Yes, school's just around the corner for a lot of us, while some of us have already started. So, what do all of you have to buy for this upcoming school year?

Me:

nothing, except a car (which is coming soon  ) and school parking permit

I dont have to buy anything. Just bring myself to school and study :dunce:

Edit : And its absolutley not my favorite time of the year. And I start this wednesday :(

hmm
-My shoes are kinda beaten up and my knees aren't too happy for it - so definately shoes
-I have to start a new laptop lease with my school if I want to continue studying there
-I've got about $300 left to spend in silencing my desktop (it's damn hard to focus with that loud humming and water cooling will do what I need)
-another $60-100 to update my wireless router to be able to handle the extra traffic that will happen with data transfer between the laptops and my desktop
-$500ish on textbooks
-It'll also be time to update my glasses prescription really soon
-monthly pass for transit and I can bet that there will be yet another price hike :irked:

Man, at the end of last years school year my $130 TI-83 Plus Silver was stolen, I sound like a total nerd but I really liked that calculator. I was so scared to tell my parentes that I basically lost a $130 piece of equipment that...I still haven't told them I don't have it or have any idea where it is. And here I am, exactly one week before school starts and I'm stranded with no calculator and a Precalculus Honors and a Physics Honors class looming over my head. What am I gonna do!! UGH!!

So yeah, bascially all I need is $130 or a new TI-83.

Oh boy my first year in A levels, this is gonna be fun.

I will need to buy stationary, resource books.... erm thts it i think...

Great thing is that here, 6th formers dotn have uniform

I'm happy for it to arrive. Freedom, friends from last semester and I get to ditch my 56k.

I don't have anything to buy, though I'll probably need furniture.

Since I'm starting University, back to school shopping is a whole new can of worms for me.

So far, I've bought tons of stuff, including some new clothes (I still could use more), new shoes , some dishes and some cutlery. I still need to buy a new computer (I just bought Windows, a keyboard and mouse, and a surge protector today), some other electronic goodies (SD Card for a digital camera, battery recharger with rechargeable batteries), and other random crud that I need for living on my own. It's been fun so far, and buying and building my own computer is going to be a great experience (I should be buying the rest of the components on Wednesday, or possibly even tomorrow).

I'm desperately trying to find a new hello-kitty pencil sharpener since my old one broke.

Luckily though my dinosaurz schoolbag is still intact.

On a more serious note I'm really looking forward to school this autumn. :)

School uniforms are, if you think about it, great.

Firstly, everyone wears the same thing. This means that no kids get picked on for not having the "latest" clothes, and no kids get stressed trying to GET the "latest" clothes.

There's no decisions what to wear the next day.

This is all conducive to why you're actually AT school - to learn things. The less your mind is worrying about social niceties like what you MUST buy because Leanne said to Dawn that Cherise's skirt had a pleat on the left side (Tch!) and Danielle-Michelle-Kerrianne-Leigh and her got in a big fight about it, and Tyler and Kyle saw it and she's mortified because (oooh, spare me)... the MORE your mind is concentrating on things you SHOULD know. Take Einstein - didn't give a rat's about his clothes, won the Nobel Prize. Porked Marilyn Monroe too - take note...

Also, you get used to identifying people by their face, rather than their clothes. So no-one can throw you by wearing an orange shirt one day.

From a parental point of view, THEY don't have to get all stressed buying the kids the "latest" clothes. Whilst uniforms can be expensive to buy initially, kids will get around 2/3 years' wear out of each set, rather than 3 weeks' wear out of a set of clothing which is "in" during February and then "out" in March.

Uniforms are GOOD.

Why not get contacts?
I'm not comfortable with putting anything into my eyes. I have a hard enough time with eye drops. It's also hard to break old habits. I've been wearing glasses for probably 12 years now.

Started the 2nd week of school today. Pretty cool stuff.

I'm fundraising with chips for the choral department, and I sold like 25 bags from just walking up and down the bus lanes looking for my bus. it's kind of funny when kids are hanging out the windows going "YO LEMME GET SOME CHEEIPS!"/slang. I feel like the beer/peanuts guy at football and baseball games.

I've seen people walk into class wearing their PJ's. You don't have to worry about clothes. Everyone will be too tired to give a damn. Comfort is numero uno when you've got multiple 3 hour lectures in one day.

Just make sure you don't play any MMO games. Those things WILL make you suffer in classes. Also try not to go to the train station when you've had less than 8 hours of sleep in the entire week prior. You WILL wake up somewhere in Pickering or any other small town out in the middle of nowhere right when you have one last, killer exam the day after. I learned that the hard way.

Other than that, enjoy the 180 degree turn your life and personality will take over the next few years :)

Pajamas are so disrespectful.

...Unless you're wearing some Howard Hughes drawers.

Might just have to try that one day..... :dunce:

I'll just get some new t-shirts or something. I want to get a couple from Busted Tees, but otherwise I'm not too picky. I also need to pick up some new ties and shirts for game days.

Other'n that I'll just scrounge up some pencils and paper.

I've got everything I need for college, minus the school supplies... :dunce:

Game day, eh? Which sport would that be?

Famine makes some good points, that are all true for the most part. But try telling a teenager he has to wear the same thing every day. As a student it must be bad, and I'm sure glad I didn't have to wear one. One point for the other side, is that letting kids dress how they want lets them show off individuality and personality. :sly:
