Discuss 200 point races in the One Make Races - Japan Events here

This thread is put together to help members to achieve the goal of reaching the maximum A-spec points obtainable in the One Make Races for Japan. Please feel free to contribute your findings too. 👍

If you would rather test your skills with stock cars then please visit hispeed ’s [thread=62070]Stock car race comparison/challenge[/thread].
There’s some good information to be found there too.

Rules
Obtain as many points as you can for each race and see if you can make it to 100.000 or max 111.813 or anything in between those two values. Race as cleanly as possible. We don’t frown on blocking, wallriding or corner cutting; that, unfortunately, is needed in some races. Devices other than your PS2/3, a wheel or controller, and a GT4 disc are not allowed.
These rules do not apply to hispeed's Stock Car Race Comparison/Challenge thread.

Is there something special about A-spec points.
Yes and no, you don’t get a prize for 100.000 points nor do you get anything when you reach the maximum of 111.813 points. What you do get is a 👍 from other ‘200 point A spec nutters’ :sly: and the satisfaction of reaching 100.000 points or more. You also have the honour of adding your ‘home screen’ in the [thread=66549]100.000 Club[/thread]

Is it difficult to reach maximum?
To get to 100.000 is an achievement in itself, it’s the remaining 11.813 that are the real challenge. It’s just another way of having fun (and frustration) with GT4.

To get A-spec points you need to complete the whole race yourself. Handing over to Bob will not earn you any A-spec points. To achieve the maximum available A-spec points you’ll sometimes have to resort to dirty tactics, use a ‘gem’ car and or wear out the engine on certain cars.
Not all races will yield 200 points. If you are going to join the ranks of A-spec nutters please remember that Missions (34 x 250 points) and Family Cup (1x 200 points) should not be forgotten. Arcade points do not count towards the 111.813 goal.

Feel free to discuss (on occasion dirty) tactics, cars used and what settings were applied within the Series listed below.
A lot of races are fairly straightforward. Some races can be quite a challenge and if you are new to this part of the game all I can say is ‘hang in there’, you will eventually succeed. :scared: ;)
The notorious Ram for instance is a well known 200 point gatherer. There are other cars that are good to use in several series and as you read through these threads you’ll find them mentioned. If you can’t find them there check out [thread=87608]General Discussion [/thread].

Things to consider when trying to go for max points.
Choice of lineup, added weight, tyre choice (on front set of wheels), power add ons and wing settings all have an impact on points.
More details can be found in Famine’s thread on this subject [thread=56502] Notes on Maximising A-Spec Points [/thread]

Wearing out your ride
It pays to run several (long) races with worn out cars. As you race you lose horsepower. Better to start a race with a car that wont do that anymore. Take hp loss out of the equation.
[post=2458971]List of cars[/post] and how to [post=2458971]wear[/post] out the car.

Tranny trick
If needed apply the following:
  1. Set the gears back to default.
  2. Set final all the way to the right (5.500 or so).
  3. After that move auto all the way to the right (e.g. 25) and then back to 1.
  4. Then adjust final to what you want (e.g. 3.200).
Do not touch the Auto slider again.

I would also suggest you start keeping records on your achievements NOW! It will pay huge dividends later on as you get closer to your goal. You’ll want to know where you have not yet reached max points. Having to trawl through 500+ races to find out is no fun!
Fizio has an Excel spreadsheet that’s available for download. Visit post #2 in [thread=87600]Beginner & Professional Events[/thread]

Wiki editors, feel free to use this information.
Good luck!

If you are contributing to this thread then mentioning the following details could very well help others.
Race Series, track name, Lineup used (list the cars 1-5) *

Mazda NR-A RX-8 Cup

Mazda RX-8 '03 for 200 points in all races against 3 Type S's, 1 Type E and 1 RX-8 '03.

Set up : N1/N3 tyres, Old Oil + 5200 miles, Tranny set to 5/6 depending on track, NOS.Racing Suspension and Racing Brakes, ASM 0/0, TCS set to 5. 193 bhp.

