Marmaduke, explained

Hah, excellent. Marmaduke is pretty terrible, but the author is like 82 so I'll cut him some slack.

"Marmaduke's habit of skulking about in the attic is not appreciated by his sleepy owners, who implore him to stop as he peers down at them through a small window they installed in their ceiling specifically for this strip."

Hilarious! :)

I'm sorry, but Kathy is the world's dumbest comic strip. Not only is it multi-panel, which means it allegedly takes more effort to draw each day, but in the 30-odd-year history of the comic, there have been exactly three plots:

1) The one where Kathy worries about getting fat, and then binges in the last panel.

2) The one where Kathy worries about buying expensive clothes, and then binges in the last panel. This one actually has two sub-variants of the opening panel: the one where she's worried about spending too much money, and the one where she's worried about attracting Mr. Right. So we'll give it credit for a 2A and 2B version.

3) The one where she complains about her parents/boss, and then acts precisely like them in the last panel.

I read Kathy about once a decade, just to make sure she's still recycling the same 3 plots - and she is. Kathy Gusewhite (or whatever her name is) should thank her lucky stars for every paycheck she's cashed after her very first one, because she sure as hell hasn't earned any of them since then.

Oh, and yeah, the commentary is much funnier than the actual Marmaduke comics themselves!

Signed!

I ALWAYS skip that one... for those exact reasons. Dick Tracy and Doonesbury also tend to bore me, but they are interesting sometimes and have good insights/plots. Cathy has no substance.

This reminds me of the scene with Randy Quaid in Freaked, where he proclaims that the Family Circus "is the same damn joke everytime, but it's still funny."

Marmaduke's a Big Dog. Big Dogs are funny, becuase the owner thinks the dog thinks it's a human. But it's not a human, it's a dog. The dog owner isn't human anymore, either, it's a freakin' sideshow idiot for saying such things aloud.

Sage's Link
Marmaduke is playing see-saw with some area children. As he is humongous, he is kicking the living **** out of them; unless they find a really fat kid for their team, Marmaduke is going to get another shutout.

Yeah, but not for obscene language. Anyway I'm going to resist my instinct to say bad things, and act mature like I have been since reregistering for the 5th time, and the 2nd that has posts.

You just ruined my joke. :irked:

You forgot the "Then/Now" plot, which compares the fat, binging Kathy of 1996 to the fat, binging Kathy of 2006, and the last panel is of her going "AAAAAAAACK!!!"

I see I'm overdue for my once-a-decade reading of Kathy, and she snuck a new plot twist in behind my back! M. Night Shamalayan, look out...

Whoa. This comic is truly horrible. But hey - I make the ADITLOJ comics, so everything sucks in comparison.

(Duh.)

I'd like to know the drugs necessary to be able to get through not only Marmaduke and Cathy, but also Rhymes With Orange, Mutts, and Luann.

Ahh Marmaduke.

This is my personal favorite Marmaduke strip.
