I need advice!

I need some advice. I'm not sure what to get. The PS3, or the Xbox 360. I would really like to get Xbox 360, so I can get TDU. I have got TDU on PS2, but the PS2 version missed out on so much. Then I'm thinking, if I do that, I will never get to play Gran Turismo 5. So I really need some serious help deciding!

This is a real grey area, trying to choose between both next gen consoles.. as they are in essence very similar in the end comes down to personal preference. You can choose it based on games, functionality, price and looks but at the end of the day they both provide you with a next gen gaming experience.

As for TDU, you cannot rule out that there maybe a sequel for PS3, Im sure Ive heard talk in the past for TDU2, that way you would be able to have GT5 in the end.

As you already have TDU on PS2 you have experienced atleast some of the game and it may not totally warrant purchasing the game again on another console however if you are really set on experiencing it at its best then you will have to go with the 360.

I personally would wait a while, especially if your sitting on the fence, the prices can only come down and the number of good games can only increase so give it some thought for now.

I chose the PS3 because ive always been a devout sony fan and there was no real issue with me deciding, I knew that sony in the end would deliver a great system (although there was a bumpy start).

Sorry I cant provide any more help but in the end its your decision, im sure other members will also provide some good input to your dilemma....

If there's going to be a next test drive, it will probably be available for ps3 also.
And in that time developers will have more experience in making games for the ps3.
So if you buy a 360 now, maybe you'll regret it in the future, because the ps3 version will be better than the 360 version.
Just a personal thought;)

I never even considered buying a 360, because the exclusive games for it don't really interest me.
I played forza on it ones on the 360, and after just 15 minutes i got a cramp in my hands.
The PS3 controller FTW!

If you have an HDTV the PS3 looks better and you can play Blue-Rays. The PS3 looks pretty bad on my SDTV and it's hard to even read the text at times. The 360 looks better on an SDTV so if you have one of those I would say get the Xbox. At least in my view.

I have both and a Wii and there are both pros and cons to all three. If I was going to pick a favourite though I would still say the Wii.

My comments arnt going to solve your dilemma but I can tell you what I think.

Im posting this from the PS3 so I will start with that. Dont so much think of the PS3 as a gaming console, and think of it as more of a piece of AV equipment, it can do allot more than just play games, and when it is used for other things it can do it with quality, a friend of mine is useing his as a cd player, and you might think that is a waste but seeing as the cd player he prefers it agaist its quite a compliment (its a Rega Jupiter worth £1000 new).

Also the PS3 is just getting started and getting better all the time.

Now for the 360.

The 360 is just a console, every thing else it does arnt selling points, but seeing as games are the main focus for the 360 it does them very well. If you do get one get the elite, mainly just for the HDMI out, as games like Overlord and Blue Dragon look great in 1080p, I know Ive not gone into great detail about either console, as both do a greate job of entertaining, but if it was down to just one console for me I would go with the PS3 every time.

BTW I own both too, so no fanboy notions from me.

So basically, you stuck between a better version of TDU and GT5. Are there any other games you want on either platform like Gears of War, Halo 3, and Mass Effect on the 360, or LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2, and MGS4 on PS3?

If you want only those two titles, I'd say hold off on any purchase for a year and wait for GT5.

TDU isnt really worth getting the 360. It gets repetive really quickly and even more so if you already played it on the PS2.

This wasn't a question of the quality of TDU. But if he should get a 360 to play the better version of the two. I personally would not. There is always the PC version :)

Your cash is better spent with the PS3. A better system, with all the periferals that the 360 (MS) charges for, are included in the base price. Besides, you can't get GT5 on the Lamesauce 360.

Oh Sony charges you just as much for add ons, most notably a $100 HDMI cable if you wish to play in HD. I still haven't made up my mind which system I like better, they are both really good in their own ways.

PS3 if you want a true entertainment system that will last long term. Most likely be a great gaming system in the near future too.

360 if you want Gaming only right now but be aware it might not always be good gaming via Freezing, dying and RSOD... Will definitely not last long term and is only limited to games. Not even watching movies in HD unless you want to pay another $170 for a addon...

$100 HDMI cable if you wish to play in HD.

:scared: I'm really hoping you are smart enough to know not to get their cable, go on monoprices.com, and get a cheap ass version that works just as well.

The big difference though with the PS3 you are not stuck with buying from Sony. Try replacing the HDD in a 360 with a $150 250GB HDD instead of Microsoft's $180 120GB drive. :ouch:

And as DWA mentioned an that has beem mentioned many times before, if you are paying more than $1 per foot for HDMI cable you are likely paying too much.

Uh says who? There is a good chance that the 360 might not have any problems at all. It will not defiantly break, there is a risk it might but it's not a for sure this.

and is only limited to games. Not even watching movies in HD unless you want to pay another $170 for a addon

Which still makes it cheaper then the PS3 at $570 compared to the $600 PS3, but really it's up to you on which one, HD-DVD or Blue-Ray, you think is better. I personally can't see a huge difference between them but that is just me and I'll admit I don't know a ton about HD movies.

