ILink for only 2 PS2

I don't need a hub to cennect only 2 PS2 right ? I bought the ILink wire to connect 2 machines. I plugged everything and booted GT3 on each PS2. When I go to ILink section both machines have the same Machine ID (1). It seems like the 2 machines simply don't connect together....

Any idea anyone ?? I have no clue what's wrong with my setup.

i bought an i-link and tried it out and it works a treat...have you got the right lead?
 
I'm pretty sure... it's a firewire with 2 male connectors.

Do you have to set an option somewhere for the 2 PS2 to connect ? Or is it suposed to work on the fly just like that ??
