Testing: The process will consist of several races throughout the evening. We will switch up track locations after 3 races just to keep things interesting. We ask that you drive in the same respectful manner that you would during a normal race. Ballast will be awarded as during the season but drivers have the option on whether to apply the ballast or not. It is recommended that you do as it will give those unaccustomed to driving with additional weight an idea of it's impact on the car's performance. Drivers are also free to use any selectable car during these races as that may also help you decide which car to choose for the regular Season. Races will be 12 to 15 minutes long.

Welcome to the main page for Season 3 of the IRS GT-4 Championship Series! This series is open to all drivers. Following the first two successful and exciting seasons we are pleased to announce that Season 3 will feature a 10 race season with 3 of the events being Endurance Races of 90 minutes in length. These 3 Endurance events will award double points and will also form an Endurance Championship within Season 3.

This Championship will continue the tradition of only utilizing the FR and MR Group 4 cars within Gran Turismo Sport (please see the list of eligible vehicles below). Only three cars per manufacturer will be made available for competition. Car selection will be on a first come, first serve basis. Series organizers will post the date and time when drivers can request their vehicle of choice. Any vehicle requests made prior to this date and time will not be honored. This is to ensure that all participants have a fair chance at using their vehicle of choice.

The IRS GT4 Championship will also continue to use the Success Ballast System that has proven to generate exciting races through previous seasons. This series utilizes GT Sport's in game BoP for race 1. Following the results of Race 1 (and all subsequent races in the Championship) Success Ballast gets applied to the top 3 finishers in the following manner:

1st Place = 3% weight increase
2nd Place = 2% weight increase
3rd Place = 1% weight increase

The maximum amount of ballast a driver can accrue throughout the championship is 5% points. When a driver who has accrued ballast finishes outside of the top 3 in subsequent races 1% point will be removed from their total for the next event. These regulations are not intended to cripple faster drivers to the point that they are not competitive but instead, to bring drivers with different skill levels closer together on track. Drivers who miss a race will not lose any ballast that they may have accrued up to that point. The only way to shed success ballast is to finish off of the podium after competing in a race.

IMPORTANT
  • Signups will close after the 2nd points race. NO entries will be permitted after sign ups close. NO exceptions!
  • Late entries will automatically be placed in the Pro category. No exceptions!
Note: Drivers will be permitted to change cars before the start of the Season. A perfect opportunity to make that decision would be following the exhibition race(s). Once the season starts car changes will not be allowed. Choose wisely! Any driver that can not attend the exhibition race(s) should at least run some tests on their own or with others to get a feel for how competitive they will be. Maybe even apply some ballast in one of your tests if you think you may accrue some (ballast) during the season.

IMPORTANT - There will be an "Exhibition Race" held to determine whether there will be a need for a Pro and Pro-Am driver split within the series. If it is determined that drivers will be split into categories any participant who missed the classification event will AUTOMATICALLY be placed in the Pro split.

  • Using the stock livery is prohibited.
  • Any livery that contains foul language, pornographic material, and/or political themes is not allowed. Violation of this rule will result in the driver getting kicked from the race lobby.
  • Use of chrome paint chips is not allowed.
  • Official IRS GT4 Championship Series Number plates will be required. Cars must have this number board visible on both the driver side and passenger side doors. Display of the number board on the hood and the rear of the car are optional.
  • White Windshield banners must be used by PRO class drivers.
  • Black Windshield banners must be used by PRO-AM class drivers.
  • Headlight covers must remain clear.
  • Mid-season livery changes require race organizer notification. Minor alterations to the original livery are permitted if needed to correct imperfections or to add a secondary/small sponsor logo.
  • The official tire sponsor of the Championship Series is MICHELIN. MICHELIN logos must be placed on front of the vehicle in the area below the headlights and taillights. Designers may use the in-game MICHELIN logo or any reasonably similar custom logo.
  • Designers are free to use any lubricant, suspension, ignition sponsor logos they wish for their designs.
  • When designing your livery please be sure to select one of the default number boards in "Racing Items", upon doing so enter the number you will be using for this series then deselect the default/in game number board. The following is a tentative track list. Track substitutions could be made if PD adds new and compelling locations. If track changes are made during the season it will be done with as much advance notice as necessary to allow for competitors to practice at the new location.

