Since buying GT5 I have found about 2 maybe 3 lobbys where the racing was at an acceptable level, GT5 is a sim and yet you have so many noobs trying to win the race at the first corner or using you as there breaks. I think PD should have a lobby for racers who actually have some skill and want to race clean. I've been watching some races on youtube showing online pc sims like iracing and rfactor and the racing is on another level, they have respect for there opponents. Maybe thats the problem, maybe console sims can never be sims because of the calibur of drivers on consoles. I know there are some great racers on consoles but they are usually the victim of noobs as i have been since the release of gt5.

Yeah, sweet, finally someone starts an 'online sucks' rant. Can't all of them be merged or a rant stickie created?
I can't hear it anymore. If you don't like it leave it. There's been a lot of very good advise on how to get a clean lounge given in all the previous threads.

'Sarcasm off' - no personal offense intended. Just saying.

Tips

-Never go into races without hp and weight restrictions

-Be wary of races with aids on, especially SRF. I don't like to stereotype, but it seems as though the less dedicated drivers love to use traction control and things like that

-Look out for low hp races. Again, a lot of the non serious drivers seem to hate less than 500 hp.

-Theme races - Titles like "Super GT" and "Group C", etc seem to attract more dedicated drivers. At the very least a person who doesn't know what those are and enters his tuned Enzo into the race will probablt just get kicked by the host.

-Get together with GTP drivers. Use the online forum and chat room.

I hope that helps. For me, the majority of online racing has been great.

I'm hoping to start finding some decent rooms because ive nearly completed a spec and i want some decent races maybe im just unlucky ill keep those tips in mind thankyou

No offence, but I think you are just trying to use this as a way of going on about your own skill. You'll find many races in which there are good drivers and clean racing and you can just kick the people that drive backwards. What is wrong with trying to win the race at the first corner so long as you don't deliberatley hit anyone or do something stupid?

I really wish my internet was good enough to reliably play online. I lag too much and I don't like to race people with it. But yeah I was racing last night. 500hp and 1150kg limit. I qualified first and got rear ended off the track by someone who didn't bother to brake.

I hate wrecking noobs in NASCAR events, but I always try to race hard but fair.

Exorcet, couldn't have said it better myself.

While it may be true that only about 5% of online drivers are worth sharing a track with, there ARE good, clean racers out there, if you have a little patience and follow the steps outlined above. Make sure you have a mic and don't hesitate to add quality room hosts to your friends list, if and when you do find them.

Haven't really had an issue. Lately online been getting into some decent lobbys that actually race a minute after the race has just finished.

I haven't had an issue. Basically as Exorcet stated, just try rooms with restrictions and penalties.

So far, I have met very good drivers and have enjoyed the races online.

I understand a slight bump to the back, or maybe some scrapes as you try to overtake, or even that guy who breaks super early and causes everyone behind him to bump into each other. I can tolerate that stuff, but the people I meet in GT5 are just horrible! I'm going into a corner, and this guy comes full speed ramming me off the road, but he comes through just fine because he used me instead of his break pedal! And another time, I was going down a straight, and this guy comes to my rear side and actually tried to pull off a pit maneuver on me!

And you know those "good simulation racers?" Well the ones I actually faced, even though drive well, are actually kind of douchebags. They seem pretty cocky and complain about the tiniest things. I was driving, and I cut a small corner to put myself in front, and this guy started cussing and telling me how I was a crap driver. Jeez, it was just a tiny corner!

If you want to stay away from crappy drivers, avoid NASCAR rooms. Which is a shame because it's so much fun when everyone isn't trying to PIT maneuver the person infront of them or ramming them into pit road.

thanks for the feedback, like i said i just want to race some fair races, incidents do happen but a simple apoligy would be fine but 90% of the people who ram you just laugh. ill try some of the things you have said to se if it helps

I hate to say it, but most of the better (read cleaner) drivers are probably in private rooms. I've played GT5 for many, many hours online but the only time I've wandered into the public area was to randomly spectate on a few races--something I still do from time to. After what I saw, maybe only 10% of the lobbies I looked at had truly clean, quality racing. Public lobbies are very much a battlefield and I just can't be bothered. And I'm not alone in thinking this. What goes on there is pure 'gaming' and very little to do with real racing.

