I know this sounds so stupid but how do you 'launch' a car from the starting line? Do you keep the revs at the redline?

Definitely not redline. Not sure if it makes any difference in GT6 as I haven't tested it, but "launching" from an rpm near the peak torque output would be better.

Dependant on whether it's for racing or for drag racing, but the suspension setup can make a huge difference to launch RPM and traction.

I did some 0 to 100 kph launches in a FWD without driving aids yesterday. Stock&oil change Civic Type-R 2008 on CM tyres, which may or may not give similar traction to street tyres of molecular rubber. Best I could do was 8.15 s; I used a replay for the figures. I didn't check what Honda has said, though.

The tyre indicator may be of use, you shouldn't get red much.

Since I'm not techy when it comes to torque peak and stuff like that, I just try to find the spot were you can give the most gas without creating wheelspin. It has worked for me ever since GT1. It was particularly easy to test this in GT5 with the speed test option. But no... PD decided it was okay to take that option from GT6...

I think the best way to do it is by using the launch control feature that is on all cars. Here's how you do it:

1.) Put it in 1st and set the E-brake.
2.) Apply 25% throttle. The revs will rise and stabilize. Don't have any more input as the E-brake will release.
3.) When ready or at the start of the race, mash the gas and watch it go!

Alternatively with higher HP cars, you can launch in 2nd or even 3rd gear is have the gearing correctly. You can also make a nice smokey burnout with that method. An example would be a stock Ferrari 458. You can launch it in 2nd gear just by holding the E-brake, revving the living snot out of it (or, full throttle), and just simply release the E-brake.