Race Night Format

  • Day - Monday Nights at 9:00pm EST
  • Practice - Practice Lobby opens at approximately 8:30 pm EST
  • Qualifying - Qualifying starts at 9:00 pm EST - 20 minute session
  • Race - There will be a 5 minute break between Qualifying and the Race Start. All drivers must remain on track so times do not reset and the host can set the grid.
  • All races will be held in a Friends Only Lobby hosted by PSN ID = GentelmanRacing, unless otherwise specified.
  • Race starts will utilize a rolling start, however, lap 1 will be a FORMATION LAP. Vehicles are to maintain a safe distance to the vehicle in front. Weaving for the purpose of tire warming is permitted only in sectors 1 and 2 of the circuit. It is strictly prohibited in the final sector. Upon nearing completion of the formation lap drivers will form up the grid by filing into two rows based on starting position. The driver in Pole position has the choice as to what side of the Circuit they want to occupy at the start. At the conclusion of the formation lap, the driver on Pole will start the race upon approaching start/finish.
Endurance Race Night Format

  • Day - Monday Nights at 9:00pm EST
  • Practice - No Practice Lobby
  • Qualifying - Grid is set based on current Championship Standings
  • Race - In the interest of saving time the Race will start as soon as all participants are present in the Lobby, ready to race and the grid has been set by the host.
  • All races will be held in a Friends Only Lobby hosted by PSN ID = GentelmanRacing, unless otherwise specified.
  • Race starts will utilize a rolling start, however, lap 1 will be a SINGLE FILE FORMATION LAP. Vehicles are to maintain a safe distance to the vehicle in front. Weaving for the purpose of tire warming is permitted only in sectors 1 and 2 of the circuit. It is strictly prohibited in the final sector. Upon nearing completion of the formation lap drivers will form up the grid by filing into two rows based on starting position. The driver in Pole position has the choice as to what side of the Circuit they want to occupy at the start. At the conclusion of the formation lap, the driver on Pole will start the race upon approaching start/finish.
Races will utilize a Rolling Start Procedure with 1 FORMATION LAP.
  1. Speed is not to exceed 80 mph
  2. Keep a safe distance from the car in front during said formation lap.
  3. No tire warming in the final sector!
  4. Pole Position Driver chooses what side of the track to start the race on. Everyone else should file into position side by side accordingly. Even number behind even numbers and odd numbers behind odd numbers.
  5. No overtaking before the Start/Finish line!
  6. Any incidents in turn 1 involving 3 or more cars will result in a RESTART.
  7. Remember - HEAVY DAMAGE model is on.
  8. IMPORTANT: If a driver notices during the Formation Lap that they have been incorrectly placed on the grid they have the right to notify the participants of the issue through the in game chat function. All drivers will back out of the race so that the error can be corrected.
  • Qualifying will be set up in a Practice/Race lobby.
  • Time Limit: 20 minutes
  • Drivers who fail to post a qualifying lap for an event will be place at the tail end of the field by the game.
  • Tire wear and Fuel Depletion will be turned on and set to match race conditions during the qualifying session.
  • ALL DRIVERS are to remain on track once the organizer has called "Qualifying ended". This helps to assure that the order is documented properly and that the GRID can be set without error.
  • IMPORTANT: If a driver notices during the Formation Lap that they have been incorrectly placed on the grid they have the right to notify the participants of the issue through the in game chat function. All drivers will back out of the race so that the error can be corrected.

The series will follow the points structure listed above throughout the field. Meaning: even if there are two classes drivers will earn points for their overall finishing position. For example: the "winner" within the Pro-Am division will be awarded points based on their overall position. If they finish 5th overall but won 1st in their division they will earn 14 points, not 25 points.
In case of championship tie after the season finale: 1 Bonus point for most wins in the season. If there is still a tie for the lead then most podium finishes will be taken into account.

