-> Now this is the car that will caught everyone off-guard! This is my 3rd unicorn car in GT2.

^ This car is different compared to the long tail we all accustomed too.

-> For reference, this is the 1998 Long Tail Road Car that we see after GT2:

^ Take note! In GT2, BOTH '97 & '98 Road Car were featured in the game!!!

I like the long-tail version better, the race car version was more successful, and 'dat ass too.

Back that thing up!

The short tail would be a lovely addition. Didn't even know it existed despite me even having GT2

It was confirmed by some of the ex-engineers from TWR that this version doesn't exist anymore. Sadly because of this I highly doubt we'll get this version in, not like they can really use the assets from the GT2 model.

Sadly it was stripped down and the tub and other parts were used as spares for the '98 racing effort.

One of my favourite cars in GT2, it's so much better looking from side and rear than the 98 longtail car.

You mean the short tail race car? The road car is privately owned. Do you have a link about this?

No I mean the short tail road car.

I've posted the link in a previous R390 suggestion thread (I think for the 98 road car) but here it is anyway.

'Ok, the reply was faster than I expected - two were built, but one was stripped down and the tub used for a race car. Bear in mind that the project only got the go-ahead in early Dec '96 and the road car was homologated and three race cars designed, built and tested for Le Mans in June '97. Best job I've ever had.'

My username on there is F1GTRUeno and I asked the question about the red car on the previous page.

I know it says on the Wiki and in various other pages (copied from the wiki) that the 97 car is privately owned but the above is something I trust given the quantity of ex-racing engineers and such on that site. Have you got any proof that it's still around and privately owned? It'd be amazing if so.

Also don't ever trust that the quoted BHP figure is anything more than the 350bhp or so from GT2. Loads of places quote it at 500+ and the top speed at 235 but I don't think it was ever tested.

Unfortunately I have no evidence saying otherwise. First time I'm hearing that it doesn't exist in its original form anymore that's all. I also "knew" that it was sold privately prior to it ever showing up on the wiki. Of course, the Wikipedia page contradicts itself anyways by first saying the two road cars were both blue then going on to say the first one was red. I don't mind being proven wrong, good to learn things like this.

I really don't think it matters if the car still exists, honestly (though don't get me wrong: the ultimate fate of the car is interesting). PD recreated an irrelevant Isuzu concept car that burned to the ground from the late 80s using nothing but pictures and technical documents by the original designer. If they wanted to do the same with the insanely-popular-in-Japan mid-90s GT1 racer by their best buddies Nissan, I'm struggling to think that Nissan wouldn't go so far as to invent a time machine to allow them to do it.

Good and bad

Good to have clarity but bad that it is indeed no longer around.

I wonder if they still have the tub and drawings so you could remake it. Probably not after TWR folded but you never know.

Yes please. It seems odd that the short tail R390 was dropped from later installments, but they've kept the long tail.

They should have done the same with Mazda Furai after Top Gear accidentally burned the car during a test drive, PD could have just get the pictures of the car and other documents and make a premium furai but instead they keep the car standard, Turn 10 did this, the mazda furai was in Forza 4 with full interior.

-> What really boggles me up to this day, is in fact where is this specific car? Especially with the one with P835 GUD license plate?...

^ Since the late '90s, this red short-tail version wasn't seen in public since!!! Not even Nissan thenselves!

-> Plus, I've found out that the '97 short-tail has 350 hp! While the blue '98 long-tail version (the one thats in GT6 right now) has 550 hp! Oh well...

We cleared up it's whereabouts above. It doesn't exist anymore.

As for the BHP, I don't think it's ever been tested and the stats the are out there are all just guesswork.

^ Oh, I didn't read the earlier replies hard enough. Sorry.

-> This would be a minor hurdle in PD (and other developers in general) to re-create this ill-fated super car.
