Hey guys, I need help picking out a shooting game. I already have both of the Soccom's, but i need something else to help time fly by faster(I want GT4). I am debating on getting the Call of Duty:Final Hour. I have Call of Duty and its expansion pack for PC, but i want to know is it different from the Final Hour for PS2.

It´s Finest Hour actually. I just got it yesterday, but didn´t have much time to play it yet. It reminds me of MoH:Frontline, but the playability is better. The graphics and frame rate are good, but I can´t tell you much about the game so far. It has online mode also, and it´s good from what I´ve heard, I didn´t have the chance to test it yet.

Other good shooters for PS2 are Killzone, Red Faction 2, and there´s this game called Area 51 coming out soon, there´s a demo of it on the latest MK game. Those who played it said it´s quite s good game.

IMO, the original Red Faction was the best PS2 FPS. If you enjoyed the original Half Life on the PC, you'll love Red Faction.

Stick to Call of Duty or Medal of Honor for military FPS. Stay far away from the Vietnam FPS out there. Stick with SOCOM if you like online play.

If you're on the cheap, try to find Quake III or UT for PS2. They were pretty decent games, even though they were ports.

IMO, Killzone is pretty bad. Frame Rate problems and a crappy storyline doesn't make a good FPS.

I'd say Battlefield 1942 or something along those lines. I personally have played 1942 and find it to be a very fun and enjoyable shooting game. It also has online play, and there are always people online, always. The single player itself is fun as well. The coolest thing about it is you can jump in any vehicle or turrent and take control.

Call Of Duty FH- bah I really didn't think much of it... Frustrating to play, where are the save points?? IMOH it's a game after all and the graphics were meh... they would have passed off as being very good 2 years ago. It has the console "feel" the orginal COD on the PC was the best.

MOH Frontline is still better than MOH Rising Sun and Killzone is one of the best FPS around... thats only what I think tho.

I recently rented mercenaries and it was ok - the targeting system kinda sucked, but all in all it was fun calling in airstrikes that DESTROYED ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING. I would suggest renting that - I didn't think it was worth buying it.

Also, SOCOMII online is still going strong. That drasticaly adds to the replay value of that game.

I haven't played any other FPS, but I'll list some other good games incase one peaks your interest:

Spiderman II - flying around the city is amazingly fun in this game, even if the fighting leaves something to be desired.

TOCA 2 - decent racing sim, but the physics are a bit off. I own an STi and I have driven it on track - TOCA makes it feel like you are racing on ice. And there's no gear indicator for how fast/slow you should be taking a turn.

Tiger Woods 2005 - Fun golf game, good for 20+ hours of fun before it gets really easy and somewhat boring.

ESPN NHL 2k5 - Better than the EA counterpart and a must if you are a hockey fan going through withdrawal because hockey is on strike.

Hope this helps!

I agree with most of the above replies. Medal of Honor Frontline is still one of the best FPS out there for the PS2. I still own my original copy, and still play it at least two times a week. (I'm trying to get all gold medals for each level now...)

I really liked Killzone. Sure the framerate had a few problems, but it is one of the best looking, most fun shooters for PS2. It took me over 70 hours to beat it the first time through on normal difficulty. The replay value is kinda medium to high, seeing as playing as different characters you sometimes get to access areas in levels that are not available to anybody else. 👍

I ended up trading in Killzone as a down payment on GT4. :dunce:

If you havn't played Max Payne thats my 1st suggestion. In my book its still the all time greatest shooter to date. Nothing else I've played comes close. I still play it over again every 6mos. to a year. Max Payne 2 wasn't half the game the first one was but its worth playing. Return to Castle Wolfenstein on PS2 was OK.

I second getting the max payne games...just not on the ps2. PC version all the way (hell this is becoming a recurring theme with me on this thread, pc games that is). Max Paynes 2 awesome-ness is frankly off the scale on the pc.

Yeah!! I have the first Payne and I bought it for $ 9.99.... It is a great game to play... And there are mods for the game if you look online (The game apparently comes with a modding program)... I like the Kungfu mod best....

Anyways... I played a lot of Red Faction against my cousin and all the bots possible... It is really entertaining... I don't know any other game that has breakable environments... (Besides Mercenaries, which is a great game also)

Don't even look at metal of honor : rising sun, that game is utter crap!! 👎

Some good third-person shooters are Freedom Fighters and Conflict: Desert Storm 2 Both have the same basic controller functions as Socom(left stick for moving, right stick for looking). Syphon Filter Omega Strain is a good third-person shooter with nice graphics.

Freedom Fighters is a cool game, although I haven´t finished it.

But talking about third person shooters, Ratchet & Clanck fits in that category too I think. And it´s a hell of a fun game, especially Up Your Arsenal. So you may think about getting this one, you won´t regret it, I bet! :)