  1. If a vehicle goes off track due to driver error said vehicle SHALL re-enter the racing surface in a SAFE manner so as to avoid coming into contact with other cars. Failure to re-enter safely will incur a WARNING. Unsafe re-entry that results in contact with another vehicle will incur a 5 second time penalty to be assessed to the driver's total race time.
  2. A vehicle/driver who has left the racing surface no longer has a right to the racing line and must yield to the other drivers who are approaching on track so as to prevent an unsafe re-entry. Approaching drivers DO NOT have to yield the position or the racing line and have every right to continue on the racing line. Failure to re-enter safely will incur a WARNING. Failure to re-enter safely resulting in contact with another driver will incur a 5 second time penalty to be assessed to the driver's total race time.
  3. If two (or more) vehicles come into contact during the race (whether intentional or not)the striking driver SHALL wait for the vehicle struck to return to the racing surface and SHALL relinquish any position gained. Even if this means potentially losing positions to other racers approaching. Failure to adhere to this rule will incur a 5 second time penalty to be assessed to the driver's total race time.
  4. If two (or more) vehicles come into contact during the race (whether intentional or not) and the vehicle struck has to pit due to suffering damage, the striking vehicle SHALL wait for the vehicle struck to return to the racing surface and SHALL follow the damaged vehicle into the pit to execute a pit stop for repairs. Failure to adhere to this rule will incur a 15 second time penalty to be assessed to the driver's total race time. NOTE: If the driver of the damaged vehicle chooses not to pit for repairs/service until 1 lap after the damage occurred the striking driver will no longer be obligated to pit with them. The driver of the damaged car MUST activate their hazard lights as an indicator to the striking car that they have damage and intend to pit.
  5. A driver about to be lapped DOES NOT have a duty to pull aside to let faster cars through. In fact, this is highly discouraged UNLESS it can be done as far in advance to guarantee it will be done safely (i.e. on a long straight where the driver being lapped pulls off the racing line and activates its hazard lights to let ALL of the leaders through). It is best that drivers being lapped HOLD THEIR LINE and allow the faster drivers/leaders to attempt an overtake in a safe manner. Sudden movements to relinquish position by a driver being lapped often lead to confusion and collision. HOLD YOUR LINE, PLEASE. Failure to adhere to this rule will result in a WARNING. Failure to adhere to this rule that leads to an incident causing damage will incur a drive through penalty to be served within 3 laps of said incident.

NEWS UPDATE!!

A tentative agreement has been reached between Nissan and the IRS for a testing program to asses the viability of allowing the entry of the Nismo GT-R GT4 in Season 4 of the IRS Championship. A photo of the car can be seen below:

INCIDENT REVIEWS AND OUTCOMES

Race 1 Incident Reviews
Incident #1 - On lap 5 of the race GentlemanRacing rear ended jw_wk1010 causing damage. Following the contact GentlemanRacing waited for jw_wk1010 to re-enter without passing him. However, GentlemanRacing did not enter the pits when jw_wk1010 did and as a result gained position and continued racing. As a result, GentlemanRacing will be assessed a 30 second time penalty. 30 seconds will be added to his finish time which results in a drop from a 7th place finish to a 14th place finish.

Incident #2 - Incident between @racefan88 and @CPT_RowdyGiff on lap 27 - Incident Review Concluded.

On lap 27, while entering the final turn before the front straight, @CPT_RowdyGiff struck @racefan88. Both cars sustained damage but neither driver pitted. As a result of neither driver pitting, Rule #4 of the "Rules Regarding Contact" (and it's penalty) will not come into play here.

However, @CPT_RowdyGiff did not wait for @racefan88 to rejoin and relinquish the position gained through the contact. As a result @CPT_RowdyGiff will be assessed a 10 second time penalty. This results in the following change in the official order:

10th - racefan8850
11th - pie4july
12th - johnnyg_91

The Official Points Standings will be updated this evening to reflect this outcome.