Make sure you qualify using increased bhp and using Sports tyres. This will get you first on the grid. Without qualifying it is almost impossible to win, for me anyway!

Strategies used :
Laguna Seca - Corner cutting where possible. Quite easy,
SS5 - Wallriding where possible.
Fuji Speedway - Cutting chicane going over grass. Easiest race!
El Kapitan - Again wallriding where possible.
Tsukuba - This is by far the hardest race. Get 1st place on the grid. For each corner you must take the inside line and block. If you go wide the Type S will sneak through and you wont catch it again. Had two attempts at this one!

Hope that helps.

Suzuki K Cup in the Suzuki Alto Lapin Turbo: can anyone tell me which lineup they raced against here for 200? - the best I have managed is 199 and that was after looking through a lot of lineups.

Used a lapin on n2 + 200Weight 6200mls Racesusp & Tranny at default setting.
I went through about 38 resets. PAL lineup 8 and 10 are 200 (but too fast for me). line 9 is 198 pts but these AI cars got me 200.

Works RSZ, Suz Sport ltd, Wagon sport '04, 2x cappucinos 91 and 95
Works RSZ, Wagon R 98, Suz Sport ltd, 2x cappucinos 91 and 95
and if Im not mistaken in that order. but lineups beyond 38 if meory serves me right.

Lineup 38 🤬 This is the worst part of 200 point races.

Especially on the classics.

Let me refine my answer a bit. In total I went through about 45 lineups. I didn't try all of them but quickly spotted backmarkers that I didn't want in there as they wouldn't generate 200 points. I did find I needed 2 'coffees' in there and the other 3-4 cars mentioned. As there are 3 races it was on avg 15 lineups per race. Still a pita but not 38 resets per race.

AMG.

Edit: Confirmation of K cars see https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=1781560&postcount=781

This Daihatsu Copen is really 🤬 me off!!! Well over 12,000 miles runnin in the redline and still only gettin' offered 164 points max, and that's with 4 detach. tops too. The info around here says 166 with only 3 detach. tops. I dunno what's going on but I'm getting iritated with it. Anyone remember their exact gear settings for wearing out the oil on this car? Thanks.

I went ahead and did these 3 races for 164 each, I'll get the remaining 6 points later I guess.

I did do the Copen races for 164 pts. each, but I will post that info when I get those last 6 pts., I can't find the paper on it right now anyways.

Here's another candidate for Race of the Red Emblem.
Nissan Skyline GT-R'89 with racing suspension, brakes, tranny etc. + NOS with either N3/N3 or SH/SH tyres depending on line up.
All races except New York done so far.
nige

Nissan Sivia Sisters Race.
For 200 points I used a 91 Silvia non turbo with 90,000 km, used oil.
Upgrades : Race Suspension, Race gearbox, level 3 clutch and flywheel, carbon drive shaft, chasis refresh & roll cage.
100 kg ballast and sport hard tires gave 200 points against a line up consisting of turbo Silvias with no slow cars and no 240. It was about line up 7 or 8.
I have tried this race with the early Silvia and never had enough pace or handling to get to the front, however with the 91 Sivia it was very easy.
Maybe it was the chasis refresh and roll cage/stiffening option that made all the difference.

Edit. Used NOS. set at 60.

Nissan Club Z Races.
I used a 280 Z with all non power upgrades fitted, hard sport front tires and medium sport rears and 16 kg ballast for 200 points at Lugana Seca, El Capitan and Grand valley. Nos was set to 45 /70 units.
Best I could do at Tokyo and New York in this car was 178 points. Just not enough speed to get into first place for a 200 point win.
I then switched over to the old Fairlady 2000 and added all the non power upgrades and Nos.
The difference with this car is the NOS tank goes to 100 units, which set at 60/100 gives you enough to get to the lead early on the long straights and you can then block and sparingly use the nos to just keep in front.

