Hello all, and welcome to the NGU (Never Give Up) Garage for Gran Turismo 6. The idea behind this garage is simple, to give helpful and friendly advice along with providing guides/walkthroughs and yes tunes of some of your favorite cars, but that will be a little far off into the future. Anyone who remembers my spec sheets from GT5, I like to have all my facts before posting tunes.

About Me

I love racing! Growing up in Illinois & Indiana, racing was all around me and a huge part of my life. I got started at an early age riding and racing dirt bikes, at 3 years old I was put on a Yamaha 50cc with a balance bar, hugely due to my father being involved with endurance and cross country motorcycle events. Ever since then, if it could move, I would find a way to race it. I was even a member or the Fighting Illini Roller Skating Team (Yes, roller skating for those who can remember the 80’s!)

I’m a Design Engineer of RVs by trade, and my career has enabled me to design these for many companies all over the world. I’m currently involved with a project in China, which is paying the bills, but as you can imagine, it has greatly reduced my GT6 play time. I will try my best to stay as up to date with this thread as much as possible.

I’ve only been a member of GTPlanet since January of 2013, but this is, arguably, the greatest site for Gran Turismo. I’ve met some amazing people on here who have not only provided great tunes, but also advice that has helped me progress as a racer. As well as being given opportunities to participate in certain tuning events and challenges. Like I said, there are some great people in the GTPlanet community and I will be posting links to most of these members’ garages, events, or tuning knowledge. If you find a thread or link that pertains to any of the subjects that are discussed, please by all means add it, and maybe some intelligent opinions…I usually try to get the thread owners’ permission before posting. Let’s face it, with GT6 being new and all, there are loads to figure out so we could all do with the most resources we can get our little grubby hands on.

As the picture states, most of my tunes will be shown using a "Nintendo" setup. Yes, were talking dpads, x-throttle, and automatic transmission! So chances are, if I can do it....99.9% of anyone who starts up the game can do it.

So, with all of that being said, let’s get this garage started. I hope this is beneficial to those who need it and happy racing! Enjoy!

Let’s Get Started!

One of the first things you are required to do in GT6 is a practice lap, it probably wouldn’t be so bad if not for the advice pop ups that can really break your rythym.

After the lap, it’s off to buy your first car.

Regardless of what version of GT6 you have (My wife is too good to me and got me the Anniversary edition) you are forced to buy the Honda FIT RS ’10. More than likely, you will be using this car to progress through the first couple of races in the game, so be good to it, and give it an oil change! After this you are able to access almost everything on the main screen….EXCEPT the locked objects, c’mon you knew they would have those!

The first place to head off to…after checking out the thousands of cars in the dealership and seeing if some of your favorites are in there or perhaps what new cars there are, is the Novice folder…let the racing journey begin…

Tunes

General Tunes
These tunes are generic and might need some adjusting based on the track/driver/setup.
I usually tune at Grand Valley Speedway, Apricot Hill Raceway, or Mount Panorama Motor Racing Circuit. The tune will specify what settings/setup I use and what track it was primarily tuned on.

Toyota 86GT '12 (450pp)

Base Tunes
These tunes are not finalized. They are, however, a good base for most drivers as the Transmission, LSD, Ride Height, & Spring Rate are optimised for my button mashing driving style. Dampers, ARBs, & Brake Balance are stock settings with the Camber/TOE set at 0. Testers feel free to post how you have altered the tune to make it work for you.

Ford Mustang Boss 302 '13 (500pp/SH-Base Tune)

Chevrolet Camaro SS '10 (500pp/SH-Base Tune)

SRT Challenger SRT '08 (500pp/SH-Base Tune)

Contest Tunes
These tunes were made for tuning or racing events. Most of the time they are very track specific and might not work for you on other tracks. A link to the event will be posted with the tune.

300 Cones
Car Used: Mazda Roadster RS (NC) '07
Special Mentions:
ASM: Forced OFF
SRF: Forced ON

Time Goals:
Gold: 21.000
Silver: 30.000
Bronze: 45.000

Tip: 300 cones to knock down under 21 seconds in a closed arena?!?! Sounds like just an excuse to get the back end kicking out. Drive straight ahead making your little Roadster as wide as possible. Try hitting the barriers at the end while turning right to send the barriers flying into all of the cones located behind them. After completing your U-turn, aim for the maximum amount of cones while trying to keep your wheel straight to build up some speed. Wipe out as many cones at the end as you can...usually helps to use a little hand brake.

Car: MiTo 1.4 T Sport ‘09

Target Times:
Gold: 33.000
Silver: 34.000
Bronze: 35.000

Tip: At the 900m mark, slam on the brakes. This was pretty easy using trial and error. I didn’t need to use the e-brake or mess with the in-race brake settings.

Laps: Section
B-2.jpg

Car: DEMIO Sport ‘10

Target Times:
Gold: 20.500
Silver: 21.000
Bronze: 23.000

Tip: A simple acceleration and slight left turn. No brakes needed, just a nice smooth line around the inside of the turn with very little steering input. I switched over to the analog stick to help give me a smoother line than what I would get with the dpads.

B-3

High Speed Cornering

B-3.jpg

Car: Megane R.S. ‘08

Target Times:
Gold: 15.800
Silver: 16.800
Bronze: 20.000

Tip: No need for brakes. With the proper turn in angle, you should only have to let off the gas for a split second to allow the car to settle.