Over the years, across a wide spectrum of racing games, I've pretty much filled my PSN friend list to capacity with quality, fair racers. And few of them wander into public lobbies anymore either. The only public lobbies I would consider joining are:

1. Rooms with VERY tightly controlled filters. HP/weight/tires and NO assists. Especially skid recovery.
2. Shuffle races.
3. Rooms where I see at least 1 or more people I know. Because the people I normally race with wouldn't put up with baloney.

Of course, it's easy to argue that I never would have ended up with a full PSN friend list if I never played in public lobbies and met up with these people in the first place. And that's true. We all have to start somewhere. But I have no desire to go back where I started.

My best suggestion, if you haven't already done so is to run the GTP qualifier. (Well, it just ended but I'm sure they'll be another one). Then you can enter official GTP events where clean racing is strictly enforced. Once you take part in a few events, your PSN friend list will likely fill up pretty quickly.

Not gonna lie, the first thing I did just to test out GT5's online feature was enter an SS7 drag race... once I saw that people couldn't even handle driving in a straight line, I kinda gave up on the rest of the tracks.

Agreed. And why can't people drive back on the shoulder when others are racing on both lanes?

It's common sense, which some people obviously don't have. Unless, they're just being morons...

Usually, online is a hit or miss for me.

completely agree with you!!! i have tried many times to play online but the results were quite disappointing. the good rooms are about 1 to 10. i don't care if i win, i just want to find a good race. for example i was in a room full of x1s going anywhere they want and other cars just hitting its other and one or two of the players were going backwards :grumpy::crazy:and this was only in the preview i didn't even get to the pit lane.... at the other side before about a week i was in a room that was absolutely perfect and now can not find it...

last week i've got into a drift lobby, and the host decided to run a one make drift race with a tesla roadster in tsukuba, things were going great for a while, since everyone really race clean, anyway i was first in the last lap, but on the last sharp turn before the 3rd gear corner, some jerk decided to ram me while i was drifting send me to the wall, resulting me crossing the finish line in 2nd, after the race, the guy that rammed me quickly exited the drift, this is one of the reason the online sucked, almost everyone cannot take loss and will do everything to win, including ramming and such, i wish the online have a penalty about ramming or something

It does. Most rooms don't have it turned on though.

I don't have trouble finding some decent rooms, but I usually find one full-contact driver in these rooms.

Sometimes I think I'm giving the other players the impression that I'm a dirty driver, because sometimes I get so caught up in the action that I'll make mistakes. :dunce: For example, I may be catching up to someone in a long straightaway, my eyes end up concentrating on the car ahead, and I completely forget about the turn coming up. I always brake hard and swerve out of the way, but not every car has good quality brakes, or turning ability while braking.

Which makes me thankful that the host turned on the penalty system to allow fast cars to ghost through slower cars in a turn.

A question: Is blocking considered a clean move? I've met players who would intentionally drive in front of me on a straight to prevent me from overtaking.

I agree that there are a lot of idiot drivers, but there are just as many quality drivers and people looking for clean races. All online console games have them, so we have to deal with it to an extent.

I have been racing online for a week or so but have found that a lot depends on the host. If the host sets up a race with good regulations that weeds out a lot of bad drivers. Bad drivers don't like 9 sec shortcut and collision penalties.

I also send friend requests to the people i race with for a while who are clean racers.

👍 And not everyone who plays the game is old enough to drive a real car.

This is irrelevant. Some of the best drivers/racers I've encountered in rFactor and other sims are under 16 years old.

I wish there was a way for PD to create wheel only and controller only rooms and that there was a way for the PS3 the detect which method you are playing with.

Its really true in some cases what I really hate is working my behind off to go into some rooms and people are using aids

Go to rooms that don't allow aids. I've found many great drivers online in GT5. The best seem to be in Super GT 300 and 500 servers with longer races than most servers (over 10 laps usually), and no aids allowed.

Also, when you have a good clean battle with someone, add them to your friend list, then you can always find the servers they're in and good drivers tend to pick servers with other good drivers. I haven't used the "Open Lobby" part of GT5 since the first day I went online. Once you get some good drivers on your friends list, you no longer need to search for servers and pray the drivers are good.