For the Vitz/Yaris manufacturers races...

I tried the Vitz/Yaris U Euro Sport Edition with N2s and had a devil of a time myself, mainly at Tsukuba and Autumn Ring.

Found it much easier with N3s and 100 pounds ballast.

Specifically:

Vitz/Yaris U Euro Sport Edition from used car lot, No oil change
N3 tires
Nitrous (set at 100)
100 pounds ballast
Racing suspension, Triple-plate clutch, Racing flywheel

Restart until you draw a lineup with 2 RS Turbos for a 200 pt race.

Daihatsu Copen Race at Driving Park Motorland...

This one was a tough one for me. Finally won for the maximum 166 pts on my 14th attempt.

Since it took me a while to find settings I liked, I figured I'd share them for anyone else who might find them useful.

Car setup

Active Top with 9000 miles
Old oil
Tires N1 front, N3 rear
Nitrous at 100
Brake Controller set at 1 front, 8 rear
Racing suspension (6.2/6.2/93/93/8/10/8/10/2.5/1.5/0/-4/4/7)
Full custom transmission (final drive 5.000, then auto 1)
Triple-plate clutch
Racing flywheel
ASM and TCS all set to 0
Full custom limited slip, default settings (10/40/20)
Weight ballast 200
F/R balance +25
Stiffness and chassis refresh both performed

Went through quite a few restarts to get a lineup with 3 Detachables and with an Active on the pole.

Then just drive your best and definitely use dirty tactics as needed. You'll be able to hold the nitrous button down from stop to finish without running out of juice, but you'll wish that you could turn it up above 100. :)

I'm impressed 👍
Will give those settings a go. Have you managed Autumn Ring with those too for 166 pts?

AMG.

Have you managed Autumn Ring with those too for 166 pts?

I did manage 166 at Autumn Ring Mini, but it happened before I dialed the car in for Motorland. I didn't note the setup for that race, but it didn't work very well at Motorland, which is why I ended up making a lot of changes to dial out as much of the understeer as I could. I wasn't about to give up the LSD or the rear N3 tires, both of which are helpful but they do contribute to understeer.

So the car ended up with a setup primarily motivated by the very tight, slow, Motorland course -- like the heavy rear brake bias, super stiff rear dampers and rear stabilizer bar, and big rear toe-out. Basically, anything to get the back end to rotate easier.

Based on your comment, I would normally go back and try that setup at Autumn Ring Mini, but after maxing out the Copen races, I sold the car. :embarrassed: It would take me a little while to acquire another 9000 mile Copen.

There are a few one make races that are a major PITA. I managed to win Tsukuba but Motorland and AR Mini 150pts only.

Shame you sold the car, putting 9000 mls on a Copen will take the better part of 24 hours at triple speed.:ouch:

Still, I'll give Motorland a try. 👍

AMG.

If you are having troubles wearing the daihatsu copen down to 56hp try my settings. After installing all removable power upgrades my garage screen shows the car has 111hp (56hp stock). I got the hp down after about 15000 kilometers (~9400 mls).

Gears: tranny trick, auto 1 and final set to 5.500

With this gearing the Bob should be running around the test track at 181-183 km/h and stays on the redline all the time. I hope the settings help. 👍

Those of us who have been struggling with this for a little while will be very grateful for this info:tup: 👍
. I can confirm it works a treat. Have managed 166 at Tsukuba and Autumn Ring Mini. Now just Motorland to go :scared:
Vash, cheers again,

Edit : Motorland beaten - Phew!!!!!!!

About the Copen...
Sorry for the late reply, I bought a new car this week so my mind was focused there... I saw the PM this morning..

All removable power upgrades... 111hp
Trany:
1st: 2.554
2nd: 1,743
3rd: 1,271
4th: 0,979
5th: 0,856
Final: 5,545
Auto:6

The car is running 185 - 187km/h in B-spec at Test Course at pace 5.
Redlining starts at 183km/h but my car has 15500km on the clock so the new one might go few km/h faster at top speed...

