Motor City Tunes GT6

I find the biggest difference in online is the first couple of laps. There is less grip as the tires warm up.
I'm finding this to be true as well when racing offline (single player/time trial with grip set to real). It's more noticeable in cars that suffer from understeer. Been running laps and then all of a sudden Lap 7ish comes along and I'm pulling away from the ghost.
 
Just wanted to say thank you for posting your tunes and sharing your tuning knowledge!! I've been using both your '91 and '02 NSX setups, as well as your Evo VI tune for a couple of weeks now, and they're amazing!!! Your tuning guide was also very helpful. I used it to tweak your tunes slightly for various builds at different PP levels. I also tried your Evo VI tune on an Evo IV, and was really happy with the results.

Your cars are so balanced, responsive, and most of all, fun! I look forward to trying out a few more :)

Tuned for the Ayrton Senna Seasonal Event at Spa. You can go flat out in some unexpected areas of the track with this tune. Currently in the top 1,000 on the leader board with a 1:49.765 and I am a just above average driver.

The car is indeed 898PP/999HP stock. That being said, you should change the oil and add 16kg ballast at 10%, you'll be at the PP limit, but with 1049HP and a better weight/power ratio (.53 vs .54 before the oil change, smaller is better). Ballast seems to limit wheel spin, too.

This was suggested to me by @jontikis, in the Top 10 last I checked... with a controller!!
You should reach the top 1000 with this tip and a little gearbox adjustment. Will try your tune (with oil+ballast), I'm still 8s off jontikis with mine (before tip it was 11s).
 
Dumb question for you Hami... Have you ever strayed from your tune priorities list? I was tuning for the FITT challenge and did transmission, springs, then went to LSD. After the trans and springs, I was laying down some faster laps than stock. When I went to tune the accel sensitivity (to get drive wheels to spin at the same rate) the car picked up wicked understeer. I couldn't figure it out at first, but from what I can tell I had to re-adjust the rear springs to get it to behave again. Have you ever experienced something like that? I think it proves that your guide saying what needs to be tuned in what order needs to be put in bold print because for awhile I was chasing my tail not following that order.:bowdown:

I always start with LSD. From there it varies. Usually springs/dampers next, then all the fine tuning.
 
Usually I do the same (learned from your guide) but I had the dummy LSD settings on for the transmission and went on to the springs without fine tuning the LSD. I think I'm suffering from headupbackside-itis. I just couldn't believe how it destroyed the tune and spending a half hour trying to figure it out.👍

This car has massive entry oversteer and lift off oversteer. You can barely turn the week on corner entry. In chase view I can see lots of body roll. The front dives under braking and the inside rear lifts a lot at turn in. The first priority is to control this rapid body movement and to improve the loose condition at corner entry and mid corner.

Changes:
- LSD Decel to 20 for more controlled entry
- Front springs to 6.50 for less weight transfer to the front under braking and at corner entry
- Damper compression to 4/3 to slow down front dive condition
- Damper extension to 4/6 to slow down the rear raising condition under braking and entry

I thought that this car would be really tough to tame, but with just these few changes, it became a much more fun car to drive. Mid-corner weight transfer is still an issue, followed by a slight loos condition on corner entry.

Changes:
- Rear springs to 8.00
- Damper compression to 4/2 to encourage the rear to load more during mid corner weight transfer
- Damper extension to 4/7 to further slow down the rear raising condition under braking and entry
- ARB to 3/2 for added mid-corner stability
- Toe to 0.0/0.10 to add rear stability
- LSD Decel to 25 for more controlled entry
- Brake balance to 5/4 (for comfort soft tires)

That was a lot of changes at once, but with just ten laps with this car and two big adjustments, this car is much improved. It is turning into a fun little ride. The car still needs help to overcome the mid-corner oversteer issue. I have to calm down the nose of the car a bit.

Changes:
- Ride height to 92/95
- Front camber to 0/5
- Front toe to +0.05
- Ballast to 35 @ -35

More stable, but slower lap times. It is going in the right direction, but is also hurting corner exit a little bit.

Changes:
- Camber back to 0/0
- Ballast to 35 @ -50 weight distribution 42:58

The car is pretty good, but could use more ballast. That adjustment really did help. Need to also address the slight exit understeer that has developed.

Changes:
- Added weight reduction stage 1
- Ballast to 155 @ -30 weight distribution 45:55
- LSD decel to 28 for more controlled corner entry
- Damper extension to 5/7 to hold the nose down longer on exit, less understeer

Now this car handles much more gracefully. Each corner feels like one connected effort. Smooth. There is still a hint of understeer from mid-corner through exit.

Changes:
- Front springs to 6.25 a little softer for more front grip
- Toe to -0.05 to help gain more grip on exit

What a joy to drive now. It does this cool lift off controlled rear slide right down to the corner apex. There is only fine tuning left to do to this car. It is very solid in this state.

This car is pretty good with my default settings applied. I think that PD spends more time programming the Japanese touring cars. I could see myself working in their programming department and looking for any excuse to spend more time with these cars. I got gold in the seasonal event pretty easily with my default settings. I do hear some rear wheel spin on throttle through corner exit. I cannot pinpoint which tire is doing it.

