well as some may know Tommi Mäkinen lapped around Nur. with the new wrx sti sedan with a record breaking 7.55 breaking a sedan record for its class type...
Can you do the same ?

bone stock straight out of dealership to nur

Post your times.. everything off except ABS grip set to real...

The stock tyres have way too much grip, I used comfort softs and the times did match.

Edit: In order to completely match his time, one should be aiming at something like 8:00 because the finishing point in the game does not match the one in his lap, it's a little further.

2.4 seconds of the mark... With a pad, though.

Either way, I've got to say, it's quite impressive how darn fast that thing is. Gotta love Subaru! One of my favourite cars to drive in the game, by the way.
Either stock, or with the fully customizable suspension and a set of soft sports tyres.

But it's still one lap? I don't follow how it would make any difference, with a rolling start. He didn't drive less far.

Yeah did he do it with rolling start or from a dead stop?

How is it usually measured when manufacturers give their best Nurb times? Just wondering. I'll have to buy a new one, I have irreversible mods on mine. This should be fun though. I own an '09 2.5i 4 door 5-speed. Surprisingly fun car in real life even with only 175hp.. especially in the snow with traction control and stability control turned off. ;-)

They never do a full lap, I've just watched december's best motoring with a skyline time attack on nurb in 7.15 and they start at same place that in the game but it ends just after they take the last turn where the asphalt on your left stops. Kinda weird. Didnt saw the wrx one tho so can't say exactly.

From Wikipedia about Nordschleife:

Not all of the following lap times are comparable. A full lap of the Nordschleife, bypassing the modern GP track, is 20.832*km (12.944 mi) long. Most laps are completed 200*metres (656 ft) shorter for safety reasons. Full uninterrupted flying laps can only be done in closed sessions and race events like Castrol-Haugg-Cup.

During the industry testing sessions in which sport auto records its "Supertest", the track can not be traveled at full speed past "Tribüne 13" (T13, grandstand 13) in order to allow safe access from the old exit/entrance there. Thus, sport auto Supertests cover only about 20.6*km (12.8 mi), which in average yields a 7 s shorter lap time compared to a full lap.

It was exactly as you described.

So basically we do a full flying lap and then subtract 7 seconds.. IF that's the way Tommi Mäkinen lapped in 7:55.

I think I have that Tommi Mäkinen 7:55 lap vid on my PS3 (I'm on the PS3 browser now).. I'll check to see if that's how he did it, if I can tell from the vid I have.

Ok, this is the vid I have on my PS3 (awesome 1080p quality BTW)

In the description there are links that are worth checking out

It's 7:30 on a cool May morning at the Nürburgring. I strap into the (left-side) passenger seat of the STI prototype used a month prior to set Subaru's latest lap time. We're given the all-clear for a half-hour of 'Ring fun.

2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI Sets Nürburgring Lap Record - Feature http://www.caranddriver.com/feature...ts_nuerburgring_lap_record-feature?cid=952011

Subaru Impreza WRX STI Sedan - Car News http://www.caranddriver.com/news/car/10q1/2011_subaru_impreza_wrx_sti_sedan-car_news?cid=95

Will have to check it out, maybe someone can make sense of it.

EDIT- Uh ohh
"The stickler is that the Subaru in question wasn’t a production car. It was, in the words of the company, a 2011 Impreza WRX STI prototype. The car is basically the bastard child of two JDM-only models with some extra bespoke aero bits thrown in for slipperiness and high-speed stability."

It gets worse in that article above. We could maybe match the prototype with upgrades?? More investigation needed.

EDIT2 LOL
- from the article-
"Afterward, when we asked how much time Mäkinen had on the track before the record run, one of the Subaru guys laughed. “We asked him to learn the circuit on PlayStation, but he never did it.” The Finn’s response: “I wanted to, but it was the Japanese version.” A certain Herr Schmidt, a German member of the STI development team who is very familiar with the Nürburgring, took Mäkinen out the first time he was at the track and showed him around. He told me that a normal person needs about 50 laps to improve his time. Mäkinen did so in maybe five. “He ran unbelievably quickly.” "

I set my best attemp at this "challenge" yesterday, doing a 7:54.154. I'll post the video on youtube later 👍

Was doing the 4 hour mazda mx-5 Tsukuba endurance race yesterday / today.. will try to run a few laps and see if I can get close.