It should be noted that @racefan88 was exhibiting some lag just 2 corners prior to the incident but at the time of this particular incident there did not appear to be any lag with either car.

Race 2 Incident Reviews
Incident #1 - At the start of the Race @Drummer1979 had a spin when exiting the second chicane. As a result @TheGeologist collided with the rear of Drummers Jaguar and suffered damage. Upon review this collision is determined to be a Racing Incident. No Penalty for either driver.

Incident #2 - On lap 18 @Drummer1979 lost control of his Jaguar while negotiating the Ascari chicane. When attempting to re-enter the track he re-entered in an unsafe manner and a result was struck by @TheGeologist who was negotiating the Ascari chicane and traveling at racing speed. Being a violation of Rule 1 in the "Rules Regarding Contact" @Drummer1979 is assessed a 10 second time penalty to be added to his finish time. It should be noted that this penalty does not affect the points or standings.


Race 3 Incident Reviews
Incident #1 - At the start of the race there was contact involving 3 cars. It started when @johnng91 rear ended GentlemanRacing about half way through the lap. Both cars sustained minor damage. Both drivers continued racing without pitting for repairs. There were no violations of the existing rules. Therefore, the outcome of the review is - a warning for avoidable contact but no time penalty will be assessed to either driver.

Incident #2 - At the start of lap 13 while entering Turn 1, three competitors were involved in a collision and sustained damage. @Timlour was in the lead with @R1600Turbo and @Mopowr following closely behind. Mopowr got on the brakes a touch late and rear ended R1600Turbo which caused Turbo's car to strike the right rear quarter of Timlour's car. The following damage was sustained:

Timlour - rear aero and right rear suspension
R1600Turbo - front and rear aero, as well as suspension damage (I forgot where but either right rear or left front)
Mopowr - front aero damage

To add insult to injury, both Timlour and Turbo were awarded substantial time penalties by the game.

There were no position changes after the contact as all drivers correctly obeyed rule #3.

However, all 3 drivers resumed racing but R1600Turbo chose to pit 2 laps later as the damage caused a noticeable loss of pace. Mopowr continued to race but eventually pitted as well (albeit this was close to a time when a normal pit stop could conceivably be made and remain on strategy.

It should be noted that Timlour suffered a mechanical/electrical failure on his vehicle (disconnect) and ultimately suffered a DNF unrelated to the contact.

Mopowr went on to win the race and Turbo fought on valiantly to finish on the podium in 3rd place.

This is a unique incident. Although all 3 drivers were in a lobby chat together there remained some uncertainty as to what the striking driver should do.

Per Rule #4 a striking driver is required to "the striking vehicle SHALL wait for the vehicle struck to return to the racing surface and SHALL follow the damaged vehicle into the pit to execute a pit stop for repairs. Failure to adhere to this rule will incur a 30 second time penalty to be assessed to the driver's total race time." Since Turbo did not pit immediately Mopowr was uncertain what he should do. This was compounded by the fact that the incident occurred so close to a "normal" pit window.

A modification of the rules will be made which will apply to races going forward in order to attempt to account for a similar situation should it arise in the future (knock on wood). Also, going forward a driver who sustained damage after being struck will be required to activate their "Hazard Lights" so that the striking driver may be made aware that they have damage AND intend to pit on that lap for repairs.

It is improper form to modify rules and then impose penalties retroactively in order to address an incident.

In this circumstance the contact was not intentional but it's impact on the outcome can not be denied.

Considering the rules at the time of the incident and taking into account the fact that all drivers involved were in chat as a mitigating factor (they could have communicated more clearly about the circumstances at hand) the following penalty has been assessed:

Mopowr is assessed a 5 second penalty to be added to his finish time - this takes into consideration the fact that the contact appeared to be unintentional and that he did pit shortly after Turbo. However, if the stop had been conducted as prescribed in rule#4 (wait for the other car to take repairs) he would have waited for Turbo to get repairs and then resumed racing. As opposed to taking a regular stop during a potentially "normal" pit window after having gained a position.