B-4

Tackling an S-Bend

Laps: Section
B-4.jpg

Car: Focus ST ‘13

Target Times:

Gold: 15.800
Silver: 16.500
Bronze: 19.000

Tip: No need for brakes. Letting off the gas, being as smooth as possible, through the first 1/3 of the initial left turn allows the car to settle long enough for you to switch over to the right hand turn. If done properly you will find yourself exiting with a lot of speed and getting awfully close to the cones coming out of the last turn.

B-5

Negotiating an Inner City Track

London
Laps: Section

B-5.jpg

Car: RCZ ‘10

Target Times:
Gold: 20.500
Silver: 21.500
Bronze: 25.000

Tip: Get as close to the inside of the first left turn as you dare to. This will get you in a straight line sooner in order to tap the brakes slightly for the approaching right hander. Try not to clip too much of the curb on the right hander, this will upset the car causing it to become tight and not allow you to stop from running into the wall. Coming out of the turn, be mindful of the few barriers that stick out on the left, it seems that with this test, the wind hitting the wall coming off your car seems to be enough grounds for a disqualification. You should be carrying some speed, be sure to judge your turn in point for the last turn, once again, barriers on the exit tend to stick out to grab you.

Car: Mustang BOSS 302 '13

Target Times:
Gold: 17.800
Silver: 19.000
Bronze: 22.000

Tip: Begin braking around the 100M sign. A late turn in will help set up corner exit. Be gentle on the gas as to not get the rear end kicking out causing you to either lose acceleration or end up in the kitty litter.

Car: Elise '11

Target Times:
Gold: 14.500
Silver: 15.200
Bronze: 18.000

Tip: Stay left as you come up the hill, braking between the overpass and the rumble strip. This car can handle a late and hard turn in, but be careful on acceleration and try not to light up the rear tires.

Car: Civic Type R '08

Tip: Classic long U-Bend apex points (Outside-Inside-Outside-Inside-Outside). Try keeping the car in a nice smooth arc throughout the entire turn using up as much of the track as possible.

A-4

Combined Corners 1

Laps: Section
A-4.jpg

Car: BRZ S '12

Target Times:

Gold: 16.800
Silver: 17.500
Bronze: 21.000

Tip: This test is all about the first turn. Braking, then turning in smoothly will allow you to easily hit the gas and nail the apex of the second part of the turn.

A-5

Taking to the Track at Night

Apricot Hill Raceway
Laps: Section

A-5.jpg

Car: Roadster Touring Car

Target Times:
Gold: 31.000
Silver: 32.000
Bronze: 35.000

Tip: Don't be intimidated with the variety of turns. With a little bit of practice and timing you will realize that you only need to apply braking on the 2nd turn. The rest of the turns can be taken at speed with proper turn in angles and throttle control, always allowing the car to settle just that little bit before hitting the gas. Careful of the turn in point on the 5th turn, its very tough to see your marks on this tricky uphill right hander.

Tip: The tip given in the game is to be patient and not pass on the chicanes...My advice is to haul the mail and you will be leading by the chicane!!!! Pass the first car on the left (for some reason they swing to the right side going down the straightaway). Then take the outside line on the hard U-shape turn, passing the second car during corner exit. If done properly, you will have plenty of speed coming up to the final car making the easy pass. Take the chicanes being careful not to let the back end of the car get away from you. In order to beat the time limitations, taking the last turn flawless is needed.

Tip: Draft down the long straightaway passing the Audi. Take the right (inside line) and out-brake the Ferrari, it's either the fact that it's old with terrible brakes from that era, or the more obvious, AI loves to hit the brakes early and hard. Don't overshoot the corner, the wall on corner exit can be deceiving. With the right speed, you will be passing the BMW before the next bend.

Tip: The AI GT-R gets a 3 second headstart...not a problem! You can easily catch up and make the pass, but that is when it gets interesting. After the pass, instead of the computer rolling over and becoming a spec in your rear view mirror; it keeps up with you....no matter your pace. Not only did it keep up with me, I took a few corners slower than I would have liked and the AI stuck its nose in on me. To me, that is how the AI cars should be, this was one of the funnest challenges that I can remember in quite some time and that was because it seemed like the computer had a personality of its own.

Tip: So, a gas guzzling race car, only 1 liter of fuel, you need to go 2.18 miles, and oh yeah, you only have 2 minutes! This was a nice little challenge because of it being different. Take off slowly being careful not to light up the tires. Get into 2nd gear and stay around 60mph throughout most of the event. As you come out of the left handed turn and start heading up the hill, gradually bring the car up in speed. Get into third gear (68-70mph is when it switched over for me using an automatic transmission). Keep this pace as you go up the hill. Once you reach the top, pick up more speed and keep your eyes locked on the fuel amount that is left. Once it hits .01L left (really good reaction time for that, I'll admit I got lucky hitting .01L), get off the gas and coast. Take the shortest lines through the small bends being smooth and not scrubbing off any speed. Continue to coast until the timer runs out.

Tip: Start by turning left and then turn right towards a small cluster of cones. Continue turning right (clockwise) in a circle while gradually turning wider and wider while gaining speed and aiming for cluster of cones along the way. If you were to look down from the top, it would look like a snail shell. You should never go more than a split second without having a cone or two flying off of your hood.