And I do a lot on my 360, I watch movies, listen to music, browse through pictures, and talk to my friends in the UK for a whole lot cheaper then my mobile offers.

:scared: I'm really hoping you are smart enough to know not to get their cable, go on monoprices.com, and get a cheap ass version that works just as well.

I don't have the need to buy HD cables so I've never looked for them outside of seeing them yesterday at Best Buy.

Like I said I'm up in the air on which system is better, right now I think they are both awesome systems and I think you are really missing out if you only buy one.

I have both... PS3 > 360

Here we go again...

BTW, that $30 price difference isn't gonna mean squat when you have to send in your 360 for repairs.

I'm sure the original poster is likely well aware of the technical problems many people have been having with the 360, and if not, in GTP's Xbox forums he can find any number of threads on the subject like:

So I don't think there is much cause to turn this thread into yet another 360 poor reliability thread.

Besides, like Joey, I suspect there are more people with a perfectly working 360 than there are with ones having serious problems.

Besides, as long as you buy a new 360 from an authorized dealer and don't break Microsoft's Limited Warranty, and don't mind being without it should it have to go in for service, and should after one year, the only problem you have is the ultimate 3-red light hardware failure, then you wont have to worry about any reliability problems for at least three years. 👍

I'm so glad Sony provides us with free headsets and HD cables while you have to pay for them on the 360... oh wait.

Besides, you can't get GT5 on the Lamesauce 360.

You're so funny, you should be a comedian!

Oh, no doubt... other than the freezing problem I'm still on my first. The bottom line is the 360 it's a matter of WHEN not IF it will die. I don't have that feeling with the PS3.

Kind odd... but I don't see the PS3 as online as much as the 360 and at least with me it's not a big deal that I didn't get a headset with the PS3. Even then my bluetooth stereo headset works with the PS3 so it's not proprietary and limited just to the console.

No it's not a matter of WHEN, there are many working 360's out there, I've had mine for over a year with no problems what so ever. I don't feel like I really should worry about either system as long as I take care of them.

On break downs of the 360... 1 in 3, that's all I'm saying (which is also just a part of what MS is saying :ouch: ). None the less, 1 in 3. :indiff:

Also, as for price difference... Let's not forget the internet situation... As in, if you want to run a wireless network (which is the only way I will be doing it), then you've got to pay another $80 for a X360 wireless network connection, where-as the PS3 60gb comes with a built-in wireless network system so you can connect to the wireless network in your house without any add-ons. 👍

Of course, that's really a matter of where you're net connection is in your house and what the other people in your house think of running cables from the net connection to the game system.

In any case, I believe the best way to make the decision is based on features and games with no concern for price.
The prices are so similar once you've got similar products and then any price difference that still exist after calculating a final price will still be modified due to the cost of online gaming with xbox live... Considering PS online is free, xbox live is $50 a year, then the cost of the two systems, I'd say the price difference is negligable (and that's without mention of the fact that the 360 with similar features may actually exceed the cost of the PS3).

Bottom line:
Choose based on games and features- not price. 👍

The Premium (or Pro, whatever) 360 is getting HDMI now, so you can just look for the HDMI logo on the box. Regardless, a 360 can still output 1080p over component (which is something most people don't believe).

I've got both systems. I love the PS3 to death, but ironically I use the X360 more. That is only because of the game library, though. Nothing is going to make me actually like the X360 anymore after my experiences with replacing it so many times (4th one now).

I don't know if I could choose one or the other, really. The PS3 has plenty of gaming potential, which isn't really being used much yet, but also has useful media features (and Blu-Ray). You can even put Linux on it and use it as a basic PC. The 360, on the other hand, has a great game library and matching online support.

Flip a coin?

can you play a ps3 without a HDTV??????

No way. I'm a pure racer! Racing games are the only games that really get me excited!

Well then it doesnt really get any better than Gran Turismo because thats a racers paradise...

Remember this time there is going to be far more to it, like the prospect of downloadable cars and tracks aswell as countless other features...

Plus youve got motorstorm and dirt both looking great on the PS3...

Well, its easy enough to say this. Get A PS3!!!!!! It solves your problem of getting a new console. Just read the post that others have give over which is better. A PS3 none the less. But i can recommend you not to get it so early if your unsure. Just wait till next year and your good to go (and buy a new console) cause by then GT5:P and the other racing titles should come out by then (maybe even TDU or TDU2)

I don't know if there was a PS3 special package there but is there a GT5:P special package? I mean there was a special package for both GT3 and GT4 in my country. So is PD going to make one for GT5 as well? I hope they do and sell it by next year.....

I don't know if there was a PS3 special package there but is there a GT5:P special package?

Currently theres a special PS3 package including Motorstorm which would be great start for a racing addict!
