I was doing some research regarding what might make a good car for the GT World Championship, and the general consensus is that the CLK GTR isn't up to the job. Which is a shame, as I've just won one, and was hoping I could put it to good use. So... is it any good for any other race or series, or should I just sell it and put the cash in to my Pescarolo fund?

Thanks,

Dave.

I didn't find any use for it. Tried it in the GT world champ with no success. So sell it and get some real racing car. Also it has a very strong tend to understeer. Bah.. :yuck:

I was thinking of selling it also. What race car would be good to buy that would be formidable in the GT World Champ.?

the CLK GTR is a very good car for the race..its all about trial and error with the understeer n how to correct it. i dun think u should sell it, i won the GT World with it n i got replays saved to prove it but i dun know how to upload it over here..or the hardware to use..

It is possible to win the GT world cup with the CLK-GTR, but it's by no means easy to do so. The only chance is to fully tune it and then get the settings right for each race and drive well. Keep the CLK-GTR for now, do the ElCapitan endurance in it for a definite win, then use the 88C-V you win from that to take on the GT World cup. Either that or keep re-winning the CLK-GTR and sell them all until you can afford the Pescarolo C60.

I'm sure that if you won that GT Championship with a CLK-GTR that the competition loaded probably wasn't as good/fast as when I won it with my Minolta. I doubt you can beat a R92C or Pescarolo with a CLK-GTR on most of the tracks, even if you don't make any mistakes. One other time I entered the tournament I didn't have the right items on my car so I backed out of the championship the competition was a whole lot less than when I entered again. It even had that Belgian car in it!

I know for a fact that people have beat cars mentioned with the CLK-GTR, I've won individual races with it but never a series because I can only drive it well enough on a couple of the tracks to win, I've beaten a C60, 88C-V and R92C at Tokyo, I can hammer them on that track, Hong Kong on the other hand, I get wasted every time with the CLK-GTR.

On Hong Kong I got wasted with my minolta as well, with slow cars I can hammer faster competition easily on that track, but with fast cars this track is immensely frustrating to me.

If you can't win it in the CLK GTR, it's because you aren't good enough to win the competition in that car, not because it's impossible.

I won the GTWC, 10/10, in the CLK-GTR.

It requires some tyre strategy, but it's not THAT hard, comparatively. Nevertheless, it's easier to win in a proper LMP or Group C car.

Famine, Forgot to congratulate you on that one mate,

Remember us mere driving mortals do not posess your apparant skills.

BTW, Long time No-See you still got the same Msn Address.

Thanks 👍

Well, I ended up keeping the first CLK GTR I won, but repeating the German Touring championship to win a few more that I sold for the Pescarolo. I used that to win the GT World Championship (only in B-spec though, I'm a wimp ;)). I'll need to go back and repeat a few races due to poor tyre choices - I ended up using mediums on the first two races, which was fine for Tokyo, but on the oval I ended up hitting the wall, and then was forced in as the tyres had reached breaking point :(.

Nope, the car that flipped at LeMans the the CLR, a different car to the CLK-GTR, Mercedes started GT1 racing with the CLK-GTR, they replaced that with the CLK-LM which was based on the GTR then the LM was replaced by the CLR which was an evolution of the car, different class, different rules, had problems drafting and going over hills at the same time.

aah ok, couse the one that went airborn was in '99 and and the CLK-GTR is a '98

.... got any pics of them both .. to show the difrence ?

Sure.
This is the CLK-GTR raced in 1997

Heres the CLK-LM, the CLK-GTR in GT4 is actially a CLK-LM not a CLK-GTR.

And the CLR, the one that flipped at LeMancs.

KEEP!

I use the Mercedes CLK LM often and love it! It's one of the nicest looking and driving cars in the game IMHO, when tuned properly. :D

Sell it, you'll like the Pesky better. Besides you can alsways go back and get the Merc again.

I sold my black beauties to buy an '03 Pesky and I don't regret it at all.

Dude i won the GT World Cup with the CLK gtr with 1 point to spare and it was the hardest cup in my gt4 life so far. recommended

Well the truth is I lost 3 or 4 races because I had set the brake balance too high and the the medium racing tyres always wore out too fast, about the second to last lap and so I was fighting to keep the car straight in the last lap and the 2nd and 3rd cars passed me in the last lap, which was quite frustrating after I had led every single lap before that.

I won the Nurburgring 24 Hour endurance with the CLK GTR and won the Forumla GT.

I then used the Forumla GT to win the GT World Championship.

But yeh, i took the pussies way out :)

Some awesome pics of the CLR flipping at Le Mans in practice:

And here's a video (cut annoyingly short) of the CLR flipping in the race:

Note that it is making its second backflip as the clip ends. It ended up completely over the fence. I assume it made another full rotation before it landed. You'll need to register at racing flix to download, but its worth it. Note that just about everything they say on that page is wrong.

I won the GTWP with the CLK-GTR too. Like everyone says just make sure you drop the Stage 4 turbo give the Oil Change and equip the proper tires and do a bit of tweaking to increase the tire's life and try to fix the understeer a bit and it will server you well. I won about half of the 10 races in the series. I had a hard time on a couple of courses though too. (damn Paris)
