Hello, GT Planet.

(PIT CREW)

The Pit crew. The people that help service your car so you can get back out and win the race. The people who can make or break your winning performance.

This topic is devoted to the unsung heroes (and heroines) of racing. So post a reply about any pit crew considerations.

(OTHER AI, SPECIAL CONSIDERATION)

In an endurance race, sometimes you want to change drivers so that you can take a breather before taking another stint on track. This would increase pit stop time, but adds an element of teamwork into GT4. If PD were to take in this idea, what would be good considerations?

Two topics, you can choose one or both to talk about in this topic. I'll begin.

(PIT CREW) I hope you can be able to pick out good pit crewmen (and women, if need be) a la Madden 200x. Now, I'm not talking about redshirting rookies into big leauge stars like in college football, but manage and pick your crew members. You can also customize your team colors for the pit crew (which goes back to the "GT4 Car Customization" topic). Your pit crew would be able to have certain strengths and weaknesses that must be trained in order to minimize errors or to enhance the team. If an error DOES happen, pit time will increase and you'll be cursing out your pit crew like your parents when you violate curfew.

(OTHER AI) Part of a good game is introducing a new concept that breaks one game from another. So why not have a choice of two or three AI partners, and their racing ability will be realistic. For example, if you're a great racer and know how to corner with the best of them, the AI partners may not have the same ability as you do, whether for better or worse. They may pit more often because they lack the endurance to stay in a race. I'm turning out to be a factory of ideas, but I'm trying.

Okay, any of you want to continue the topic?

Seeing that the "GT TV" feature will be included into GT4.

As for those who are unaware of this feature I shall explain....

You create your own racing team and watch them race....
Cant be quite bothered explaining it in more detail...

Yes maybe you there will be AI to drive for you....its a fair chance:)

Doubt the AI driving for you will happen - although it wouldn't be unique, as anyone familiar with the Grand Prix series would recall.

What could be cool would be registering two drivers before the start of an endurance race (say a friend brings over a memory card) and swapping over mid-race - but again, that most likely won't happen.

Although its not going to change anything, meaning the game is ready to be sold, Sony is just tweaking it, that would be a very cool adition. I am happy to say this about the AI at least. NO MORE BUMPER CARS! Unlike GT3, AI players will actually take into account your position on the track.

(PITCREW)

Ahhh the mighty pitcrew now I say that you should be able to pick your team colors and so on, you'll be a "newbie" to the race scene and you'll have a young fresh pitcrew they wont be slow but they deff wont be fast, as you win races and credits in GT you'll then have money to sign on new crew members from a free agent type system or exchange crew members with other teams ala computer teams or over the internet, You should also use your money to train your newbie pitcrew so they will become better, the more you pit the more hands on your pitcrew will have and the more experience they will have,it just adds a better feel of starting of as a newbie to the race scene rather than have the top of the line pitcrew right from the begining, very boring and unrealistic, dont forget to add the "fun factor" to this and thats the best way to go, Another thing rather than just choosing colors is choosing diffrent design uniforms for your pitcrew something to buy and be able to switch back and forth just like the rims in GT3 being able to use which ever anytime you want just something else to waste your money on, There could deff be endless possiblities to the pitcrew and many people will argue with that like if someone wants the best right from the begining well to me that isnt that much fun and it kills the feel of the game, but by having to train and release and sign on members will deff add that "human element" that PD wants to add to GT4 and the GT series itself. Another way to add the "human element" is to have your pitcrew tell you when to pit and hear them threw a head set (maybe useing the headset that came with SOCOM) or just hearing it threw your tv speakers are just fine, That would deff be a cool little feature to add in.

(A.I.)
Let me start off saying that I disagree from having the AI drive for you during an enduro race, the point of the game is for you to be driving and not the AI if you need a break just go the the pit stop and pause but I think PD should add a save game feature in Enduro races only haveing the option to do so when you pit just so this way the computer knows where you ended off at and not like duirng the race itself, knowing how fast you were going and whatever, I doubt this will ever happen in GT games but you never know, but to me if PD wants to let us have a break just add a save game option in it and thats it, but to me the point of an enduro race is run the race in whole and not save or whatever other wise why bother having them in the game right?

