If you're a multi-millionaire who demands not just a little bit more, but all the luxury the world has to offer, Maybach's got just the thing for you – the new 62S.

Billed as the world's most powerful chauffeur-driven saloon, the 62S was unveiled at the Chinese motor show in Beijing this week. Following from the souped-up 57S, the 62 gets an uprated engine, and even more special trim – that 'S' stands for special, you see.

We struggle to understand how you can make an already bespoke machine even more special, but maybe we're just too poor to comprehend.

Behind the 62S's modified front end (it has a special radiator grille and different lights) lies a tweaked version of the AMG-tuned Mercedes 6.0-litre V12 with an extra 61bhp, making 604bhp in total. That means it'll hit 62mph in 5.2sec, which should be ample to allow James to drive you home in the flash of an eye, if he doesn't spare the horses.

Pity that, because then you won't get the chance to truly luxuriate in the back, with its special leather, wood, anthracite or carbonfibre trim. It also means passers-by won’t get to appreciate the 20-inch alloys and special single-tone black or silver paintjob.

If, like us, you have to ask the price, it obviously means you can't afford one: the 62S costs £341,585 on the road - £41,615 more than a standard Maybach 62.

I've never liked Maybachs and I doubt that this will boost their sales. Seriously, the styling is too bland. Not bold, not sexy, nor is it sleek. As much as I hate the Phamtom, I'd take that over the 62S.

I like cars with back doors twice as large as the front.

Let me guess, because you can get more points for hitting as many people, with a bigger door.

WTF has the styling got to do with it?

You've got to realise that it could be ugly as sin, handle like a German King Tiger Tank and produce enough C02 to make the ice caps disappear in 6 months. And guess what, they'd still sell.

That is provided, that the interior is on par with a luxury yacht and people don't have questions about they're sexual orientation or size of their penis thrown at them as soon as they step out of the car.

If they can make the interior even more luxurious then every businessman who can afford one will get one just to one up his colleagues. Who wants to be the only guy on the company board that still has a 62?

It's a UK thing. We open doors as we drive in a bid to send pedestrians flying.

Maybach aren't menat to be outrageously styled and attention grabbing. People buy either a Maybach or RR Phantom for the reason that it's the opposite of the other one.

People wanting anonymous luxury take the Maybach, people wanting people to think that they're monyed but cool enough to buy the RR over the Maybach, when in fact they're extremely dull people, who happen to be out of touch.
