The Koenigsegg Jesko, the Swedish brand's successor to the Agera RS, makes its grand debut with up to 1,600 horsepower (1,193 kilowatts) at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The new hypercar's name comes from Jesko von Koenigsegg, the father of the automaker's founder, Christian von Koenigsegg.

The Jesko uses a revised version of Koenigsegg's 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that produces 1,280 hp (955 kW) on gasoline or 1,600 hp on E85. The mill produces peak torque of 1,106 pound-feet (1,500 Newton-meters) at 5,100 rpm, and there is over 738 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) available between 2700 and 6170 revs. The rev limit is a lofty 8,500 rpm.

The upgraded V8 includes pieces like a new 180-degree flat-plane crankshaft, revised intake, and larger turbos. A patent-pending air injection system can shoot 290.1 pounds per square inch (20 bar) of air into the turbos to spool them early and prevent lag.

The updated engine hooks up to Koenigsegg's new nine-speed gearbox that the company calls the Light Speed Transmission. It's a multi-clutch box similar in theory to existing dual-clutch setups, but the layout doesn't require moving sequentially through the cogs. As the firm explains the inner workings: "The Koenigsegg LST will allow you to shift directly from 7th to 4th at lightning speed, without waiting for synchronization."

Drivers operate the Light Speed Transmission from two-position paddle shifters. The initial, shorter pull operates the gearbox like a traditional dual-clutch unit by moving sequentially through the gears. A second, farther notch puts the vehicle immediately into the gear that offers the best acceleration at that point.

The Jesko now uses Koenigsegg's Triplex damper system at the front and rear, rather than just the back on the Agera. The active adjustments maintain the ride height during high aerodynamic loads but without compromising grip at low speeds. To further aid handling, the new model gains adaptive rear-wheel steering that considers factors like wheel speed, steering angle, engine speed, and acceleration.

Aesthetically, the Jesko looks like an evolution of the Agera RS, but Koenigsegg pays attention to the details. The body produces 2,205 pounds (1,000 kilograms) of downforce at 171 miles per hour (275 kilometers per hour) – a 40-percent boost over the Agera RS. To tweak the aerodynamics, there are active flaps at the front of the underbody and a self-adjusting wing at the back.

Koenigsegg's announcement doesn't offer details about when deliveries of the Jesko begins.