Still unable to get 56 hp out of the settings I was given. Maybe it's a difference in U.S. and other versions? I dunno. I'm trying Fizios' setup now, let the B-Spec driver take over for about 28 hours. Thanks Fizio for that.

Max points for all events have been achieved in both NTSC-US and PAL versions so it is not that. I have a PAL version and cannot get the Copens down far enough (although I have not tried the settings above) - very frustrating.

Well I could also post my setup to wear the engine of the Copen, but bttlefed already tried it and wasn't able to do it...

Well it worked for me (but I never had any problem wearing the engine of any car...)

And my setup is almost the same has Fazio's setup, the only difference is that I did't changed the gear ratios and was with the Auto-setup at 4 instead of 6. And used R5 tires, but that isn't that much imposrtant.

Also I need some help with the Suzuki Concept (Seattle and Tsukuba), I have 194 pts in both, but has you may guess that's because that's the max points with the GSX-R/4...

Welcome Han. Well... I think I'm done chasing these points. 206 to go, but if I can't get these last 6 from the Copen, I see no need to get 200 at Sarthe II. I tried yet ANOTHER setup posted, and it was a no-go. I ran that 🤬 up to 11,000 miles, and only got it down to 58 horsepower. I'm still so pissed off I could chew nails! :banghead: That's like 3 different oil-wear setups I've been given, and none has worked. I've got to be doing something wrong, somewere. But I just can't figure it out. Here's exactly the last setup I used. Maybe someone can see if I'm doing something wrong.

Brand spankin new Daihatsu Copen Active Top

driving aids set to 0 for ASM oversteer and understeer, and 0 for TCS
weight balance at 0 ballast, & 0 f/r balance

Of course I was running B-Spec at 3x's speed, on pace 5, driver was running 188 km/h max, maybe 189 every now and then. I don't think he got under 186 ever. The car started red-lining at 183 km/h if I recall correctly. I wouldn't think having the TCS & ASM set at 0 would make a difference in the oil wearing process. Should I have a spoiler on it, and have it set somewhere in particular? I have no clue. But, something is definately wrong here. I might try it one more time. So if anyone has any clue as to what I'm doing wrong, please tell me. I'm seriously to the point where I'm 'bout to just say "screw it", but at the same time, I'm SOOOOOO close to reaching the max, that I still want to finish it. But 6 little points are gonna shaft me. "End rant". So anyways, good luck to ya'll.

I had to buy a brand new Active Top because my first had done 16000 + miles and wouldn't lose that last 1 hp.
Then it worked. So here's what I used for redlining - Racing exhaust equipped, Computer equipped, Stage 3 Turbo,Racing Chip, Racing brakes, Brake Controller. Medium Sports tyres, Triple Clutch, Racing Flywheel, LSD - 10/40/5, Ballast set at 0 and balance at 0.
For the transmission I set it to default. Then used tranny trick by moving final drive all the way to the right. Then set auto to 1 . Then set final drive to 5.500. This gives the following gears :
1st - 2.654
2nd- 1.866
3rd - 1.385
4th - 1.082
5th - 0.890

Run as usual in b-spec, set to 5 as usual, and you should get it down to 57hp.

I do hope that helps you. Good luck 👍 👍

Thanks nige. I'll give it a go-round. I guess it could be the difference in the tires maybe? Or the LSD? I dunno. I was just a little angry when I found out it didn't work that last time. I'm going to finish these 206 remainding points no matter what. Thanks again and good luck to ya'll.

Bttlefed - Good luck with it. I managed it with those settings so you should have no problems. I suppose just be patient, difficult as it is knowing you are so close to the finishing line.
I have the same frustrations with the Hyundai Coupe series. It is literally doing my head in. For me , the worst racing in the whole game, excluding Roadster Endurance maybe!
Anyway, Good luck with it. You'll get there.
