Mid-Field Raceway Lap Times For 716 Cars!

Tested:

1:25.523 - 445 - Mercedes-Benz SL 500 (R230) '02
1:28.719 - 438 - Mercedes-Benz SL 500 (R129) '98

Both cars have the same power and torque, with the '02 weighing 40 kg more than the '98. The fact that the '02 is more than 3 seconds faster shows a significant increase in engineering quality and refinement. It's as quick as the Audi S4 '03.

Tested:

1:25.802 - 466 - Mercedes-Benz CLK 55 AMG '00
1:26.889 - 464 - Mercedes-Benz SL 600 (R129) '98
1:27.913 - 456 - Mercedes-Benz CL 600 '00

CLK 55 AMG is a beast. Compared with the SL's, it's as light as a feather. Somehow, the SL 500 '02 manages to beat it.

And the SL 600 '98 is 2 seconds quicker than the SL 500 '98, but still 1.3 seconds slower than the SL 500 '02.

SL500 has got the ABC electronic controlled suspension, which no other Merc had it till then, so it is natural to be so good in a track as it doesn't lean as much as it's weight should suggest.

@88GTA I totally agree. After testing the two SL AMG cars, I find that I'd rather drive the regular 600, even if it is a whole second slower than the 55 AMG.

Tested:

1:21.191 - 546 - Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG (R230) '04
1:22.233 - 509 - Mercedes-Benz SL 55 AMG (R230) '02

SL 65 AMG '04
6.0L
603 hp / 5,300 rpm
738 ft-lb / 2,500 rpm
2,028 kg

SL 55 AMG '02
5.4L
492 hp / 5,900 rpm
542 ft-lb / 2,500 rpm
1,955 kg

SL 600 '04
5.5L
492 hp / 5,000 rpm
590 ft-lb / 2,000 rpm
2,025 kg

I do have to say.. in the 90's Merc's, does anyone feel a little bit like a gangster? They just give off that vibe for me.

They definitely have that look about them.

1:28.605 - 411 - Nissan Silvia K's (S13) '91
1:30.622 - 392 - Nissan Silvia K's Dia Selection (S13) '90
1:32.737 - 413 - Chevrolet SSR '03
1:34.249 - 362 - Nissan Silvia Q's (S13) '91
1:45.619 - 312 - Nissan Cube EX (FF/CVT) '02

The SSR is the slowest 400+ PP car I've tested so far. I'd love to see how it does with the 5.7L engine, but we only get the weaksauce 5.3L version in GT6...

The Silvia K's '91 ties with the K's 93.

1:27.914 - 406 - Mazda RX-8 '03
1:28.350 - 408 - Mazda RX-8 Type E '03
1:33.202 - 375 - Mazda Familia Sedan Sport 20 '02

The 5-speed Mazda RX-8 '03 is exactly 3 seconds slower than the 6-speed manual RX-8 Type S.

RX-8 '03
207 hp / 7,000 rpm
164 ft-lb / 5,000 rpm
1,310 kg

RX-8 Type-S '07
248 hp / 8,500 rpm
162 ft-lb / 6,000 rpm
1,310 kg

The RX-8 Type E is the 4-speed automatic. It weighs 1,330 kg and is 4 tenths of a second slower than the RX-8 '03.

And that's 500 cars, folks! :crazy::crazy::crazy::crazy::crazy::crazy::crazy:

@Polsixe Would you fancy making one last chart in Excel for me? I am most likely not adding any more cars to this list, at least for a little while. I might go and convert all the lap times to seconds rather than minutes during the week.

The next track will be...

Suzuka Circuit 2014!

............................in GT7
Awww....Really?! You're all done with GT6 lap time comparisons? I have no right to complain. You've done an incredible job. I love looking at your data. However, I can imagine how much work it is for you to do 500 cars on a track. Especially when you like to provide videos as well. Anyway, I hope you change your mind. If you don't, I just want to say thank you once again for all the excellent information you have provided us. It has led to some lively debate among my friends and I.