The finishing order for the top 4 after the penalty time is added will be as follows:

1st - Whitey093
2nd - Mopowr
3rd - R1600Turbo
4th - Moby45

It is my sincere hope that this outcome viewed as fair given all of the circumstances/variables involved.

THIS INCIDENT HAS BEEN RE-EXAMINED!

Immediately after striking @R1600Turbo, causing damage to their vehicles and forcing two other drivers off of the racing line @Mopowr then waited as Turbo burned off the 6 second penalty that was given to him by the game.

Considering this - it is clear that @Mopowr (as well as Turbo) lost a considerable amount of time waiting to clear the penalty. At least the equivalent of 5 seconds.

The finish order now reverts to the original -

1st - Mopowr
2nd - Whitey093
3rd - R1600Turbo
4th - Moby45


Incident #3
- On the final lap while entering turn 1 @racefan88 slightly tapped @CPT_RowdyGiff sending his car slightly off-line and causing the game to give Rowdy a 2 second off track penalty which he would carry 1.9 seconds of through the end of the lap/race. Throughout the rest of the lap @racefan88 and Rowdy would continue to battle for position with Rowdy finishing ahead of racefan by less than a car length. As you could imagine, Rowdy would carry that penalty and GTSport dropped Rowdy (Johnnyg91) back one position in the final results. @CPT_RowdyGiff should not have suffered a 2 second penalty for an off track violation. The game is nuts for doing that.

Result - league officials are eliminating that unnecessary 2 second penalty that was erroneously assigned which results in a swap of finish positions between @CPT_RowdyGiff and @racefan88

7th - Johnnyg91
8th - racefan8850

Points will be updated Saturday night.

RACE 5 INCIDENT REVIEWS
Incident #1- On lap 30 @CPT_RowdyGiff /johnnygand @DesertPenguin were battling when johnnyg got his right rear tire out into the sand, lost control momentarily and then his car came back on track right onto the racing line. At that point @DesertPenguin had nowhere to go and the two cars came into collision. As a result, both cars sustained damage but @DesertPenguin suffered engine damage and was forced to pit. Johnny did not pit (despite being asked via text chat about it by @DesertPenguin). Due to the circumstances johnnyg will receive a 5 second time penalty added to his finish time. However, this does not change the finish order or the points total.

In General - There was quite a bit of unintentional contact during the early laps of the race at RBR. Sadly, the games penalty update had created the issue of giving innocent drivers ridiculous time penalties. Please keep that in mind during the early laps. Thus far those penalties have been burned off through the course of the race and has not impacted the finishing order. If it were to the penalty would be evaluated and just as it was at Catalunya when there was an incident between @bigbeefytaco and @racefan88. Thanks for your patience and for racing in the series.

RACE 9 INCIDENT REVIEWS
Incident #1 - Late in the race @Timlour appeared to be suffering from some lag. As he and @R1600Turbo were battling for position the lag/net code struck and the game appeared to calculate that Turbo rear ended Timlour and pushed him off track. It should be noted that the replay does not show contact but Timlour is pushed off track and loses the lead to Turbo. Turbo fails to wait and relinquish the position. Rule #3 States as follows:

"If two (or more) vehicles come into contact during the race (whether intentional or not)the striking driver SHALL wait for the vehicle struck to return to the racing surface and SHALL relinquish any position gained. Even if this means potentially losing positions to other racers approaching. Failure to adhere to this rule will incur a 5 second time penalty to be assessed to the driver's total race time."

Therefore, @R1600Turbo will be issued a 5 second time penalty. The race finish times were as follows:

R1600Turbo - 50.59.556
Timlour - 51.04.638

As a result there is no position change at the front. @R1600Turbo keeps the win by .082 of a second.