But I just think at this point PD is tweaking the game and fixing the bugs and whatever and not adding in new game play options, I hope they do add in something like what I explained for the pitcrew to be added but who knows, We proably wont get to see all this until GT5 on the PS3.

(Other Ideas for A.I.)

How about having someone wave the checkered flag at the end of the race just some little animation to make the race seam more like a race, like what I saw in the GT4P intro video...

In GT4P when you unlocked a car they had your crew members clapping and congradulating you, well how about when you win an enduro race or a series, have your character stand on the car or whatever and have your pitcrew and other people on your team congradulate you and hand you the trophy, again the drivers will be diffrent seeing how you'll be able to change teams colors and outfits.. and if you lose or come in second nothing will happen or have someone tell you "we'll get them next time"...

Another addition really more for the beging of a race or series is showing the track like in SSX where it shows a little video of the whole track just so you could become familiar with it real quick then after that it jumps right into the race, or have and announcer in the game that talks just in the beging not during the game....

Those are just a few ideas have came up with real quick, tell me what you guys think of them and what you think will make each race uniqe and diffrent from eachother......

That mode was dropped a long time ago, didn't make into the priorities list.

i think having people talking to your from the pits, via the headset wouldbe cool like instead of having the time you're ahead/behind they should tell you every lap and in rally a co-driver would be cool too. just my opinion

KY was working on it and talked about it in interviews so it was more than a rumour.

Yet again you impress me with your ideas. I guess if you want to build your own race team, here is a weird consideration.

THE RACE QUEENS

Sure, they won't help you win races, but they can make you feel better when you lose a race ;-) You talk about celebrations and stuff, why not have the race queen market you and your team? You can start with a young lady who will probably wear belly-showing tops and cute flip-flop sandals, and then you can get them the whole race queen look, like those cuties in the JGTC.

I mean, this is for celebration, and if championship races get a special introduction. Personally, if you want to make championships and endurances important, why not jazz things up a little? By the way, in speaking with endurances, I would love to see if you can save your game during an endurance like in "Le Mans 24 Hours" (just pit and then select "Save Game," then confirm).

If a pit member cannot make it, you can be able to have other people volunteer in servicing your car.

Race queens would add a nice touch to GT4  if I was 10 id be jumping for joy but since im not I dont really care about looking a pixlized women with barely nothing on  but it would deff add a unique touch.. To me celebrations are a must because it did get a little boring just seeing the trophy and how much you made like in GT3, it was simple but really didnt have a nice vibe to it, now if you have a trophy case and they made a trophy for each race series and enduro races then it would be cool, have a trophy case and being able to view each one in your garage and have all the info with it like when you won it (date wise) how many points you had etc.. and the more trophies you got you'd either unlock something or win something just to spice it up, sorry for going off topic from the A.I. but like you said John if you had a partner in the car to help you out and tell you when to pit or whatever would be cool, heres an idea....

(Driving license)

I heard that in GT4P theres an instructor who explains each test or whatever but why not have someone in the car with you and tell you nice turn or slow down here or speed up here, just during the practices then for the test he'll say nothing (or she'll say nothing) but for the beginners haveing the computer tell you where you messed up would be a help for people seeing where they actually screwed up so they could improve in that such as if I slowed down to much at a turn and took it too slow after the practice run the computer would explain like "you slowed doen to much here and you took the turn to slow, try slowing down less and going around it faster" that would add a better feel to the license test portion and really help out newcomers to the GT series..

I think a thing that would set people off with AI teams is that, if you received radio transmission that says "You drive great" or "my 5-year old daughter in her Barbie Power Wheels drives better than you". If GT4 came up with that, the game would be a little frustrating.

I think the thing with this AI idea is that you'll want these people to help you out and all. Only thing I don't want to see is GT4 come out with a story line. And in my view, a racing game like GT4 needs no story, because it's stimple. Win races, win championships, do it all over again. It sounds monotonous, but the GT series has this winning formula like the MegaMan series. In MegaMan, the gameplay was the same all the way out, and in the 15 or 16 years of the series and its other series, it still made for a fun series. Only minor innovations make sure that the MegaMan series was new and fresh, but consistent in concept.