Change: Sport Hard Tires. Yep, confirmed, outside wheel spin. Change back to Racing Hard Tires and a LSD adjustment then run a bunch of laps.

LSD 12/10/10 This change was a definite improvement. I still hear a very small amount of wheel spin if I am not smooth on the throttle.

Camber to 0/0. I noticed that many of the top time trial tunes @praiano63 and @Weider were using 0/0. I picked up almost two seconds with this change.

At this point I have a pretty fun car to drive. The car needs a little help getting down to the apex on high speed entry. It could also use a touch of stability on exit.

Change LSD to 13/10/7. Higher initial for more stability on exit. Lower decel for more aggressive entry.

Still needs more corner entry to get down to the apex.

Changes:
- Springs to 15.00/16.50
- DC to 3/4
- DE to 5/5
- LSD to 14/10/5. Higher initial for more stability on exit. Lower decel for more aggressive entry.

- DE to 7/5. Better front end exit grip.
- Downforce to 400/575. Settled the car down a little on corner exit. I can really lay into the throttle now on exit. Lap time 1:19.074.
- BB 6/7. Improved braking zone with shorter stopping distance.
- LSD to 10/9/5. This cured most of the wheel spin on exit. Lap time 1:18.694 and top 1,000 right now.
- Downforce to 400/600. The car is now smooth all the way through the corner. It is becoming a very consistent car. My only complaint is that the car get a little unsettled over bumps. Maybe ride height is too low?
- RH to 65/60. A more forgiving car with the same lap time. I would call that a win.
- RH to 64/58. What a great car. I am out of time for the night and the car is working very well for me.

The car is getting really fast now but could use more entry and more exit steering.

Change DE to 7/4. This did not improve the car. Change back to 6/5.

Changes:
- ARB 2/3
- DE 6/5

Good. Slight improvement.

Change down-force to max front 400/550. Big improvement. Lap time down to 1:19.243.

Time to fine tune:
- BB 6/6. Improved braking zone with shorter stopping distance.
- Toe -0.12/0.00. No noticeable difference.
- DE to 7/5. Better front end exit grip.
- Downforce to 400/575. Settled the car down a little on corner exit. I can really lay into the throttle now on exit. Lap time 1:19.074.
- BB 6/7. Improved braking zone with shorter stopping distance.
- LSD to 10/9/5. This cured most of the wheel spin on exit. Lap time 1:18.694 and top 1,000 right now.
- Downforce to 400/600. The car is now smooth all the way through the corner. It is becoming a very consistent car. My only complaint is that the car get a little unsettled over bumps. Maybe ride height is too low?
- RH to 65/60. A more forgiving car with the same lap time. I would call that a win.
- RH to 64/58. What a great car. I am out of time for the night and the car is working very well for me.

I was looking for a good 450 PP tune and had a Scion FR-S, so I threw your Toyota 86 GT tune onto it. (Had to tweak it a little to get it to 450 PP, since I think they must've changed the way it's calculated since you made your tune.) Dropped my lap time on Trial Mountain by 2.5 seconds! And, of course, the car "feels" better, too. Great tune! Thanks!

I loved your GT5 tune of the 430 Scuderia—it became one of my favorite cars to drive. I've been tweaking the car myself using your guide for direction and it's quite improved. I know you're probably sick of questions like this, but any chance you had plans of doing a GT6 tune of it?

Oh, no need to put it on there if it wasn't already. I was just curious if it was on your list. :)

Out of curiosity—how well do you find your tunes work when you change the PP of the car? For instance, if you tune a car for 600 PP and then change it to 550 PP, do you find you have to change the tune significantly?

I just posted that to my Facebook last night. One of my competitors said, "In the UK Spec Miata is still gentlemanly racing where you move a mirror with your hand. In the U.S. series, we just move the mirror with whatever part of the car is most convenient."

That was such a cool move. I wish I had the balls to pull off that move. Too funny.

By the way, love the obnoxiously bright green helmet.

It never fails to surprise me the presences of mind people have when hurtling around a track. You'll understand why I thought of you when I saw it. Guess I better go and start GT6 up and find myself an MX5 to chuck around :mischievous:

This, my friends, is the difference between motorSPORT & motor RACING.
I'll bet serious money that these two had a serious giggle over a few beers after the race with promises of revenge either served, as we saw, or owed for a future race :lol:
 
I am working on publishing some video of a few near misses that I have had.
You should certainly do that. I enjoy watching racing immensely, particularly the close quarters ugly stuff. I'm not all that into open wheel racing (F1/Indy), whilst I appreciate them as apex events within motor racing, I like the blue-collar stuff. I just caught up with the British Touring Cars yesterday, the first race was carnage and hugely enjoyable :mischievous:

Tuned for the FGT Seasonal Event at Silverstone. Staying on the brakes late into the corner will cause nasty oversteer as you lift off the brakes. Try braking a little earlier and just use the brakes to scrub some speed, not to stop the car. Also, if you are struggling with wheel spin or using a DS3, I recommend using TCS1 until you learn better throttle control.

Good, fast car, but still funky getting off the brakes. So, I ran some laps without using much brake and my lap time dropped significantly. BB to 4/4 and using the brakes only to drag some speed out of the car. Braking a little earlier and with less force. Being really smooth releasing the brake pedal.