Yeah a stock 2011 WRX STI isn't running 7:55 around the RING not even close.

The car that ran the 7:55 was FAR from a stock 2011 WRX STI

In reality they'd be lucky to get a 8:25 out of a stock 2011WRX STI.

The EVO X MR is much quicker and even it is no where near 7:55.

If you want challenge try the subaru sedan wrx sti spec-c type ra '05 with comfort softs. Time to beat: 7:59:41

With sports hard it is really easy but with comfort softs you need to earn it :)

I was reading up on some of the times that have been set (here) and in the engine notes it says they were also running a bigger turbo as well.

Subaru EJ207 engine from a 2010 JDM Subaru Impreza WRX STi R205 with larger turbo producing 320 bhp (239 kW; 324 PS)

After a little research I'm guessing they added 16 HP from the stock version.

It also says he ran the full 20.8km track not the 20.6km safe version.

The car starts with the suspension from the improved-for-2011 WRX STI—it’s 5 mm lower than the 2010 model, with 1-mm-thicker front and rear anti-roll bars, higher-rate springs all around, stiffer rear-subframe bushings, and new front-suspension pillow-ball bushings.

Weight is saved through the use of an aluminum hood from the spec.c, unique aluminum front fenders, the spec.c’s smaller battery, and the deletion of the radio as in the R205 and spec.c.

Extra aero parts specific to this car include a full undertray, a front-lip extension tacked onto the R205’s lower spoiler, and a Gurney flap added—taped, really—to the rear at Mäkinen’s request.

I'm sure we could emulate these changes with maybe a stage 1 weight reduction, a medium turbo dialed down to 320hp and sports suspension set accordingly. A little bit of extra weight reduction should make up for the aerodynamic improvements Subaru made without adding a wing (if it can even take one, can't remember). Unfortunately once you start modifying the car it becomes almost impossible to verify that people are using the proper settings and not tuning the car further than it should be.

No disrespect to Tommy, but that one of the guys from best motoring did a 7:56 with an NSX Type R. Not only is the NSX much older, it probably wasn't as "prepped" by Honda as that Sti was by Subaru, if it was even prepped to begin with. Also Tommy never used heel-and-toe at all, whereas the Best Motoring driver used HAT on every downshift.

He's also running on a bright, sunny and most importantly dry day whereas Tommy was complaining of the track still being a little damp.

And isn't the NSX one of the only production road cars that actually produce downforce with the shape of the body? It seems like that would be a huge advantage. Look how high up in the air an Impreza is. I know I have one. I'm 5'9'' and have about 10 inches of headroom, if not more.

Nsx-r is also much quicker car. More power, less weight, less driventrain losses due to being rwd, much neutral handling due to having the engine in the middle.

Also the car Tommi was driving had teh driver's seat on the right side. Plus if he really did that lap after just 5 laps of practise without really knowing the track I'd say it is damn impressive. Even if the subie could go 10s faster with all the mods it's still impressive imho.

Plus every nordschleife track record is pretty much faked some what. Using different tires, taking weight off the car, doing little mods there and there, editing the video and whatever. With the track being so focused on high speeds it is very tempting for a manufacturer to "ensure" the engine is really putting all its power in use...

I highly doubt the larger turbo gave it just 320hp- they're trying to down play that big time. That car was making at least 400hp.

Regardless a stock 2011 WRX STI is no where near a 7:55 car. TOTAL BS.

In the game it my be but in real life not even remotely close.

the CTS-V, which is widely regarded as the fastest stock four door in the world, did it's 'ring lap in 7:59. it has 520 horsepower and is only one size bigger than the STi. I highly doubt the subaru only had 320 horsepower. 380 seems more realistic.

the 2011 STi is fast, but not THAT fast.

Good point on the CTS-V but I wouldn't really consider the 2011 STi "fast". It isn't exactly slow either but like I before I would be surprised if it could run better than 8:25.

And you're right about the power. No way in hell the upgraded turbo gave it just 320hp. It's amazing how many they've fooled with that BS 7:55 claim.

Whoever buys a 2011 WRX STi thinking it's capable of 7:55 is going to be in for one hell of a surprise.

The STI was modified with a few things, and is probably a foregleam of the next limited edition S20x STI. The stock car in the game won't quite match it.
