Veteran spy shooter Hans Lehmann has snagged photos of what looks to be an unusual Maserati test mule. According to his Hidden Image crew, this “breadvan”-like mule is actually a prototype of the new Maserati GT that will replace the company’s existing Coupe and Spider.
Caught testing around the Nürburgring, the car is reportedly being designed with a retractable steel roof, and will come with a Ferrari-developed V8 nestled between its wheelwells. The only discernable Maserati cues from this well-covered tester are the car’s general proportions and the wheels and grille opening.
Despite current appearances, expect a traditional Italian beauty when the production model rolls ‘round.

I love it, in a sarcastic way. The way you love your neighbours dimwitted dog. Looks like the Smart Roady, and has that old Europa arse on it as well...

:p

I know I'll be thought of as crazy, but I actually like the overall look of the car as it is now. Of course I'm aware that the large hump is just a very elaborate disguise, but I like it! Reminds me of a larger version of the old BMW M Coupe. I honestly hope it winds up looking that way.

I love the camoflauge...it's just great. Oh wait there's a car under there?

[begin rant]
I HATE "spy photos" that do not show the whole car. If it's camo'd then why bother? You can't tell JACK about the car other than the lights and wheels (and sometimes not even that!). Why bother...
[/end rant]

If it's using a Ferrari-sourced V8, then it was probably designed before the change. While the amount of camoflague serves to obscure the underside, the large rear wheels seem to indicate rear-wheel drive.

It might be another year or two before we see any Alfa-based designs.