Anyhow, that's one thing PD doesn't want to do with its award-winning racing series. I think if Gran Turismo 4 can concentrate more on the driver than just the cars, the game would give you a sense of actually feeling important in a racing game. Any more AI ideas?

Personally i dont like the idea of characters or people speaking to you. As the GT series is now, it doesnt matter where you're from, you still feel like the game is yours but if you had people speaking to you they would have to pick an accent (probably American...) and this would ruin the illusion.

Also they still cant really make a person look realistic in a computer game so i feel the idea of characters would also shatter the image of GT being the most realistic driving game on the planet.

Just a few thoughts...

They won't include charaters like RD did but maybe communication from the pit crew, say if the fuel consumption is in they would tell you when your low, or tell you what lap your on and how far ahead/behind the next car you are ect. That probably wont happen in GT4, but who knows for GT5.

The speech would annoy the crap out of me, especially when attempting to get all golds. You'd hear the same junk over and over.:banghead: It might be all right to have his guidance the first time around, or when watching the demo, but no more than that.

With the voices thing, you have to be careful. Follow my lead.

I can recall PS1 game "Jarrett and LaBonte Stock Car Racing." To me, this was a great international-caliber game "American-ized" so that the inexperienced (assuming we know ovals more than European sportscar racing) know what this game was about. SunToucher made a point about making a game suited to your nationality or something. Personally, this is my thing:

Japanese game, Japanese creators, Japanese person speaking English.

The thing about "J & L Stock Car Racing" is that the game is very decent, just suited more to lovers of touring car racing. But with the typical American mispronounciations (no offense), the game is a good one at the expense of... what's the word I'm looking for... I guess "translating" for the European touring car impaired. It could have been better if it was called "Steve Soper's World Touring Car." It would have been a much better title for such a great touring car game.

The point of this is that you want to make a game and then appeal it to ALL audiences, even if the player in question is not into a certain type of car. For example, a lover of Japanese GT cars may not care about an American car lover talking about nothing but Mustangs and Vipers. So if speech is used, it would have to be tailored to a special audience.

it would be interesting if you get text-only dialogue. You just hear a beep, a ding, or some kind of noise letting you know when your pit crew is trying to tell you something. As a gaming veteran, I seen several different concepts that may still be used here in 2004. So don't be surprised if the pit crew tells you nothing, but flashes a message on the screen telling you to pit or whatever.

Something I've always wanted and have gotten pissed at because i wasnt able to was to make mid-race adjustments to my car. I remember racing a TVR Cerbera Speed 12 and racing with the traction control on, and for one race, i decided to take it off. After one lap i regretted doing so, so i had to reboot all over again and put it back on.

Also, getting your oil fixed between races automaticaly or having the option to at the beginning of a race. The oil light would come on all the time during the Pro-League series races. Your losing precious horsepower without being able to do anything about it. I really, really hope these things get fixed.

Well when you start up the GT game and before you go racing just chenge your oil for the hell of it and you'll be fine and every few races just change them but I say in a series races like the 10 races there should be an option to wash your car and change the oil because thats stuff you should be able to do between those races and things that need to be done to prep your car for the next race, To me its great to add great improvements to a game but just adding little things like changing oil and washing the car between series races are a plus and should be simple to do.

Haveing people talking to you are ehh up in the air now that I think of it I proably wouldnt like it seeing how I hate it when people talk to me while im playing the game, but like I said if they had some talk in the license test area and told you after you took the test where you messed up and how you could improve would be cool for the beginners, because even though they want to make the game tough they also want younger people playing and people who never played a GT game before and what better way than have to computer tell you how you did, where you messed up on and how your could improve, but that should only be done during the license testing not in the "game" itself because even though we all know how to race and whatever it would be nice for a beginner to actually have "someone" tell them what they did wrong.

Besides haveing the animated crowds and pitcrews and what not, what other ways could we see the "human element" not just used on the track but what about in your garage or out of the racing period, like what other areas of the game could they implement this in?

