT3. I got bronzes on my first or second try on nearly all the tests in GT4 and I am not by any means a great driver.

Let me state this clearly: if you can't get bronzes on these tests, you don't know how to drive. Period, end of story. In GT3 you had to get golds on the tests for 100%. In GT4 you don't. Now we have the Mission Halls, some of which are very frustrating, but they really help you learn the specific skills involved in racing. If you don't like the license tests and mission halls, you don't like driving. You just like winning races, so play an easier game.

i now have the game 94.5% complete and i didn't make it this far by crying about the license test. that is the easy part. wait until you have to do the driving missions like mission 34 which i have not even beatin yet.

im not a great lover of the licence tests, but this last week i have been making a charge for the golden 80. last sunday i had only one gold, twenty-odd silver, and enough bronze to equip a greek phalanx with short swords! i hadnt even got the super licence.
i started slowly at first, not really confident in my ability to improve on this tally. i had remembered from my previous visits to the licence center that some of the tests were a real pain to complete, especially the 1-lap guide runs which (up to now), i had avoided like the plague.

first i picked and choosed which test to complete. i never spent too long on any single licence, switching and changing each one as the mood took me. some i found were easy, others were really hard. my original goal was to get at least bronze on all the super licence test. i surprised myself how easy i found to get the super licence bronzes, and i came to the conclusion that getting bronzes on gt4 was a doddle as long as i remained focussed.

i then turned my attention to the A and B licence tests in an attempt to get all bronzes (because i had used the licence transfer from gt4 prologue to pass these). this again was not as hard as i had first feared and my tally increased again.
after a week of trying to improve my licence tests, i am now at 20 golds, 42 silver, and 18 bronze, with the A, B and international b licences all at silver. i have 5 bronzes left on the international A, with the remaining bronzes spread across the super licence.

im not a GT4 expert, but i do believe that with application, all the tests are passible on bronze without any bother at all. i plan to get rid of the 18 remaing bronze over the next week, and then get all golds on the A and B licences. after that, the gold 80 wont be too far off.

classic_anycar, dont be disheartened by you lack of sucess passing the licences, you will pass them eventually. the 1-lap guide runs are a pain, but if you stick at them, you will suceed. remember your not racing the pace car, you are following it. you can influence its speed though. on the straights drive hard, and it will increase its speed to match yours. just watch when the corners come because he has a tendancy to break suddenly. keep that in mind, and you will find that the 1-lap guide runs are infact fun to drive. good luck, and keep at it, hard work and effort has its rewards.

who said alchemy was a dead art? ive been changing bronze into silver all week! 👍

To each his own I guess.

I enjoy the pleasure of my friends calling me up and requesting my assistance to pass tests. But I allways watch them first and coach. But if they start crying I knock it out quickly. But I tell them you dont earn it if you dont learn it.

On the pace car test I enjoy getting as close to the pace car as I can and watching the movements of the suspention and actually think I create a draft and feel them increase speed then let off.

In my circle of GT freaks from 1-4 they have not put the time in and even though they complete as much as I do, I can allways blow them away, even when we use the same cars.

Each time a new release comes out I say I wont do their tests and hard courses in hopes that they will improve and be more competitive but I allways do.

Here's what I say. If you can pass the 1lap magic with the Takata Dome NSX, you can beat mission 34, and if you can beat that, you can gold everything on S-License. I think the missions are designed for you to learn specific tracks and licenses are to get you familiar with driving certain types of cars and turns in general. If you follow the licenses and missions as a guide, it can help you learn a lot about racing techniques, etc. which I think is a great thing and why I loved the license tests

I got pretty frustrated on the superlic. a few times, but I survived... just don't quit..

off topic: I have a friend that still didn't pass all the lic. tests... I passed some for him.

I swear he was so scared to push it on some tracks (like he was doing it in real life)... like the Audi R8 at the Infenion Raceway... I drove a time that was .5 seconds off of the bronze, just to give him a good ghost to beat (because as long as he would beat it, he would pass)... he drives and comes in 8 seconds late. wtf.

Haha yeah I have a friend like that.
To anyone who does struggle with licenses tests though, follow the demonstration in each test. press square until it says "display" on the screen, then press X, then R1 for a better camera angle. It shows you how much computer hit the gas, brake, and turned at the same time, which I'm sure should help you aim for a better time. It shows you the perfect path to gold. If you can't get gold, I'm sure after watching a demo with display mode on, you can at LEAST get bronze... and the ghost updates help out a lot too

LOL. 👍

GT1 was rock hard. Or maybe I was just rubbish then (more likely).

It makes sense what PD was trying to do - make it so that if you can drive you can get a bronze for all of the tests so the whole game is open to you. Getting all gold seems easier to me in GT4 than the previous games, but maybe all of us who think it's too easy have just had way too much practice with GT1, 2 and 3 (I know i'm a lot better now than I was when I first got GT1. Or GT3 for that matter)