I have ultimately chosen to go with option #2 because I believe it can work and because R1600Turbo and Timlour absolutely deserve to continue to enjoy the series. They are a pleasure to try and keep up with and provide true value to the series in that regard. The only way to get better is to race with the best. I thank those guys for taking the time to race in this series. It should be noted that there will not be an "Elite" driver class as a lobby of the size allowed by PD would result in a diluted field. So Pro and Pro-Am it will be.

I don't know if you guys remember but when I first started this series the intent was to only allow DR B drivers in the series. The reason I came up with that idea was to be relatively certain that the Success Ballast that would be awarded from race to race would spread out through the field since the driver skill would be much closer to begin with.

I moved away from that stance because as the series concept was a new one (I had not seen it proposed in this format before) I was concerned, and some people remarked, that I would be limiting my entries and potentially dooming the series to have low participation.

The other concern was that a drivers DR is not always a reflection of their true skill level.

In my opinion Season 2 has been a successful endeavor. However, I can't get over the feeling that because we have two drivers essentially dominating the podium spots every week the defining feature of the success ballast and it's intended effect is being diluted/nullified by the presence of the ELITE drivers (as I will refer to them).

You see; on any given race week there are up to 6 percentage points of Success Ballast to be doled out. 3% for 1st, 2% for 2nd and 1% for 3rd. Once the Elite drivers reach their max and continue to attain podium spots (which has most often been 1st and 2nd) then the amount of ballast to be assigned is reduce down to 1% point. That is most unfortunate. Unfortunate mostly for drivers who most often contest in the mid-pack and to the rear of the field.

With the present circumstance the races will continue to follow this pattern which is ….well, unfortunate.

This was why I originally wanted to limit the series to DR B drivers.

That being said the Elite drivers are great guys and have been dedicated to the series so it is unfair to just cut out/exclude anyone.

So, what is there to do?

Some Ideas
  1. Designate certain drivers as ELITE and create a fair scheme to impact their pace without crippling them - like the start the series with 5% Ballast? This would be horrible. IMHO
  2. Assign Success Ballast per class for ex. - Elite, Pro and Am
  3. Set the series to only allow DR B drivers or below again - as originally intended? Unfair after 2 Seasons of permitting all drivers?
  4. Carry out idea #3 but open up the GT Masters Series to everyone with a qualifying session to be able to enter the series? Fast driver series - GT4 Series could then be a "Support Series" where drivers/champions "graduate" to the GT Masters Series. Problem is - GT Masters is not established as a series yet (if it ever does get popular)

6 percent for first 4 for second 2 for third. 10 percent max and shed 2 percent per race finished off podium? We could run some tests see if it may even things out a bit? I'm personally ok with leaving it as is.

Car choice is going to be a tough one for me.

Just ran some laps at Interlagos with Dodge, Honda, Hyundai, and the Aston Martin and I don't know what to pick.

Usually I pick Viper every single time, but I couldn't come close to the pace I ran with the Honda and the Aston Martin. I quit straight away with the Hyundai, so I think I'm down to the Honda and the Aston Martin.

I seem to be more consistent with the Aston Martin, and I throughly enjoyed driving it in the IRS 2 hr at Interlagos.

With the Honda, I have more overall pace, but I'm sliding around everywhere. I didn't try any setups on the cars, so I believe that could be solved, but I could be in trouble with weight ballast penalties.

But of course, I'll always love my Viper. Just thinking of using a different car legitimately makes me feel bad lol. I was very much off pace though, I'm not sure I could just stick it out.

This will be a tough one, I have to do a lot more testing.

Remember to consider fuel consumption and tire wear.

The Aston is a great all around car with excellent power. You couldn't go wrong with that car. I myself am in between a few cars. Not sure if I should stick with the vette or make a move. My testing is inconclusive this far. Plenty of time before season 3 starts, no need to rush it.

Sorry for the delayed response.

We actually have seen consistent numbers in this series. Even with the issues starting the race early in the season.

There is also a reserve list which I believe will help with this.
