Anyone ever have one of these before? I have. Infact, I just got the 2 of them removed about 30 minutes ago. They don't really hurt that much if I keep them eleveated above my heart, which is kinda hard to do since I am at the computer desk. So, I am sitting sideways with my feet propped up on a pillow and my head cocked sidways looking at the monitor :P Anyway, I really really hope that t they don't grow back, because I would really like to get into walking/jogging alot more than I already am. Well, I think I better get away from the computer right now. Maybe I should go watch some TV? Oh well. Wish me a good recovery :P

How did they get ingrown in the first place? Naturally, or did you cut/pick your toenails way too short, and they started to grow down into your skin?:odd:

Good luck with the recovery. Hopefully it isn't too painful.:)

Where the nail grows down into the skin. Usually happens when you cut your toenails way too short, or if you cut too much off of the corners, and your nails don't grow over the top of the skin, but down into the skin rather.:scared:

Ouch.

Some of my fingernails start to cut into my skin, really painful.

I had an ingrown toenail before. I gre into the side of my toe. Anyway, I tried to cut the ingrown part out with toenail clippers and it ended up getting infected. Then I had to go on some antibiotics (spelling?).

Same here. Thanx for the encouragment Josh :) I'm surprised that they aren't hurting this morning. :D I woke up and I felt no pain. :D I hope it stays that way. THey did keep me up last night though. I stayed up untill 2:30 AM because I couldn't get to sleep. I couldn't find a very comfortable position because I have to keep my feet elevated above my heart. But I eventually found one and slept 'till 11:30 AM :D :P THen I watched Episode 2: Attack of the Clones.

Errr, I think I have them on my big toes. My dad had them and had to get them clipped or something.

I've been told I have this because I wear sports/gym shoes instead of boots?

I'm thinking my toe is like that right now . . . I went once and it was infected and I think instead of totally clearly up, the toenail became ingrown again and now I think it is infected again. This things sure a pain in the arse. Anyone one had both sides of the toenail become ingrown?

My big right toe is ingrown... or was. It filled up with puss, and one day I cut it really short but straight across, and that helped a lot. It started to get bad again last week, but hopefully it'll be fine. I have a bad habit of cutting my nails (toe and finger) too short and making them all rounded (I hate having the edges getting snagged on things.

A problem that needs a bit more attention is my fungus... All but two toes (incidentally, the exact middle toe on each foot) have a fungus problem (no, that doesn't mean moss is growing on them. :P It means that the nails get a bit thicker than normal, and they look white-ish instead of clear... not the kind of thing that goes well with sandals).

You have that problem with cutting the nails like that too, and both toes and fingers? I haven't ever really ever had a problem with the fingers though, other than the occassional too short of a cut.

i had it a few months ago...recovery was fun cause i just watched tv for like three days. the operation itself sucked...novicane doesnt help me much, and the guy cut the nasty stuff with a laser...so cold....

For all you people with ingrown toenails, try some Outgro. I've been using it for a couple days now and so far it has seemed to work pretty well. The area that was once fairly sensitive to being hit is no longer that sensitive to being hit. I'm hoping that further results come.

[EDIT] Nevermind. I'll ask my mom if we can stop by the store and pick some up after church. ( :grumpy: ) Thanks for the info, VashTheStampede!! :) [/EDIT]

Yep, not a problem. Well after using it even longer, it has seemed to work real well. I would definitely try the stuff if you are looking for something to help.

I had an ingrown toenail for about six months. Mine eventually gew out, but the pain was unbearable

God, this looks so familiar...

I tried a little home surgery, which worked however, but hurt more than anything I've ever felt before.
Anything to stop the aggrivation it was causing.
Popping and squeezing carefully didn't hurt much.
Then came actually getting the nail out .
I like bent it out with some tweezers and tried clipping it with mustache trimmers, but it like slipped out of the tweezers and bent back into the already throbbing area. I literally threw myself backwards and fell onto my back, foot in hand, but the pain of my back hitting the floor was nothing compared to what I felt in my toe. Luckily there were no Christians around. The stuff that came out of my mouth:embarrassed:.
I put some Orajel (toothache numbing gel) on the area (my toe)and left it for a while, then came back to finish the job. All it took was a clipping of the nail and it was like instant relief. Cleaned the area with soap and water, then alcohol for good measure . My final mistake. Healed up nicely though.

Vote for drifting.

I had an ingrowen toenail a couple of year's ago, I had to get two needle's before the doctor took the nail out and it hurt so much, then after the sergury I got Mcdonald's!:D

as soon as i feel it getting slightly painful, i stick tweezers in and rip it out, its not too painful because i didnt let it get too bad in the first place. once i have done that all pain goes away within an hour

And that's how they grown back in. I ended up having mine removed completely and it grew back in. I had it removed again and I'm going to a specialist to see about a wedge resection this Friday. Basically that cut out the ingrown side of the nail, open up your toe, remove the side of the growth plate (where the nail grows from) the grows in and then stitch it back up. The result is no nail on the side.

My other toenail has decided to grow in as well, so I'm going to ask about getting it done to it as well, as I don't want to take the chance with all the trouble I had with the other one. :grumpy:

That's my mentality.
I've had most major dental surgeries, and have grown frustrated with the pain to the point where I would rather have all my teeth pulled out and replaced with dentures instead of have to deal with another god damn needle. BUT, for some reason I was convinced that it would be too expensive, and now I have to go get four teeth pulled, including two wisdom teeth, then go to a different place and have braces put on my top row for two years.

Total Bill:
$5500

Guy at work's actually off today getting an ingrown toe nail dealt with. Frightened me into growing my toe nails long, I can tell you.

Hey! That sounds like me! Braces paid for, wisdom teeth taken out, surgery done for another thing because it needed to be done, root canal, and bridge. Fun stuff huh?

Fun stuff! Top or bottom?

Top.
Apparently one of the nerves wasn't dead, and the small amount of anasthetic that he used wasn't enough to supress the "white pain" I felt when he drilled through the tooth and into the nerve.
You know the kind of pain where your eyes squeeze shut and all you see/hear is the color white?
That kind of pain.
Sort of like when you see stars, but instead of seeing them, you are on the surface of one.
4 million degrees of "ARGH!".