Now there is a good Idea and one that would mimic real endurance races....

i used to think that having to drive around i your first car, (has to be a street car) and going to places to buy parts or get sponsers (i think sponsers would be great) or to register for races would be fun but the more i think of it the worse the idea gets (except for the sponsers)

Sponsers would be a great addition, with sponsers signing you on you then unlock certain races , and the sponser should give you money or a new car with there logo on the car or whatever, and if you have a great winning streak you'll then have more and more sponsers sponsering you and give you money for every few races you win, and if you start doing bad the sponser will then drop you, but to me by signing on sponsers and unlocking certain races would give the game some depth in my opinion, but instead of always waiting for sponsers to sign you on and to unlock races they should let you try and negotiate with diffrent sponsers instead of them coming to you let you go to them and work out a deal, would be nice to have manufacturer rivals such as if you sign on with chevy and they dont like dodge and you sign on with dodge then chevy will drop you just because dodge is there rival just say, or even part manufacturers will give you money or free upgrades, but to make things short it would add more excitment to the game off the track with people signing you and dropping you and unlocking special event just for that manufactuer or if youve been signed at some point by chevy and dodge and your currently on the dodge team you'll unlock a special race series thats dodge versus chevy and if you win obviously dodge will give you a new cars and some money, but if you lose they'll either drop you or you just win nothing.. I could go on and on but i think you guys catch my drift...

If like most if not all of you have raced Laguna Seca Endurance race and if your AI is like mine Mr CLK spins out almost evey time in the last corner. Which makes me think they really need to fix that and the fact that I've lapped him 6 times yet he still won't get out of my way. Thats why I would like to see the AI like in Toca Touring 2 its an old game but from what I can remember the AI was the best I've raced against they actually moved if hit and moved out of the way when you a lap ahead so you didn't have to fight your way by. I would like to see this the most in GT4.

If you could choose pit crew super man better be one of them! Cause he is super and he flyes!

EDIT:Ignore this.

You know, it kind of hurts me to say this, but I think the GT series has been more about the cars more than the driver piloting them. I think if GT4 kind of concentrates on the driver as much as the cars, then GT4 would give a racer a chance of being rewarded for his or her efforts. I mean, an 8-year old can pilot a Toyota GT-One or the fictional F/090-S to an outright victory. However, I don't think a GT racer acgtually admires just what he/she has done in the GT series.

Like I have NCAA Football 2004 from EA Sports. When I could knock off the Miami Hurricanes, USC Trojans, or hell... the Oklahoma Sooners, I would gain a sense of feeling important in the game. With the Gran Turismo series, what has importance is one's ability to pass license tests by combining skill with practical driving. I mean, you can't tell me that the license tests can be done even in your sleep. Winning those tests give you sense of importance even if it is the traditional 1000m Accelerate-and-Brake test. So in the sense of importance, that's why I came up with the AI idea of pit crews and more. You know, give your pit crew, whether in Hawaiian shirts and cargo shoes and fisherman sandals, or a full Nomex firesuit, the most of publicity and honor. If GT4 adds an RPG-style attitude without being a "Pro Race Driver" of sorts, then GT4 won't be the best in the GT series. It will be the best racing game EVER. Edging out even Pole Position.

Any more AI ideas?

This is off-topic, but we have so many imaginations and thoughts on how to make an already good game better. I am thankful to share my ideas with you all and then be able to comment on some of your ideas. I'm pleased to bring some of my knowledge of auto racing, other games, and even talk some here-and-there sports info.

So GT fans, GT4 will not disappoint. And with this AI on track and off, it will be a heck of a game to say the least. I hope you, your friends, your family, your girlfriend/boyfriend, wife/husband, cat/dog/iguana/elephant, whatever... I hope you'll enjoy this game as I enjoy talking about it.

And oh yes, if you have any more AI suggestions, go for it.

Are you leaving or something, or you just thinking people for there posts, becasue it sounds like your leaving or something  .... Otherwise thanks I will enjoy GT4 and I know it will turn out to be a great racer ..
